No it doesn't. It looks stupid as hell with half the remote hanging out like that. It also makes you wonder, if the sensor thingy works while in the standard pad, why the hell Nintendo didn't just design a more normal controller with crazy sensor stuff in the first place (well I know the whackarse logic that they used).

Whatever shell Nintendo do come up with lets hope it all fits together much nicer than that, and has a decent d-pad and standard button configuration.

And can we really expect new announcements, if the show's already started? Don't we get this every year, people don't get the announcements they want and then predict it'll happen on the Saturday or Sunday and it never does.

Sure but it is fake :)

"Nintendo has not yet released official imagery of what the controller shell might look like. However, we've created a mock-up (above) based on what we know of its functionality. The real controller shell is likely to connect to the free-hand-style pointer in a very similar fashion. Please note that we realize our model is not entirely to scale, but this is the best we could do on short notice."

Yes, according to Jim Merrick (NOE); all the sensors will work while in the shell.

The reason why they didn't put the tech from the rev controller into a standard controller is that the layout is too complex for a part of the market they are targeting with the Revolution. Therefore we have come to this situation where they have the new controller, but it can also be used in this shell to mimick the layout of conventional controllers in order to play BC games and possibly some ports (if they choose to use the shell rather than the standard controller).

edit/ the poster of the shell pic could have bothered to post the link to the article. some info about the shell.

The shell is designed to look and function like accepted "regular" controllers, such as the Wave Bird. After its bottom casing is removed, the Revolution's free-hand-style remote is inserted into a gap in the middle of the controller shell. Gamers can then use the shell as they would a traditional controller, with a notable difference: the pointer remote's sensory functionality remains active. As a result, gamers get the best of both worlds: more buttons and two analog sticks along with motion-sensing operations. In a Revolution version of Madden Football, gamers might be able to use the combo to control players with the shell's analog sticks and execute pinpoint passes with the pointer's improved accuracy.

Good Stuff. :)

But surely, so as not to piss off the gamer they'll have to package the shell with the remote anyway (and judging by the reaction they'd be committing suicide amongst gamers not doing this). Wouldn't that just confuse the non-gamer more, to have the controller essentially broken up.

Also this whole appealing to non-gamers thing, haven't they already started that with the DS? They didn't feel the need to make the DS not look like a convential handheld there. Which makes me think this whole Rev remote thing is just being different for the sake of it, being unveiled with the preemptive caveat of add-ons and conventional shells only seems to further support this.

The Revolution is Nintendo's admittance they can't hang with the big boys anymore. This is their answer to breaking off into something new. Which is fine. We'll see how it turns out. However, I expect the games to look a fair clip below PS3/X360 offerings.

We don't know. None of the journos have come back yet to post.

It seems a bit self-defeatist, especially in light of the amount of money Nintendo makes.

And it really does seem to be throwing the baby out with the bathwater, designing the controller as such. I still don't see why they can't make a standardised controller with the gyroscope stuff. I believe it would be entirely possible (and judging from the existance of the shell, so does Nintendo).

I don't know, it just seems like the last-gen or so when Nintendo get stuck on an idea their view gets blinkered on anything else. Their current obsession being that people look at a game controller and people run away in fear because it may have as many as 11 buttons, but people look at a remote and they feel safe and secure, it's like a warm fuzzy hug. You just have to think, has Nintendo ever seen a DVD remote or a modern mobile phone?

I posted about two things, the Rev controller mock-up and asking whether it is viable to expect anymore announcements. I only received a response to the former, so I have therefore only carried on posting about it.

So I'll ask again. Is it only MS who have more stuff or can we expect more from others, like SE or Sega?
