Basically, this is the first year ever where the entire academy gets to vote on the nominees, as opposed to previous years, where the academy voted on who got nominated, and a "blue ribbon jury" picked the winners from those nominees.

It gets so much positive critical attention (especially after its first season) but almost no award attention. Never really understood it. I know Fantasy and sci-fi genre shows tend to get shafted and ignored, but The Americans isn't one of those.

Then again, I don't think Justified got as much love as it should have. So maybe it's an FX thing. Been a long time since The Shield ended.
