I just saw the re-release of the Samuel Fuller WWII flick and was pretty damn impressed.

I'd seen it as a kid and didn't take a lot away from it, but this time around I found it to be a pretty dark, mature and nuanced story about war.

This luke-warm review of the movie comes with a little bit of the story behind this cut.

Isn't the reconstructed version still well short of Fuller's director's cut? I remember reading something like that. It played in a theatre near here for awhile and I heard a lot of good things, never got around to seeing it though.
