Loves his juicy stink trail scent
I think that I've listed all the major ones.

I was debating adding stellar blade and black myth Wukong, but only added Wukong as it follows the formula more.

Let me know if I missed a major contenders. You 4 Surge 2 fans can stfu.

I also haven't included Star Wars JS games or any 2D souls like metroidvanias.

For me? I think it has to be Lies of P.

Half of the options on your list aren't even Soulslikes.
Of the games on your list, Lies of P is the closet to an actual Souls game.

The Surge 1 is the correct answer, though.

My answer remains the same.

Thanks for understanding.

Half of them aren't?

The only one maybe isn't is Wukong. The rest absolutely are. lol wtf?

Hollow Knight is a metroidvania through and through. It is barely a souls like.

Like cmon…

it has the souls retrieval mechanic, Wu Kong doesn't.

therefore Hollow Knight is more Souls-Like than Wu Kong... which is not a Souls-Like.
I call games like Hollow Knight who aren't RPGs but do have the souls mechanic, Souls-Lite.

This make me reminded of The Mummy Demastered

If only there was only one element defining a soulslike, but it's a collection of design mechanics. This answer is thus far too simplistic.

Half of the list is just boss-rush games. There's hardly any exploration, no guaranteed-spawn items, no shortcuts and using new items to access previously-unreachable areas, no retrieving your souls when you die, no increasing difficulty upon death, and so forth.

Though...
I guess, technically, they're Soulslikes in that they are similar to Nightreign; but I wasn't really thinking about that game during my first post.

Generally souls like:
-Have some fundamental parry/dodge mechanic
-Bosses that clap your cheeks
-Bonfire like checkpoint system
-Flasks to heal
-Interwoven world

The problem with listening all the 2D stuff is you get into games that clearly metroidvanias first that ape some of the above, and there is a list of them so big it becomes insane to list them all…

Remnant I + II
Soulslike with guns. Different enough to make it feel fresh IMO.

Anyone remember the 2014 OG Lords of the Fallen? Lol that shitstain almost singlehandedly put me off the genre. 😅

Like it or not, Hollow Knight is the closest thing you'd get from Dark Souls.

This was the game that gave me very similar vibes and feeling than Dark Souls.

I tested few "Souls like" and none where feeling like a Souls game.
Nioh is a completely different type of game to me. I couldn't finish it.
Mortal Shell is a nice small game with heavy gameplay (I like that) but again it was completely different than a souls to me.
I guess Remant would classify as "Souls like" but again uninspired.

But to me Souls game from Fromsoft are not defined by only their mechanics (stamina, dodge, death, bonfire, recover of experience on bloodstains etc...), the atmosphere and feeling they give are more defining to me.

Nioh 2, Lies of P has no chance in hell compared to Nioh 2's combat. Hell, even From Software can't beat that games combat aside from Sekiro. Shame the Nioh 2 devs are making absolute turds now and I have no hope in Nioh 3 after trying the demo. They need to hire better tech devs.

Nioh 2

I absolutely hate Lies of P. It's the textbook example of what happens when a developer tries to mimic FromSoftware's magic without actually understanding what makes those games special. It feels like someone studied Bloodborne and Dark Souls frame by frame, then tried to recreate it beat for beat, but stripped of soul, nuance, and identity

Everything about it reeks of imitation. The art direction, the UI, the weight of the combat, the vague storytelling, its all lifted wholesale from FromSoftware's playbook. But instead of feeling inspired, it just comes off as embarrassingly derivative. It's like they wanted to copy 1:1, but kept insisting, "No no, its totally our own thing."

There is zero originality here. No bold ideas, no twists on the formula, just a mechanical, soulless checklist of what they think makes a great Soulslike. And the worst part? It takes itself so serious, as if its standing shoulder to shoulder with the games it's copying, when really, its just playing dress up in someone elses clothes

Lies of p, liked that one as much id not better than some from games.

A bit lower the surge saga, rought around the edges but they add a lot of personal stuff that work wonderfully.

I know the nioh are good but i only and i mena only enjoy the combat in these games, nothing else at all.

The remnamts games for soulslike with guns.
