Reading these, it seems like the teraflop barrier could be broken by a gaming machine two years from now. Crazy.

They don't quite say what you are suggesting in that article. BlueGene/L uses PowerPC processors as a basic building block, if you like, and that PowerPC architecture is also likely going to be used in all 3 next gen systems. But it won't be on anywhere near the same scale (16000 of them? hehehe)..that said, early predictions re. PS3 by some placed it in the 1 Teraflop ballpark. Who knows if that'll actually happen though..maybe Panajev and others can give us an updated opinion on where they think PS3 will land in terms of processor power.
