So, we've all got some kind of story from Thanksgiving. Something embarrassing our various family members have said. Some kind of argument. Whatever. Share them here I guess.

Today I'm the youngest one at the table by at least 30 years (my sister's with her in-laws this year) and I learned that my great-uncle is a Freemason and my grandfather asked me if we do the 'rebel cheer' (as in Confederacy) at UGA. Political debate pending, I'm sure.

So what's happened with you this Thanksgiving / past Thanksgiving?
 
Right now my entire family is watching every MCU movie in order in the living room. They're currently on Avengers. I'm also packing to go see my fiancé in a few hours.

Been a nice day so far.
 
The day before Thanksgiving, my family agreed not to voluntarily discuss politics.

Unfortunately, a cousin of mine is living in DC.

Fill in the blanks.

Meanwhile, my aunt shared a story where she dreamed of my late grandmother the day before she broke her hand; she shared this with my sister, who got into a minor car accident around that time, and also had a dream about my grandmother. My sister debated whether or not to go to a medium.
 
Two of my uncles and my grandpa are talking about politics and won't shut up about it. No one else is talking about politics and people are visibly annoyed by it.

They had a year to talk about politics. Can we not have a break?
 
my 29 year old brother just came in talking about how he doesn't want to celebrate thanksgiving anymore because of what we did to the native americans.
 
I've been having a surprisingly civil discussion with my parents about how we're still fucking over native Americans. Spurred on by the cowboys and Redskins game that we are watching. It can be tough to get them to understand concepts like white privilege and whatnot, but they're at least open to level discussion.

Been a really pleasant day so far. Watching football, probably gonna watch Deadpool after dinner.
 
6 Thanksgiving ago, at the yet to be in laws, after dinner my wife went out to the back yard with our dog (my avatar) about 2 minutes later, he comes running in the house rubbing himself on everything. A fowl familiar odor started to spread. He was sprayed by a skunk in the face. Needless to say our night was over and we tortured poor Cooper all night with bath after bath. Took a good 2 months for the smell to be completely gone from his coat

Dude trust me I know. A skunk got in my car two years ago and I still havnt been able to get the smell out ;)

As for a funny story this one come from my uncle. So my uncle went to his side of the family for thanksgiving. He was all excited but then his family just kept gourmaing their food. Onions in the turkey and all that shit. Anyway he was pissed off so he goes into the kitchen and talks to his sister, "how the hell do you screw up corn, like who puts bacon in corn". His sister, "umm well It's a actually preety good you should try it I brought it". My uncle says "o wait you didn't let me finish what I was going to say was I thought they screwed it up until I tryed it, it's actually preety good". But the damage was already done haha
 
I stayed up til 5am last night so I could subconsciously be too tired to wake up this morning to go to my aunt's house for thanksgiving dinner because I'd rather spend it alone. Yay.
 
My wife was showing her mom a photo on an iPhone. My mother in law said "I wonder when this photo was taken?" And she instinctively turned to iPhone over to look for the date on the back.
 
My girlfriend and I cooked a dinner for 6 for 2 and proceeded to stuff ourselves and then watch a very very very bad movie (Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition). I was hopeful that it would be okay... they said the director's cut made a little bit more sense... I thought the internet was just giving it a bad rap like Man of Steel, which I enjoyed... man... that was terrible....
 
Almost no family drama this year! Quite a pleasant surprise. Nobody even discussed politics, outside of my uncle ribbing me for not congratulating him on Trump's win.

Good food, decent football and plenty of family.
 
my girlfriend's sister's mother in law told us a story about an older Guillain-Barre (paralyzed) lady patient being buttfucked at the hospital.

it was consensual so I think it's fine.
 
I checked out early after hearing someone say "you can't call me racist just because I don't like black people."
 
Just yesterday, I had to type out a "story" my crazy politics-loving uncle wrote out and print a bunch of copies so he could "send them all over the world." I was the lucky recipient of this job because I'm a teacher and I'd be able to correct his grammar.

It had something to do with him living in a nightmare if Hillary won and, suddenly, he meets Trump in a dream and discusses how he and my uncle will make America great again, how my uncle would've been a billionaire, and how his old bakery would been put in every Trump Tower next to Tiffany's and the Great Bank of China.

On top of that, he was sick so I'm sure I'm gonna get whatever he has. Good times.
 
Last year's Thanksgiving was the last time I ever talked to my grandmother before she died. She fell the day after thanksgiving and then went to bed for like two weeks and that was it.

Now that the election is over, there's no more Fox News blaring in the background. My family "won," their conservative dream came true. So no one discussed politics at the table. So it was peaceful. :l
 
My sister and I very insistently told my dad not to talk about politics.

Two hours later he's cracking jokes about Trump being a liar and a hypocrite in a room full of Trump supporters.

Yeah, this was the case at my house. Nobody really discussed anything.

Oh, and my mother decided to be gross and licked her knife before jamming it in the butter, so if you're in the market for some Country Crock with spit added, go through our trash can.
 
