Tekken Jam Vendetta!

The first trailer we saw before E3 looked great...haven't been following this game after e3 though

WHOA. There are people that still don't know what Urban Reign is? Shiiiit guys.

Heh. Screens do nothing for this game. New vid! Gimme.

Awesome! But is there any truth to the rumor that it uses horrible analog stick control scheme similar to Death By Degrees and Rise to Honor? That'd be the only reason I'd not consider getting this game.

I kinda think that having all these characters might ruin the experience. Instead of really tightening up the gameplay with 4 or so characters, the implementation of all of these characters may be messy because they don't have the time to fine tune and balance everything for all these characters.

Good lord I hope it isn't true. I wouldn't touch this game with a 10 foot pole if it was. Its the main reason I stayed away from Monster Hunter.

No.

It controls quite well.

this game is not only an awesome game, but itl be a great party game as well

a real wrestling game based on this engine would be a thing of beauty.

Well, I was buying this game anyways...but my decision has only been bolstered by the addition of great tasting Tekken characters! Could use some Diaper Heihachi, though.

Info:

Leading video games developer and publisher Namco Hometek Inc. announced today that "Urban ReignTM" will feature guest appearances by characters from the "TEKKEN®" series of fighting games. Marshall Law and Paul Phoenix will join "Urban Reign's" main protagonist Brad Hawk as he takes on a tough gang in back alleys, dive bars, parking lots and other urban battlegrounds. "Urban Reign" will be available for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system this September and is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.

Legendary fighters Marshall Law and Paul Phoenix put their pursuit of the King of Iron Fist title on hold to help Brad Hawk clean up the streets of Green Harbor in "Urban Reign." Marshall and Paul will be playable characters in the game's free and challenge modes, and also in the game's different multiplayer modes – complete with classic moves from the "TEKKEN" series.

urban reign doesnt use the dualstick control sheme? or do you say, it only controls with this sheme quite well?

currently i am playing rise to honour and it sucks - the dualstick controls are a pain in the ass.

Completely dead genre to the mainstream.

no genre is dead when promoted correctly. This game has a chance to do well, and it was really fun at E3. Probably a mad house when you play 4 player.

You have a punch/kick button, jump, and grab/throw. Block/Counter, and commands for AI teammates. So yeah, double clotheslines are possible.

so this game is a 4 player fighting game (ala def jam) instead of a beat em up?

not disappointed... just hoping namco would jump into the beat em up world.

ah well... looks good

Played it at E3. No dual stick scheme.

Only weird thing was that I still don't know if I like the counter system. There is a counter button that can't be held (and no block button), but must be timed correctly when getting attacked. And since there was no whiff animation that I could remember, it seemed like the best thing to do was just ram on this button when standing next to the guy to counter him, which sucked

ok
i didn't give a shit about this game before, and never bothered to read up about it.

but now i do.
so what is this game exactly? is it a free roaming fighting game? do you just control one player and just run around and fight? how does multiplayer work? why do i kinda want to buy this game now when i had negative interest in this yesterday?

Both Namco and Capcom are releasing a beat em up, I just played a demo for one on the latest OPM demo disc and was unimpressed, forget which one it is tho.

I'm guessing you played Capcom's Beat Down: Fists of Vengeance.

Urban Reign is a beat em up. the face buttons (on the E3 demo) were run, punch/kick, throw, and block/counter. You can lock onto targets, or not. Anyway, the demo assigned missions for your character to carry out. You appear in the stage and for the most part, kick some ass. You can do running strikes and running throws (one move was a running frankensteiner). You can catch some weapons if timed correctly, and use them to kill your opponent.

I would think there is 2-player co-op, but who knows for sure. There is the ability to direct your AI CPU character to attack, defend, assist, etc...

4 player is an arena mode that involves all combatants to fight to the death.

Anyway, this game was the shit at E3, the other "beat-em ups" from Capcom were shitty.

What's so weird about the control? The one attack button?

If I recall correctly, it was dash button, block button, attack button, tag team button.

It felt wrong and the fighting was pretty unexciting and slapdash. It didn't feel tight at all. Maybe this will change upon completion, but the game's been in development for four years, so I don't know how likely that will be.
