I hoped that they would have cast him as LS instead of going the creepy CGI-face route they did in The Mandalorian.

With the right haircut etc. I think he would nail it. It's important that there's a resemblance, but the most important thing is the acting. It's like when someone plays Abraham Lincoln or other celebrities, you don't expect a 1:1 likeness.
