for giving me the ability to watch Naruto on the bus/train/toilet.

also Ive been lucky as it seems I have no dead pixels at all, but good god does this thing get smudged easily! finger marks everywhere :(

oh but one thing the anolog stick is to be honest... worthless. Dont like the placement or the feel or the movement in Ridge Racer for example. One let down but overall a good piece of kit. Sony have a real winner on their hands if they play it right. :)

get one of those clear plastic things to prevent smudges.

about the nub, I don't know what to say as I haven't played a PSP yet, but from what I hear, it seems to be a love it or hate it thing. You might want to practice or force yourself to get good with it, as I'm sure many games will force you to use the nub for direction control so the d-pad can be used for utility buttons (like GTA, most likely).

As far as the nub goes, I have three games: Lumines, Ridge Racers, and Dynasty Warriors. I obviously use the d-pad for lumines because it's a puzzle game, but I can't use it in Ridge Racers. I just use the d-pad in that. For Dynasty Warriors, I have gotten used to the nub and it works pretty well in that situation.

I really need to get one of those clear plastic things for my PSP, there are smudges all over the sides and little specs across the screen (no dead pixels though, woo!). Of course, you can't see anything on the screen when it's on, so it's not that bad, but still it'd be nice to keep it fairly clean.

Playing SNES level ports on a handheld while taking a dump= :)

Watching Starsky and Hutch in 16:9 widescreen on a handheld while taking a dump= :O :O :O :O

And that alone is why I plan on purchasing a PSP. Thank you, Sho Nuff.

Once you get used to it in RR, there's no going back. The game controls like a dream with analog nub, and much beter than with dpad.

First handheld?

Got nothing nice to say, eh? :p

I'm also happy to say that my PSP so far is defect free. I do agree that the nub is really awkward to use.

I just got a 512MB memory stick, and now I look forward to train rides and bus trip, just so that I can bring along my PSP and watch stuff. :D And it's also cool when you say to a friend "have you seen that clip/heard that song/seen that photo?" and they reply no, and then you just whip out your PSP and show them.

Are Sony planning on adding movie playback to the PSP so you can watch DIVX, XVID files ect? The work-around of putting stuff on it at the moment looks to be a bit too much work considering your going to be swapping / renaming stuff constantly due to the small size of memory cards.

Movie playback is in, although I think it's in MPEG4 format. I believe Sony has software designed to convert video for play on the PSP. As for storage, why do you think there are so many people on this forum wanting a 512MB or 1GB memory stick to put TV shows and movies on?

so do avi and other video files need to be converted to a specific file type, or can you just watch em as is right off the memory stick?

EDIT: nm, looks like the post above answers my question

It really isn't that much work. Looking at the video encoding thread can make it seem like it's really in depth and involves a lot more work than it really does. Getting movies onto the PSP is as simple as dragging & dropping a few times.

Exactly. d/l image converter, convert over the video (you can convert it directly into the PSP if you wish, saves a step). That's it. VERY easy to do and it doesn't take all that long...
