I've disabled this thing from Startup in msconfig three times now.

It seems to put itself back in there at its own will.

I've deleted the registry key, and it still comes back.

BLAH!!!

There's a lot of shit that i dont know whether i should keep or not.

What are the ones i should delete (obviously depends on what i have on my system) and the ones that should stay?

Get rid of Quicktime task icon:
Control Panel -> Quicktime -> Browser Plug-in -> Uncheck "Quicktime system tray icon"

Works on my version, at least.

On a related note, i finally got rid of realsched.exe by making a copy of it, and renaming the original to realsched.ex_. i know, it's pointless to make a copy of something simply renamed, but i always do that before editing a file, especially when alcohol is involved.

No problems with RealPlayer after that, and it's been almost two months.

That is what "Real Alternative" is for.

I've pretty much given up on startup programs like that. I still keep it pretty clean, but shit that only runs for a second (I assume) and stops like NeroCheck, qttask, ClonecdTray I stopped worrying about.

Unnecessary stuff like MS Intellitype, Intellipoint I just let run, I have a gig of ram, fuck it.

I used to keep it under 20 processes at startup, but now I shoot for 25.

I got so tired of programs like QT and Real Player trying to always be startup programs that I just completely got rid of them and use QT Alternative and Real Alternative. Great programs! :)

What's up with QT Alternative and Real Alternative? Do I search for those terms? Also WinPatrol is a decent program for monitoring startup programs. It might even control qttask. But it, in itself, is a startup program. So It may be counterproductive. I like it nonetheless.

The file will always come up when you watch a QuickTime video on any site. It is just some stupid up dater file , so go find it in the Program Files/QuickTime folder and rename QTTask.exe to any thing else then disable it in MSConfig and it should not come back.
