What is Bejeweled Blitz Live?

http://blog.games.com/2011/01/18/bejeweled-blitz-live-for-xbox-thrives-on-speed-and-competiton/

PopCap's Facebook game Bejeweled Blitz is headed to Xbox Live in the next few months. The game, called Bejeweled Blitz Live, is largely similar to the Facebook version, the goal is to match three or more of the same colored gems as possible in 60 seconds, and see how your score stacks up against friends in an in-game leaderboard.

There is absolutely no connection between the Facebook game and this new version (the two games, say, don't share a leaderboard), sand there are a few other key differences -- including an epic-sounding 16-player Party mode, as in, 16 people can play the game at the same time over Xbox Live, competing for a top spot in an in-game leaderboard. You will also be able to go head-to-head against friends over Live or just play against other people in your own living room.

Like all Bejeweled games, Bejeweled Blitz Live has that same addictive quality, and once you finish a one-minute round (which ends all too quickly), it'll be hard to resist playing again and again until you beat your friends and see your name move to the top of the leaderboard.

Seasoned Bejeweled players, however, will have to get used to using an Xbox Live controller to match gems instead of a keyboard and mouse. To move gems, you use the left thumb stick to select a game and then use the four colored buttons on the controller to determine which way the gem will move (up, down, left, right).

Release Date and Price

Just in the nick of time, Microsoft has announced dates and prices for its month-long Xbox Live Arcade House Party promotion. Things kick off on February 16 with Arc System Works' not-Contra side-scroller, Hard Corps: Uprising, priced at 1200 points ($15), followed by PopCap's Bejeweled Blitz on February 23, for 800 points ($10).

Things really get moving on March 2, when Beyond Good & Evil HD is released for the eminently reasonable price of 800 points. The last two releases will undoubtedly gather the most attention: the excellent, heretofore computer-bound, dungeon crawler Torchlight will be released on March 9 for 1200 points, while Microsoft's Live-enabled Full House Poker makes its debut on March 16 for a surprisingly low 800 points.

I don't like that your only legal moves have to be matches. It seems like that would limit the combo potential. But I've never been big into Bejeweled so maybe that's not the case.

Hmm, this seems a little disappointing. I suppose the main draw would be the multiplayer, but I can only test the singleplayer in the demo, and that's kinda limited. Only 1 minute games, and the music isn't by Skaven (who did the music in Bejeweled 1->3).

I started a battle game this morning and when the board loaded there was already a row of 3 red squares lined up. The game froze and I was stuck listening to the music before my opponent quit and it sent me back to the lobby. Very weird...

Played the trial, so did the mrs. Both hated it!

Love B2 got it on xbla and iPhone along with blitz. The press the coloured buttons for direction kill it for us. Yuk!

I don't seem to be earning XP in classic. It says I only have 500 but played dozens of times. Found a few other people who are having the same issue. Anyone else here have this problem?

So I got the game free from a Twitter contest, and after putting some hours into it, I actually got my highest personal score for Bejeweled Blitz. Previous high score was 600k I think, I got 724k on the X360 version. Which is weird cause if you watch my replay, I got the last 300-400k points in the final part of the game. I feel like this game has different scoring algorithm than the Facebook/iPhone version

I got the PSP version of Bejeweled 2 a while back and was baffled at why the face buttons were used for moving. I'm much more efficient when I can just hold a button and drag it with the d-pad. Wish they gave you an option to change it to classic style. Something like that can't be too complicated to patch in, right?

Sorry for double post, but I wanted to bump this up to see if anyone is still actively playing this. If you are add me, my GT is Johnnie Guitar. Need some scores to compete against! =D
