I was just trying to show the visual leap over what they were capable of this gen. If they were capable of just VRally 3 this gen and other developers blew the door off it, just imagine what other developers are going to be capable of next gen if these guys are pulling off stuff like this Test Drive.

"How many car games do we need?"

As many as they can make as long as they're good.

not impressed.

Some of the shots show nice, controlled lighting (nothing too OTT), but the car models don't look that great, and the reflections look poor - I think the reflections highlight the lack of polys in the car panels.

I'd expect more from a next-gen car game. Not sure what, but I'll know it when I see it.

As I said in the other thread, this game looks great, but looks more like an original XBOX game than what I would have expected from next-gen.

I mean, come on, look at stuff like this...

...do any 360 games really look that much better?

PGR3 destroys both of those games.

I think "destroys" is a bit too strong, though...

Then again, I haven't seen any close-up shots. I was hoping for detail similar to that original render on the teaser site and maybe they will still deliver that.

Look better than PD0 (which ain't saying much) but it doesn't look that hot. Low poly BGs (for next gen) and per-vertex diffuse lighting. The hardware is certainly capable of much more.

watched the trailer/video and - meh - only in 30fps??? again, its dissappointing, the environments looks really dull and bad (did anyone see the shaby grass texture???) and the car models dont look better than the low poly cars from gt4. like all test drive games, this one will be ASS!

am I wrong in hoping that all the new shader power would be used for more than just making everything plastic and bumpy?

Like a texturemap that defines the reflectivity of a surface on a per-pixel basis, or other advanced stuff like they show you in pixar 'making of's?

A specular map? That's hardly advanced stuff.

the car models look good, good lighting effects for sure, some bad textures, forza gives these shots a run for its money tho.

This is the one image that I like believe it or not, as it gives you a much better feel of what the game is really like.

The car close-ups do nothing for me though, lots of weird blurring and lighting to make it seem like something it isn't.

Not bad, certainly not earth shattering though.

I wouldn't get too excited about replay shots. Racing games look much better in replay than they do in gameplay mode. Look at the ingame pics in this thread for proof. Dark10X also has a nice post comparing current hot Xbox games.

It looks good to me. It's definitely a step up. Although I'm sure it won't look as good in real time.

Doesn't look nearly as impressive in the IGN video as it does in these screens.
Not much of an improvement over current Xbox racers.

Looks next-gen allright. If this is what the launchtitles will look like, I can't wait for the next gen to begin. Looks like the jaggies will still be arround tho. In HD they will probably be a lot less aparent.

the best part about new generations is that people get excited over really old and bad ips that haven't been good since the apple IIgs.
