Yup I'm making a thread for this awesome little game. One of my favorite games ever is Killing Floor and they made another little awesome game now called the Ball. I played it for a while before going on to play some survival mode.

What I think of it? Well it's crude yet very good, nice graphics and sometimes manuvering the ball is tricky but damned if it isn't the very best fun even fighting enemies can be damn fun. I love survival modes.

Sorry if everything doesn't look great this is my first OT.

Here's my own gameplay videos.

Sample gameplay of campaign: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN64nvBACcw
I know it's lacking footage but I'm sorta busy with other stuff too. Like uploading the rest of my killing floor videos. And I um..faded out the last part cause I fell in the lava.

And gameplay of my run on Survival mode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWsmLlpgYck
Fun fun fun.

it's a budget title, cmon you've got no excuse.

I can't stand the art style of this game. It has that super ugly and brown Unreal 3 look. Just because you use the engine doesn't mean you have to make ugly. Look at Mirrors Edge for example.

I was excited seeing the Steam banner because so few games use the Aztec/Mayan aesthetic and fewer do it well and it looked by the ad to be pretty heavily steeped in it.

Then I watched the preview video and it was basically a brown mess. It's a shame because half of the fun of that cultural aesthetic is bright, vibrant colors. I'll give it a shot if a demo rolls around, it looks basically like the gravity gun sections of HL2 expanded.

I think the gameplay looks like a good time, but I think the art direction is a tragedy.

Yeah but Mirrors Edge used an entirely different lighting engine than what the UE had. That's why it looked so good. UE's default lighting only looks "good" in dark games.

Oh, bitch bitch bitch.
Game looks great. Love the art direction and the Aztec architecture. Look like it could be a fun Portalesque FPS puzzle game (we need more of these).

Downloading as we speak.

Plus the preorder KF character is awesome looking and Tripwire makes great games and than supports them with free content (though I wonder if The Ball will get any). They are like a mini Valve.

Will buy when I clear my current crop of games. At the very least I'll grab it during an upcoming break. Trailers looked awesome.

That's not Tripwire, they're publishers on this one.

The game looks fine. Those pictures are just horribly compressed. They could also use a little AA.

Lightmass can do anything BEAST can.

Gears of Roar.

Actually, this doesn't look half bad. Art style's a bit too grungy for my taste. I like the atmosphere.

they're better than 90% of console games (Enslaved, I'm looking at you). I'm talking about IQ, not artstyle.

How many guys made it? Two, correct?

No, quite a big international team. 20 people or so. May be less or more than that, I don't remember.

Sorry I was wrong about Tripwire actually making it.

None the less it's a very good game.

Plus everyone should try Killing Floor at least once. It's right up there with L4D2.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
I picked this up when they had the 50% off preorder last month, and played it last night.

It's very good so far. Imagine Portal but instead of a companion cube you have a ball. And no Portals. And it isn't as good, but it is still quite good.

Wow, this game plays and looks quite nice. A definite improvement from their UDK demo.

The screens in the OP are really poorly chosen. They neither represent the game's graphics nor its content all that well.

Spiritual successor to Roboblitz with a dash of Portal if you ask me. It's a neat physics puzzler, it would not feel out of place as a sort of UE3 introduction/tech demo, though.

I liked this bit:
Aztec Companion Ball
:lol

edit: also, summed up pretty well in this quote:
And I think that’s what is best about The Ball. It’s an uncommon thing. But yeah, what has kept me going through The Ball was to see what it did, simply because it wasn’t a shooter. It’s all about architectural puzzles in this big spooky temple place.

edit²: I love RPS.

christ who gives a shit.

The Ball is like Portal only in that it is a first person shooter puzzle game. If there were more than a few of them they wouldn't seem comparable at all.

Anyways, its a good game. Not nearly as good as Red Orchestra or Killing Floor, but what is?

I started playing it but it didn't capture my imagination in any particular way, so I decided to leave it for winter holidays.

wow, this is the shortest OT ever.

anyway I'm playing this right now and plan to complete it. It's quite good and polished but not GOTY material for sure. Still I glad I bought it. Puzzles get more interesting the further you progress. It's VERY atmospheric. I want to see how it ends. Glad I bought it.

Did you play the Portal levels?

On the menu there is something like level select or time trails, something like that, it lets you choose any level, and they're in there.

oh thanks, I'll try them.

Honestly, I tried playing this game a couple weeks ago, but just couldn't get into it. Went and looked at my friends list and it was a pretty big trainwreck as far as playtimes went. Very few ever got past the first achievement (which is where I finally just decided to quit).

I don't know why such thing happens to this game. Mechanic are polished and solid, it's fun, puzzles are challenging and not frustrating, it has nice graphics but it doesn't suck you in. I'm playing it, enjoying it, but if I didn't have a goal to geat my backlog before I start buying something, I wouldn't do it. I don't regret buying it as I have said, it's very varied.

I think one of the resons is desolate atmosphere + tense, almost horror vibe.
