I'd say it's even more alive than a month after its launch.
People are everywhere, from low level zones to the major cities, I always see other players running around.
Fair enough. Incidentally, for my money, I think Final Fantasy 14 does a pretty good job with its art when it comes to female characters -- They can be sexy or cute but it tends not to be over the top. There are also stronger looking female choices as well. I think, by comparison, Tera goes too far. Everything is SO sexualized that it becomes hard to take it seriously (for me, anyway).
I tried it out when it first came out in NA, I stuck with it a little while but ultimately I had trouble hanging with it -- I like playing female characters in these games, and I just felt they were too overtly sexual/prostitute looking, and it just wasn't my thing. That -- And PVP seemed to be completely lacking.
Yeah, I know.
I was just dreaming.
I only reached level 40 the other day to unlock the Reaper. Haven't played the game since GTA V released. How is the new class Gunner, is there another level unlock for this one as well?

Interesting. This must be one of the only monthly sub MMOs left to actually be successful.

FFXIV look pretty to me and runs amazing but is quite boring to me at the same time.
The story is there but the travel distances can sometimes eat up all my time going back and forth for some quests.
Tera is nice for me since even though really linear, it makes use of all the areas pretty well and you end up seeing them while you're questing.
Just played a healthy few hours spread across some of my older characters (Lv53 Archer, Lv46 Sorceress, and Lv43 Warrior) as well as my newest, a Lv15 Gunner. I'm starting to remember why I dunked dozens of hours into this game back in the day. Despite the monotonous questing, I get addicted to the combat. There comes a point where I stop dwelling on how many enemies I have left to kill and start focusing on how I can make the most efficient use of my character's skills to quickly end fights, or re-configure my Glyphs to better optimize my DPS. I'm really glad they ditched the old Glyph system behind.
Yet the more I play, the more I wish the BAM nerf from a few years ago hadn't gone through. My absolute favourite times in this game were figuring out how to solo a BAM I've never fought before. It's led to some crazy moments, like getting one-shotted as a Lv22 Sorceress when I misjudged the jumping trajectory of a Naga Mercenary and it landed on me. I won't be forgetting that for a while. But man, taking on BAMs alone was such a rush. Nowadays, it just isn't the same. x_x
Funny you mention that I was considering reaper when I was trying to pick a class. Oh well I'll stick with gunner then. I'm loving the burst + movement. It actually feels too strong. Though I'm still hovering around level 15~20 so it's too early for me to say
I think Tera is not just third on MMO revenue but also third in overall online games with revenue. I like that the great art working for their bottom line because their art is so good that when they make new skins and outfits people are tempted to buy them.
You know, this game is beautiful. The art design is really, really good. I haven't played it since beta, but I've just been fucking around on it for the past two days and I'm actually enjoying it. Maybe I'll play it enough to see if this game has really good content!
Well the difference between EU and US is pretty huge. Installed the steam version yesterday and made a gunnar class it's freaking fun! But where can i find my latency? I always forgot that.
I think EU version runs just even worse than the US version as i experienced. Thank god i see paypal stuff in my account i will got elite status next month i need to invest more in this game the combat is alway awesome. Also is there a gaf guild on a PVE server?
Also are there any tweaks to be done for more improvement on graphics etc?
Just tried this for an hour or so. Game looks pretty amazing and the class I picked has awesome combat [longsword + dodge, forgot the name of the class but that combination is super interesting].
Not sure what I'm doing though, there's like zero setup or anything [does that even matter in an MMO? It kinda does for me]. Will keep playing for a bit to see where it goes.

Applying to the guild is just /gapply Believe right? Not 100% sure because I'm not sure it gives the guild name when doing so just says Casually Addicted and not sure if thats what it is

Played for another hour or so. I'm not sure this game is for me. The quests are literally "go 100 steps that way and kill five of these guys"; I'm getting kind of bored already.
Also, I am talking to a quest giver about some monsters destroying shit and she randomly says "let's make memories together" while jiggling her boobs, and I was like "ehh... sure?" I guess this is kind of TERA's "thing", but I'm not sure how I feel about all this.
I watched Lirik play Black Desert yesterday, perhaps that ruined me because that was some next level shit. Not just graphically, but also in terms of animations and just artstyle in general.

