The best "Reveal" in a game

What singular moment made you go 'holy crap'?! after it occured, either because it was so unexpected (in a Shyamalan sort of way, ala KOTOR), or because you simply thought it was so goddamn cool

My vote goes to Citan <you know it if you've played it> in Xenogears, which is rather sad, but for whatever reason, I thought it was unbelievably awesome during and after it happened. I don't think I could tolerate the pretentious story again (or the crap UI and graphics) to replay it again, but maaaaan that was sweet.

There are many, many others, but I'm just looking for those that stood out in your mind, for whatever reason.

"500 Years Later..."

Expected a great FF4 or FF6 ending, and instead got that garbage.
That made me say "holy crap" in a bad way.

Knights of the Round made me say "holy crap" in a good way, though. :)

As far as a traditional "reveal", yeah, the MGS series has reveals on top of reveals. :lol
 
My pick is from Super Mario Bros 128. When Mario is kissing Princess Peach, and moves down her naked body only to get poked in the eye by her penis. That came out of nowhere!

This is an oldie, but : Karateka on the Apple II. I was about 7 I guess when I played this game and the first time I got to the end (which was really an unbelievable thing for me to achieve back then in my mind), I got killed by the princess I had to save. It seems you had to run towards her and not walk like I did, because then she would see you as 1 of the guards and kick your ass. That was an "holy crap" moment for me. I don't think there are many games where you can get wacked by the 1 you have to save.

I think even more shocking than that came in Mario & Luigi 3: Teh Ghey where at the end Luigi is giving Mario a reach-around and tricks Mario by dumping a quart of hot yogurt on his back. Man, that totally blew me away!
 
What can I say? I have a thing for sado-masochist porn involving my childhood heroes.

As long as I get to see Princess Zelda drop trou on Link in the MATURE Twilight Princess, I'll be happy.

Yes! I think gamers screamed out a collective, "YOU UNGRATEFUL B****!" at that moment. :lol
 
I shall stop this from becomming yet another MGS circle jerk and mention the real number 1:

Robot Willy in Mega Man 3. Runner up is SotN.
 
Whichever one of the GBA Metroids has that surprise at the latter part of the game. Too tired to look it up. It was cool.

I think the end reveal from Metroid 1 (NES) was one of the biggest of the 8-bit era.

I saw that twist coming after watching the second dream, about the topic Planescape:Torment unexpected end of the game boss, pretty kick ass too.

What exactly is it that you don't get? When I finished Metroid (the original for the NES) for the first time, I had no idea that Samus was a woman. In fact, nobody else I knew had found it out either by that point. There was a time when it was a surprise...

Ugh. My copy of Glitch-tor screwed up on me and I saw that cutscene out of order. I saw it right after leaving the first planet, so it was ruined immediately for me. Also, I got that nifty glitch where it said I had logged over 1,000,000 hours of gameplay.
 
Also, i forgot to add one more on my post.


The other one is Zelda: Wind Waker. I was not expecting Ganondorf to be in this game. That was an awesome one on one fight at the end! And plus the king
dies
too.
 
In FF6,
when the world changes from Balance to Ruin, where you're left alone, and the game becomes non-linear,
was one of those moments.

Realizing that you could actually save Shadow
was also really cool to discover, and rewarded you for thinking of your entire party instead of just yourself.
