Clear Angle Studios offers insights into the Hollywood tech used to create custom characters and NPCs for Star Citizen and its single-player campaign

Squadron 42 features a superstar cast, including Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Mark Hamill, Andy Serkis, and Henry Cavill – to name a few.
To create digital replicas of these actors, as well as player characters and other NPCs, Cloud Imperium utilised new 4D technology created by a unique partnership which included a Hollywood VFX company.
Clear Angle Studios specialises in utilising scanning technology for films and television, including its head scanning system Dorothy, which features 76 cameras and 1,500 lights to capture both 3D and 4D textures.
Last August, it partnered with 4D facial performance capture service DI4D and post-production company TexturingXYZ to launch a new 4D facial mocap service.
As part of this collaboration, Clear Angle was involved in the custom character creation and NPC scans.

Its pretty impressive but its also kinda behind the times in terms of rendering, probably because as chap above me says, it was done a long time ago.

I have no idea if this will be any good lol is it even releasing on console?

Isn't this just face scan tech?

That's like saying a traced drawing looks good; half the work was already done for you.

Is it even releasing on PC would be a better question.

Very telling that screens from this game once looked mindblowing but it takes them so long to finish the damn game that by now it looks mid.
The pics in the OP aren't even from the most recent, far more advanced showings of the game.

Which is to say that the cutscenes look much better than that right now.

Well, public progress indicators suggest it might end up for a release next year, though it might end up being too tight, idk. But another positive indicator is that since all the major mechanics and game chapters are complete, most CIG developers have shifted their focus back to Star Citizen.

Does Gary Oldman have pink hair in this or is it just a really bad lighting reflection?

I sometimes wonder why people here are making themselves look like idiots on purpose. It's obviously a global illumination example, easily concluded from looking at the interior which is also painted in the same hues by the lighting.

Excuse me for not being able to distinguish shitty lighting from intentional hair color.

Pretty sure that is why they are dragging their feet - a poorly reviewing SP game will also drag down their cash cow Star Citizen.
I doubt anything is able to drag down Star Citizen... I mean, Star Citizen is having its best funding year in history this very year :messenger_grinning_smiling:

YearTotal Funding (Jan–Sep)Notes
2019~$33.2MPre-pandemic baseline; steady growth
2020~$48.9MCOVID-era surge; more players at home
2021~$54.1MContinued momentum; Invictus gains
2022~$71.5MRecord-breaking May and August
2023~$77.8MStrong IAE and patch-driven spikes
2024~$80.9MSlight growth; stable engagement
2025~$92.6M+14.4% YoY increase; April and September standout months

Month2024 Funding (USD)2025 Funding (USD)Year-over-Year Change
January$5.9M$7.8M+32%
February$5.2M$6.5M+25%
March$6.1M$8.2M+34%
April$5.7M$8.1M+42%
May$9.4M$11.2M+19%
June$6.3M$7.9M+25%
July$5.8M$7.4M+28%
August$6.0M$8.3M+38%
September$6.5M$9.1M+40%

Funnily enough, it could almost seem like the whining and bitching from the usual suspects actually helps the project rather than bringing it down 🤷‍♂️

This doesn't make this whole farce less of a money laundering scheme, just a successful one.

Sure, keep the drivel flowing - it appears to help more people find out about the game. On the behalf of CIG, thanks for your valuable contribution. Happy funding :messenger_blowing_kiss:
