Teh Kiddies wit teh PSPs

So I just had my extended family over for dinner, and lo and behold, my 5 and 7 year old cousins have themselves two shiny new PSP's. Being the Nintendo whore I am, my first thoughts were "OMG!!!11 WTF stupid Parents they're gonna break them or lose them or something, buy GB MICRO instead"

Then I was just sad that the abilities of these systems were being wasted, and my mind raced at the possibilities of all the pron and SNES roms I would put on such an item.

First of all, I knew something was up when the one game they had brought was Burnout Legends. This kid knows his stuff. I was, however, VERY surprised to hear my 7 year old cousin start explaining to me, in detail, the hidden web browser in Wipeout pure, and then proceed to extoll the virtues of the 2.0 to 1.5 downgrader in stunning detail and unsurpassed linguistic finesse for a person who was barely toilet trained at the beginning of this console generation.

This is amazing. So I guess kids aren't trading Pokemon in the school yard anymore, instead they're talking about the lastest workarounds for the forced PSP firmware updates.

It just sort of put into perspective alot of the things that we argue about here. These are toys. Videogames, I mean. I know PSP isn't intended for kids that age, but that's not stopping them.

A $250 handheld machine in the hands of 5/7 year olds? That just doesn't sound right.

This is what surprised me the most obviously. But these kids knew their stuff. They were careful with the screens, but they kept holding on to the UMDs from the actual disk.

Oh, I should also probably mention that they're spoiled rotten and get anything they ask from their parents.

Heh, those 5/7 year olds probably won't break it as easily as a stupid teenager.

I sat behind some stupid teenager last week who was trying (without much success) to play Wipeout Pure. This was while riding Space Mountain. :lol I was hoping he'd drop the thing to see his reaction.

Yeah, the amount of knowledge these kids display are startling, all the homebrew, downgrading...WTF?! My 5-7 year old cousins sure as hell don't know what those words mean.

:lol Hardcore.

The GBA has sold a ridiculous number of units, but its software sales lead me to believe that Sony doesn't want this market.

Lacks disposable income, tendency to make device less accepted in the slick gadget community.

I make it look easy...

I saw a small child with a PSP a few weeks ago at the grocery store. He haid it hanging from his wrist with the white leather strap and the poor PSP was swinging around, occasionaly hitting shelves, unprotected, prone to scratches. I almost wanted to snatch it away from him and run so I could get the PSP to safety.

Isn't that from a PSP commercial? :lol

Did he later go to the supermarket and try to play Twisted Metal while riding inside of a shopping cart?

Damn, those are some smart kids. It's quite amazing to me that someone so young could be so informed about and fully understand that kind of stuff.

Age has nothing to do with it. I've seen all too many kids who are way more intelligent than babbling idiot teenagers.

that has nothing to do with smart. You'll know these kinda stuff if you look for it on the internet long enough.

I knew stuff about the internet no kid shoulda known in the early 90s (my dad helped set up a few local bbs boards and a local Compuserve acess back before the good ole' www, so naturally, I used it for what it was meant to do.........downloading games.)
