So I just had my extended family over for dinner, and lo and behold, my 5 and 7 year old cousins have themselves two shiny new PSP's. Being the Nintendo whore I am, my first thoughts were "OMG!!!11 WTF stupid Parents they're gonna break them or lose them or something, buy GB MICRO instead"
Then I was just sad that the abilities of these systems were being wasted, and my mind raced at the possibilities of all the pron and SNES roms I would put on such an item.
First of all, I knew something was up when the one game they had brought was Burnout Legends. This kid knows his stuff. I was, however, VERY surprised to hear my 7 year old cousin start explaining to me, in detail, the hidden web browser in Wipeout pure, and then proceed to extoll the virtues of the 2.0 to 1.5 downgrader in stunning detail and unsurpassed linguistic finesse for a person who was barely toilet trained at the beginning of this console generation.
This is amazing. So I guess kids aren't trading Pokemon in the school yard anymore, instead they're talking about the lastest workarounds for the forced PSP firmware updates.
It just sort of put into perspective alot of the things that we argue about here. These are toys. Videogames, I mean. I know PSP isn't intended for kids that age, but that's not stopping them.
