Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Announced - Two New Characters

Would it be too good to be true if the GH version of Tekken 5 had the upgrades the same way VF4Evo happened on PS2?
Yes, it would be too good to be true but there's always a glimmer of hope just as long as Japan atleast sees a PS2 port of T5: DR.

Here's a decent shot of Jin in the same outfit from that T6 video

He's already very detailed there. Just looking at the leap from T3 to TTT shows that the leap from this gen to next would be able to get to the level of the T6 vid.

Great news. I am sort of disappointed in 5.1, it didn't change enough to make it worthwhile. Toning down Fox and Bryan is ok but why is Kuma still weak?

Based on the name I'd say Ogre and Jun are the most likely to return. I think I'd actually like the new characters to be completely new though. Neither Ogre or Jun mean much to me and the new characters introduced to 5 were so awesome I'd like to see more like them.

only 20 or so days to go my friend. We will see who is right or wrong very soon...

I am putting my money on Virtua Fighter 5 style visuals.

WHAT? Why?

Looks great to me!

Isn't Lindberg weaker than next gen systems? So why wouldn't it be disappointing if all NAMCO could achieve is the quality of hardware that's not as powerful as the one they're working on?

Is that confirmed? I thought it was for X360!?

this update will not be on a new board.

people assumed vf5 was for the 360 because it didnt really look like next gen. (im serious)

WTF?! I just watched the vid, it looks pretty damn good!

the models were just semi higher poly VF4evo models.

as a huge VF fan i honestly thought it was a Port of vf4:ft to 360 with some new stages.

I'm super impressed that the home conversion was from stronger hardware for Tekken 5. Leave to it Namco to push PS2 harder and finding new ways.

The system 258 isn't that too big of a deal considering its nothing but a overclocked EE/GS. Just look at the hardware and you'll see for yourself.

Now if its was something like Chihiro where basically everything was slightly modded e.g. Chihiro supports more RAM and features a stand-alone proprietary sound chip with it own memory, then it would be something.

Funny how Criterion's 'renderware' are the only impressive games out of renderware tech, the same looks to be for "Black, but than again from what some seemed to say it probably barely resembles the 'renderware' others use anymore. They probably have to rip out a lot of stuff and rewrite things.

EDIT: Yeah, Criterion isn't eactly EA.

darkwatch is using renderware and its very impressibe on some stages

DOA4 is not representative of what next-gen fighters will look like. I fully expect Tekken6 to look like that E3 trailer. Why? Fight Night already looks the shit, and EA sucks my left nut. T6 will have 2-4 fighters on screen at a time. It will have a closed environment. If we're already getting crazy detail in that Webzen game, or DJ3, Fight Night, etc, then Namco better bring the goods. Lair showed nice muscle animations and water effects. This should be expected, it's the goddamn next-gen. I see no reason to shell out $400+ if we can't expect AT LEAST the level of detail from those E3 trailers. Maybe I'm setting my expectations high, but it's what I expect for my money. Again, DOA4 looks like shit compared to what I expect from the next-gen. Poor lighting, and not nearly enough shader effects. PEACE.

EDIT: And consider this. Each character should sport as many polygons as an entire scene from TTT. You're talking about 100k polygon meshes or so here. There's no real reason not to unless they can maintain the same level of detail with normal maps.

I think the following renderware titles are impresive!

Heros of the Pacific (looks better than Namco's Ace combat IV and V)

you disqualified yourself! heros of the pacific looks absolutly weak (even wekaer than secret weapons over normandy) and other renderware games like sonic superheros and cold winter dont look to hot too.

Wait. Tekken Tag 2 is a real game?! Are there any other shots? I had no idea.

That's good to hear, VF's have always been a generation leap over its previous version, and if that was VF5 then it'd be the first one that wasn't. I expect next gen games to not just look better than last gen, but to be a generation leap.