I think I tried that once in back in the day, tried playing a warrior (I think that's the dual wield one) and kinda got destroyed, didn't die but constantly lost too much HP and had to bandage after like 2 or 3 mobs, reading a bit latter on apparently warrior isn't exactly the first recommendation for beginners ^^

Archer is my favourite class, and it was also my first choice. You'll have to rely on good reactions and reflexes to avoid damage when soloing content, which I find it super thrilling. Archers have a lot of ways to pile on damage from a distance, and they get a fair amount of stunning/slowing traps and debuffs to keep enemies away. Evasive skills aren't too shabby either.
Naturally, you should make sure to avoid damage as much as you can. If you can manage that, you might find Archers pretty fun. I know I do. =D
Hrm.. I didn't realise that Gunners were restricted to female Castanic and High Elves. I had this vision of a Popori with the giant gun; would've been awesome.
Now begins the quest to figure out which of the two has the better armour.
155ms on US servers is not bad still very responsive. Also why is Enmasse so much better then the horrible gameforge in eu? I have the EU version but the launcher is still a fucking mess. At least on the US version i can play and to me it looks like they have done more the game then in the EU. I wonder why did they choose to do this?
To me it would be better if Enmasse was also established in EU just like Blizzard does for example 2 different studio's not working as the same from the one and other is staggering.

EME was created by BHS to handle TERA in the West as their co-developer. Then Ncsoft came and fucked up things with a lawsuit before the NA launch which threw everything out the window and ended up making EME just a publisher. There is a lot more behind this but it never materialized so its just history.
Creating a EU company would have been too complicated, so they licensed the game to Frogster who already was running other MMOs. They got bought and renamed to Gameforge.

This was my first MMO and I had the same impression once I made it out of the first area. I uninstalled and then after feedback here on the forum realized I was unfair and gave it another go. Put in about 3500 hours or something before I stopped playing voluntarily (bad addiction).
The game is about the dungeons, particularly the endgame ones. I'm not sure if anything compares to the game in this regard, they're just amazing.
To those who have it on Steam, what's the launcher like? Do I need to type in my password each time or does it become an automatic login since I opened from Steam?

