Tennis - General Discussion

I still regret not opening the AO thread with the tagline "2017 just like 2007"
I would've looked like a genius after Fedal and Williams finals.

There is no way you could have predicted that though. Don't beat yourself up over it.

I am still bitter that no one acknowledged my Wimbledon 2016 thread title. "Brexit at Wimbledon". I thought it was pretty smart lol But maybe not a lot of people are familiar with "Breakfast at Wimbledon"

I actually got that one. You got a sensible chuckle out of me. I did thought it was partly about Murray though.
I had the draft up with that tag line but someone else made the thread. It was a reference to the fact that the 90s kids are usless and the old gen. is still dominating but nobody could've seen that finals coming.

༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ FEDERER TAKE MY ENERGY ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

What an unbelievable season and comeback!!!

Federer hasn't won the AO, IW and Miami since 2006!!! Think about that

11 years!! He has defeated Nadal 4 times in a row. He beat him in all 3 of those tournaments, twice in the final

Just too good

Unreal. I don't want to say it was routine because the actual games were pretty contested but Nadal never had any sort of upper hand.

excited by federer getting a chance to turn around his slightly embarrassing (for obvs goat men's player) h2h with nadal

but maybe it'll swing back in clay season

he has the weapons to win wimbledon and us open with the quality of his backhand which is exciting too

Wow did he just confirm the French Open is his next tournament? It can help like with the Australian Open, but he's not even playing a warm up tournament.

This means he won't skip one of the north america ones. Smart man.

I thought he was going to give it a shot at Rome or MC which are the only ones he's missing.

A. A player’s number of ATP World Tour Masters 1000 commitment tournaments shall be reduced by one (1) tournament for reaching each of the following milestones:
1) 600 matches (as of 1 January of the commitment year);
2) 12 years of service;
3) 31 years of age (as of 1 January of the commitment year).
If all three (3) conditions are met then the player has a complete exemption from the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 player commitment.

B. A player who is eligible for a reduction of his ATP World Tour Masters 1000 commitment tournaments must be in good standing with the ATP in order to receive a reduction of required ATP World Tour Masters 1000 commitment tournaments.

he doesn't have to play any masters.

Surprised he isn't going to play any clay tourneys before the FO, not even a smaller one. Wonder if he'll change his mind.

I reckon he may well play Madrid if he feels his body is up for it at that point. However, based on how long Federer's managed to stay healthy, thanks in part due to being really good at scheduling, I don't think we should doubt any choice he makes.

Also, apparently he still wants to keep playing for at least a couple of more years. If he does indeed decide to only play Roland Garros, I think it would make clear that he's only continuing to play in order to win the big titles and because of his love for the game. World number 1 is not something that he probably cares about all that much anymore.

I'm pretty sure he will play one at least,the one farther from Garros maybe,which is Madrid and skip Rome...also for the fans.

I wonder if in another 5 years the kids who grew up Federer are going to come on the scene and we are going to have dozens of Fed-lites who emulate a lot of his strokes and the way he plays.

That could end up being pretty cool.

I have been watching pro tennis since the early 80s and I have never seen anyone with a game as beautiful as Federer. The way everyone young kid on the tour learned from Tiger it would be cool if the same thing happened in tennis.
