So has anyone seen this yet?
I thought it was well worth seeing--it's a better movie than it has a right to be, though not as good as City of God. Fernando Meirelles is turning out to be a really great director.
The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the plotting of the cloak-and-dagger elements--
But if you look at the thriller plot as an excuse to show the influence of Western pharmaceutical companies on impoverished African nations, then it's easy to forgive that. I cared more about that than I did about the fates of the individual characters--
Oh, yeah--the visual imagery is incredible. It looks like every frame of the film's been digitally treated in one way or another, but in relatively subtle ways--Meirelles doesn't go overboard with it. Even when I was bored with the plotting, I was blown away by the way that Meirelles chose to shoot and edit certain sequences, like
.
So, yeah, it's not a perfect movie, but it's definitely worth seeing in a theater. I'm looking forward to Meirelles' next film.

that business with the incriminating letter dragged on for so long that I no longer cared when it was finally read, e.g.
whether Tessa was cheating on her husband, etc.