Couldn't reinstall on Steam with the aforementioned method due to not enough hard drive space... damn SSDs, lol. So starting the download from 0.
Noticed that I had been gifted two gift boxes with two mounts, which is a nice gesture.
Is there any resource online that serves as a game manual/major reference point? So much stuff has changed. I try to use instance matching, and absolutely every single dungeon out there has been removed??? Weapons also seem to have new tiers. I don't understand anything. >_>
I mean no point looking for a real guide then at least until I hit like 50-60 anyway, dunno how long I'll play. I got up to BoL last night and did it with 5 dps and it was a hilarious easy roll (that no armor for 3 of us including me even dropped for lmao) so idk how dungeon difficulty is right now with the new classes kinda messing it up.
Also the 2x exp absolutely ruins it right now. At 25 I've now skipped 2 or 3 zones almost completely outside story quests, tho the one I'm about to go to is finally back on level again. Good thing I did them all on my previous characters 2 years ago. Just need to remember to google which hubs actually give the dungeon related quests as I get to them so I can make sure to do those chains even if I skip the rest of the zone.
On a side note these avatar weps kinda make every other weapon leveling up kind of useless don't they? Kind of a weird choice they decided to put them in.
Anyone knows how to help with my left analogue stick problem? I'm using the Wii U pro controller with the mayflash adapter and every button functions fine but the left analogue stick do not work even though the right sticks moves just fine. I can't seem to find the option function to make it work and using the search engine on the official site isn't helping.
So yeah. Downloaded this recently. I'm now at Level 31 with my Gunner, as per the recommendations in this thread and elsewhere. Random thoughts:
Getting kicked from character creation to the launcher, losing all progress. Why would this ever be a thing?
Also, sometimes it lets you go until the edit name part of the process and then ignore any names you put in, meaning you've already been disconnected for a while but it had been allowing you to continue to waste your time just because. Fuuuuck that.
Judging solely by the character creator: Would have preferred the Aman female. Even with an exposed midriff she at least still looks kinda menacing and battle worthy, as opposed to my elf, who I fear might snap in half at any minute, even without a mob helping in the process.
No boob slider, so now I'm playing some chick with impossible body proportions. In general there's surprisingly little you can actually do to sculpt your character aside from the facial stuff. Unless I've unknowingly somehow skipped past entire screens in fear of the disconnect timer.
Also, I know this is a sore issue, but dear god, Elins. Why. Whyyyy. By themselves they would simply be adorable, and by golly, there is nothing wrong with kids with animal ears, but a combination of F2P customer base, general internet idiocy and the rather minimalistic approach to female clothing in this game makes me quite uncomfortable around players with those characters. The global and local chat ain't helping one bit to dispel this air of creepiness. Yikes.
to summarise: why we can't have nice things, reason number 553763262819364.6
Back to my gunner. God, the way she grinds her weapon in the character selection screen is making me physically uncomfortable. What kind of idle animation is this. Is she drunk? Horny? Have her bones turned into jelly? Is she trying to dance? What is happening here?!?
Gunner is freaking fun, but feels a bit overpowered. I dispense death liberally both in single-monster bursts and AoE explosions, and thanks to some gems I'm so fast that no monster can ever hope to catch me. I also have a bot that heals the light scratches any mob can ever hope to give me. Seriously, I could probably face tank a couple of boss mobs right now thanks to my indomitable armour, huge level advantage and trusty healbot.
It might also be because I keep getting stuck building Avatar weapons because of my OCD-ish tendencies and enchantability. Visiting a new area and getting that accursed first artefact drop is always a bad omen. I feel like some sort of gun-grinding god in skintight golden booby armour.)
It's nice of them to give us XP at twice the normal going rate right now, but this makes you fly through the initial parts of the game at outright breakneck speed. The plot is nothing to write home about as usual in MMOs, but it's seriously lacking impact if you can splat big baddies in one or two hits because you're like five to ten levels too high.
The standard KBM setup makes you do some weird spider grip on the keyboard that I'm very unhappy with, but for some reason I'm at the same time too lazy to customise it or use my Gamepad - the support for the latter is a damn nice idea, by the way.
Fuck that bugged unreachable NPC in freedom square. Made me run around like an idiot for the better of half of an hour in this whole gray-ghost-infested town. I was sure there would be a sewer entrance.
Everything is an interconnected winding tunnel with the occasional warp gate loading screen so that the engine doesn't croak. Or at least it feels that way. I'm kinda missing the open world feeling, but it's nothing serious (unless we're talking about the way too prevalent and way too obvious zigzag "engine asset management tunnels" that occasionally rear their ugly heads).
The mini radar is almost useless, while the map overlay gets in the way. Really wish they had combined the two into one useful UI item.
Also, the map overlay updates at like 5 fps for no reason in particular. So odd.
Crafting has been a bit meh so far, but I only discovered the tutorial quest giver a good ten levels after I was supposed to find him I guess, so I'm flooded in materials and money and have far too awesome gear to make crafting anywhere near worth the wait. So that may be that. Will roll another character later to give this a properly sync'd up go.
All in all I'm having tons of fun. Roflstomping mobs, barely concealed boobies everywhere, the unquestioning adoration of NPCs - it all just blurs together in some sort of fast food style entertainment. You know if you seriously dedicate yourself to it you'll end up as a big ugly blob of fat and self loathing, but in short bursts it's fun and rewarding.
