Thanks for the TIP GAF!

Got Phantom Brave SE for 20 bucks new at EB today, WOuldnt have known about the sale price but you guys saved my gaming trade in dollar. Also got Phantom dust today, once I get decent ill be on live.

Gonna save the rest o trade in for DW5.

I didn't like Phantom Brave much at all, though I really didn't give it much of a chance before moving on... :-/

Is something wrong with EB's? All the US prices are the same as the CAD prices, I bought 2 copies of Phantom Brave because they were going for 21.99$CAD sealed. I'm not complaining or anything but Disgaea is still $59.99 :( and I lost my copy

WOO!

Phantom Dust r0x!

Been playing for some hours and the game is just incredible and the repertoir of skills can be very overwhelming. I've put about 5 hours into it and haven't even touched the online mode.

Absolutely! I didn't even touch it today but everybody really needs to buy this game. It is that damn good and it is only 20 freaking bucks.

Which, to clarify, is Incredibly awesome > Very Awesome.

IAWTP.

There are only 2 problems which make it slightly less awesome than Disgaea:

1. While the story actually pretty good, the pacing is TERRIBLE and it takes forever for anything to happen. Should've been 1/2 as many chapters.

2. 100x more broken battle system than any previous N1 game. They basically tried to make the most open ended system ever between the 3d movement and weapon system which makes the game very fun and original but it's also hard to find any challenge from the main game battles since it's near impossible for the story to figure out about what strength your party should be at that point.

Almost finished with Phantom Kingdom (1 chapter left) and I'll pre-emptively say:

Phantom Kingdom >>> Disgaea >>> Phantom Brave >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>La Pucelle

What are your reasons for ranking La Pucelle so low?

Eh. Disgaea > Phantom Brave

Wtf

Stupid amir0x told me phantom brave was better.. Now I have to find out what I'm missing out on. What's better about it? The only gripe I have with PB is that it has the worst tutorials ever. I had logged about 30 hours in the game before I fully figured everything out.

Actually I still have a question.. What happens if I kill the plain whisp on phantom island?

I like Disgaea's story better, and item world is fuggin badical even if lots of people hated it. It being my first game from this developer its probably the one im most nostalgic for.

Having played both Phantom Brave and Disgaea, I think I prefer Metal Gear Acid over both of them.

Well to be fair I can't really rate La Pucelle as I still haven't finished it. Picked up the Japanese re-release version a few months back and put about 10-15 hours in and didn't really enjoy the gameplay. The cutting to side-view for action basically made it slow and chorish like Super Robot Wars (but at least in SRW you can turn them off!). Making huge miracles also took forever, the system was neat but I don't want to spend 15-20 mins on a map EVER in a N1 game. N1 games are about quick/fun battles. There also didn't seem to be a whole lot of systems/options on how you can develop your characters, and lastly I really didn't like the item leveling idea. It was a step back from PB's item leveling and I still have issues with it even in PB.

I did enjoy what I saw of the story and the music was nice, but it was just slow to the point where I found it not fun and this is coming from someone who enjoys slow SRPGs like Front Mission and MGA.

I think Phantom Brave is better, but it's perfectly legitimate to think Disgaea is better. Both have aspects that certain people like more. I, for one, think PB is slightly better balanced than Disgaea and the newly implemented gameplay aspects are appealing to me. On the other hand, Phantom Brave's story isn't interesting because it's somewhat more serious so it doesn't have the quirky charms that Disgaea does.

It's all about preference.

I really like MGA
I really like N1 games

But I don't think they're really comparable. 2 very different types of games within the broad description of SRPG.

Disgaea has the better dialouge, but IMO, the better gameplay in general goes to Phantom Brave. Just an opinion.
