This intimate, riveting book invites us to travel back in time to January 1969, the beginning of The Beatles’ last year as a band. The BEATLES (‘The White Album’) is still at number one in the charts, but the ever-prolific foursome regroup in London for a new project, initially titled Get Back. Over 21 days, first at Twickenham Film Studios and then at their own brand-new Apple Studios, with cameras and tape recorders documenting every day’s work, the band rehearse a huge number of songs, new and old, in preparation for what proves to be their final concert, which famously takes place on the rooftop of their own Apple Corps office building, bringing central London to a halt.

This book has an August 31, 2021 publication date.

lol wow. i can't believe it's finally coming.

i got a bootleg VHS of Let It Be in the late 1990s. it's a great movie, but really shows them going through some rough times. that's why it has never been re-released.

my favorite bit from the movie is the alternate take of "I, Me, Mine":

I’m super excited about this book and the Peter Jackson release next August. I saw Let it be when I was a kid in the theaters and then bought the 35mm print in high school for almost nothing. I’ve since digitized it, in fear that they would never release it due to the remaining Beatles owning the release rights and not liking the way they were portrayed in it.
ABC/Disney also needs to rerelease the 1995 Anthology in HD or higher since the DVD releases are kind of showing their age.

Supposedly Jackson has footage that paints the album in a different light. A lot more camaraderie than what was originally shown. The premise has my interest piqued.

Yes!

(Obviously, the movie release date got pushed back from the article's timeframe.)

Yes I believe McCartney was on Stern and he talked about this. He went in expecting the movie to be them fighting and bickering, but the cut just showed them having fun and enjoying themselves. He said that all you hear about was how the band ended so you start to believe it over time, but the footage paints it in a completely different light. As a huge Beatles fan I am stoked to see this!

Sorry for the double post but I love how George just wrote songs to trigger his bandmates from 68 onwards :messenger_tears_of_joy:

"Gather round lads I got a waltz I just wrote" sings about bandmates being a bunch of childish cunts

While my Guitar and Savoy Truffle are the two other examples. I love I Me Mine though and think it's one of the highlights on Let It Be. The minor waltz that turns into a blues shuffle is just such a cool way of contrasting two seperate sections. One highlights the sadness of the situation while the other shows the aggressive stupidity by chanting "I I me me mine" over a simple blues riff. God I miss George.

...and, of course, it's brilliant BUT the Glyn Johns mix of I Me Mine is so distorted and ruined by fuzz or something. It's bizarre and I don't know how it was cleared for release.