7+ hours of nonsense useless chatter. Felt like I was drowning under the fucking ocean tbh. I don't want to deal with looong extended family sessions anymore, I'd rather be alone. Kinda sad but honestly how I feel atm.
 
My sister's boyfriend flew in at the last minute after a fight without apologizing and now everyone has to pretend like he isn't a huge asshole.

$130 to feed two people on Thanksgiving?! Maybe I'm just old but that's a sin.

We got our 23lb turkey for free by just doing our regular shopping and letting the value points add up for a free turkey. Everything else (sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, bread, celery, onions, butter, spices, etc) probably only ran another $50ish.

And I fed 19 people with tons to spare.

Queue old man yelling at clouds gifs.
 
Luckily there wasn't much political talk because it was at my mom's side of the family. I talked about video games with my older cousin a bunch.

Best/weirdest conversation of the night:
Cousin: "Do you watch any TV shows?"
Me: "No. I don't watch any TV at all, ever. Except for uh, anime sometimes."
Cousin: "What anime?"
Me: "uh"
Cousin: "New or old?"
Me: "New."
Cousin: "Do you watch the ones with the cute girls."
Me: "Yeah"
Cousin: "I respect it."

Unfortunately I'm going to my dad's side of the family tomorrow, and they're full of Trump supporters, so.....V_V
 
My brother-in-law thought it would be funny to try and piss me off. We were going around the table, saying what we are thankful for, and when it got to his oldest daughter, he said something to the effect of, "you're surrounded by friends and family here, you can admit that you're thankful Trump won." Like 30 heads quickly spun to look for my reaction. Seeing as I was a guest in their home, I kept myself from stabbing out his eye with a spoon, and kept quiet. I'm sure they're irritated that I responded to my sister-in-law's assertion that everything would be fine and we should give Trump a chance with a hearty, "I NEED MORE WHITE PEOPLE TO TELL ME EVERYTHING IS GONNA BE OKAY."
 
I showed up because my sister more or less begged me to, to act as a buffer between the family and her endless anxiety towards said family. I spent most of the day in the basement playing Gears 4 with the cousins, so I have no idea how much political talk inevitably went down. Interaction with the family topped out at around 5% so overall it was a good time.
 
Went to my parents around 1230, talked about a recent vacation, ate food, talked about my recent breakup. Left around 330 with some leftovers, stopped at Wawa's for a sandwich to eat later and sat on the computer for the rest of the night.

Only time politics came up was when I mentioned the surprising results when I was abroad (Spain) and how people there reacted to it. My parents were also surprised (they are republican) and we moved on.
 
Nothing too exciting. Fiancé and myself drove to Ohio Wednesday night. Got to see and play with moms puppy. 6 month old chocolate lab. She's a ball of energy.

Thursday went off without a hitch. Went to both my mom and dads side and ate lots of food. Not too many wedding questions. Got back to Michigan Thursday night as I had to work today.

Did find out my father had a vasectomy a few years ago. My mom just kinda causally dropped it on me when her, my fiancé, and I were talking. Not that it was a big deal to me but I guess they wanted to keep it a secret since they are Catholic.
 
Are these kinds of days meant to be enjoyable? I'm not American so I don't celebrate Thanksgiving but I never look forward to days like Christmas because it means spending time with my more distant family members. Maybe I've just got crappy family or something but these days just wear me out every year.
 
They were all sick, wtf. Sure they have a 1 and 3 year old so I get it, kids are always getting sick. How hard is it to say "we've got colds going around and it would be best if we didn't come over this year." Thank goodness they left, I'm sure I came off as a jerk because I avoided them as much as possible.

I had no clue that my family thinks that Kanye West is being silenced by the liberal media because he came out in support for Donald Trump. To paraphrase - Kanye West holds so much sway amongst the black community that they needed to silence him. Also, George Soros started Black Lives Matter as a method to insight a black-on-white civil war.

Seriously. These are the things I had to argue against. It's hard to start somewhere when the claims are so incredibly ludicrous. It was upsetting.

My whole family ended up crying after getting into a huge argument about politics. My dad attacked me for being a college educated liberal who doesn't work for anything and I attacked him for having a 7th grade education (which he does). My mom didn't like us arguing and my sister with her boyfriend in tow showed up towards the middle of the argument only to leave 10 minutes later in tears. Her boyfriend stuck around for a sec to say bye then left with her. We eventually resolved everything after crying for a bit and reached an understanding.

And this all started after I walked in and had to deal with our old neighbor talking for 2 hours about how Trump is going to be amazing and how Obama was a shifty president. Bit my tongue and everything. Went to talk to my mom about it after our neighbor left and that's when everything went down.

Resolving it required me telling my dad that I'm proud that he's been able to achieve what he has with his limited education and I only talk positively about it to friends. I also mentioned how I didn't like being attacked for going to college because that's what he always wanted for me and told me to always "work smarter, not harder" cuz he didn't want me to go down the road he went. We all eventually hugged it out sans my sister who I'm sure thinks I started the whole thing.

So it went pretty well. Yknow... after all the crying.
