The COPYCAT Movie Debate of ALL-TIME : Eyes Wide Shut

I am declaring the Movie Debate series dead for the Superhero Edition until further notice. Copycats are stealing the format!

Kubrick was really horny and convinced Kidman to let him film her having sex... so genius of course.

I dunno. I have this weird thing for this flick where every time it's on, I have to see at least a little bit of it everytime. It's very haunting somehow. Plus, Nicole Kidman's ass looks great.

I love the scene when they're toking and talking about infidelity. I don't like pasty pale red heads, but something about her hiitting a 'J' in her drawers just turns me on. I don't think I've seen the movie in its entirety.

There are some highlights in there, but I don't think there's much genius to be found. I particularly love the scene where Cruise is being followed at night. But really, I'm not sure the film really had much to say that isn't rather obvious for most adults. Technically, there's a lot of really great stuff to be seen, but I just don't think the film has anything real new, fresh or insightful to say.

A bunch of nude stick figures doesn't do it for me either.

Genius? Nah. Crap? Nah, it's watchable, which is more than can be said of many movies.

But it's too muddled. It's like a sexed up wanna-be crime drama
except we find out there was no crime. It would've been more interesting if the sex club threatened his family and he had to expose them or something, but that would be too much action for Kubrick
.

I liked the sex and nudity, but the movie was crap, imho.

It's as if Kubrick took all of his directorial prowess (and it is immense, and I am a fan) and decided to make the best Roger Corman movie possible.

Oh, but
there was indeed crime. That's what the whole fake-out ending with Sydney Pollack was about.
