Did anybody in this thread read the writeup? Interesting premise.. it's the Punch Out style view but with fighting game type moves... the game is based on betting that takes place during the fight. You can use the L button in combination to fake like you are hitting the opponent or lead with your chin to make yourself more vulnerable.. to get the odds heavily stacked against you then turn around and kick ass....

Color me curious.

Thank God this is not on the DS, so the ugliness is just contained to just one screen.

Why is the dude in the third pic transparent?

It's a perspective thing apparently. But uhh...holy shit if this isn't the ugliest PSP game in development.

Yuck!

"Holy crap, is that Jim Kelly!? I loved him in Enter the Dragon and Black Belt Jones!"

Damn it, that was gonna be my line :p

As for the game, it looks pretty average. Bear in mind that these screens are blown up more than twice their native resolution, of course they're gonna look jaggy.

Looking at them in 480, it looks pretty solid. But yeah, too brown :p

Goddamn you people really can't read... this game is played in a over the shoulder 3 quarter perspective so your character will sometimes be transparent in the Punch Out style to see attacks.

Watching the movie clips it's definitely an attempt to fuse a punch out style game with fighting game attacks, wrestling moves, grapples, takedowns, etc...

Did a little more research on Think and Feel. They also worked on Boxer's Road (PS1), The Adventures of Little Ralph (PS1) and Victorious Boxers (PS2)... that's a pretty good track record so maybe this'll play well at least. They're also making an unannounced DS game it seems.

Edit~ Er, the "unannounced DS game" is probably Monster Summoner II.

See this is one big gag, here's the deal:

- Gamer needs new PSP software
- Gamer goes buy "The Con"
- Gamer puts it in
- Gamer am owned total :lol
- Gamer finally understands the true meaning of the title "The Con"

eh? the developers of little ralph and victorious boxers were called "new corporation," and judging by their website, still are: http://www.new.co.jp/

have they changed their name, or has there been a mix-up? i really hope they aren't responsible for this. :(

edit: oh -- looks like new corporation has split into a number of different developers organized under the "ertain" group: http://www.ertain.com/en/ertain/group/

less nĂĽ-blaxploitation more 2d platforming, pls. :(

Not defending this game but it's got to look better at the regular PSP's screen size and not super blown up like that.

I personally find it hilarious that the name of the game is "The Con" and that two characters are both black lol. Guess that would be the only explanation for having the main character be a black martial artist....

We need to make a thread about ironically appropriate game names.

Though several fighting games are already out for the PSP, October will see an all-new brawler step into the portable ring. Sony Computer Entertainment America announced today. Called The Con, the game is being developed at SCEA's Santa Monica studio, and has not yet been rated or priced.

As described in GameSpot's hands-on preview of the game, the Con puts a gritty spin on the fighting genre. It is set in an underworld of no-holds-barred bouts and high-stakes gambling. Players will create a fighter who will specialize in one of five combat styles-- boxing, wrestling, kickboxing, Tae Kwon Do and Jeet Kune Do.

In the game's story mode, players will train their fighters solo or in team of three, which increases the strategic element. Players can also engage in straight head-to-head matches in ad hoc multplayer, which will support up to two players.

The Con also has several features not found in most other fighting games. First is the addition of gambling, which will allow players to bet on their own fights--which they can then deliberately lose to win big. The game also sports an "image import" feature which will allow players to import photos from a PC (via the PSP's Memory Stick Duo) to add to their in-game character.

What's funny is that people have been asking for more original games on the PSP but if this is what Sony has in mind we don't want any.

Here's what they look like at something approaching native resolution (not exactly, cause of those stupid borders... but close).

Just looks "meh."

Ah, Michael beat it to me.

GS has 4 direct feed vids up too. Pretty bland and only one of the vids shows elements of the con/gambling system as affects the fight. Hard to tell just how much impact it has on proceedings. And they don't say what you can do with the money you earn on a successful fight.

Now, if they announced this game was online and allowed 8-12 real spectators to bet on your matches and involved a persistent ranking system with a way to schedule fights that people could bet on...then it would get interesting...

WTf is up with people releasing PSP screenshots at 10x the size of the psp screen? All it does is make your shitty game look shittier.

Did I mention this looks like shit? It is almost like these screenshots are trying to see how many times you can say shit in one post.

EDIT: I just took a shit and it looked better than this.
