On the subject of TDKR, I have a horrible feeling it isn't going to be very good. I don't know why, I just can't shake it from my poor little head.

It is the third film blues you're sensing. It will very very interesting to see if Nolan can shake the curse.

Yeah because, you know juniors can not possibly have been turned to juniors recently after having been here for some time and then lurking for quite a while longer before joining.
Here is a protip: using junior proves that there are strong odds that you are a drooling jackass.

I am well aware of how it ends up on "nolangaf", that does not mean that it has to be tolerated.
 
I have my doubts about TDKR too. Only because I thought TDK and Inception were inferior to his previous two films. I hope I'm not disappointed again.
 
Anyone wonder what a Malick directed Batman would be like?

I can't really picture it in my head but it would certainly be an experience.

I would be so hyped for anything resembling a Final Crisis film/Trilogy. Fuck that would confuse so many people, especially the segment where everyone has to put on 3D glasses. It would be glorious.

I can't think of anyone I'd like to direct another Batman film because the only direction to go now is more comic book.

Fuck it, give it to Edgar Wright.
 
Fincher would be well suited for more technologically oriented heroes like Batman or Ironman, but a larger part of me thinks he'd probably knock out The Punisher with a very different take on the material than what's out there now. Ironman/Batman don't have as deep of darkness / leeway with the license as something like that, Fincher could make his version pretty lean and impactful without being as cheesy.
 
The Punisher is a good shout, as would have Ghost Rider. Unfortunately the directors of the new one fucked it up, it's a shame because they seemed like good choices.

If it was up to me, I'd leave it for years until Nolan and Bale wanted to come back and do a TDKReturns style movie. As it isn't and they will do a new one, Fincher's probably the best possible bet. If Neill Blomkamp's next film builds on the promise of District 9, maybe him, or Alfonso Cuaron.

A few years ago I would have said Aronofsky could do a good Batman movie. I'm not too sure about that now.

He'd probably just try out outdo Nolan and make a mess of it.

Cuaron is a good shout actually.

I always thought he was just okay. I was meh about The Wrestler and Requiem, The Fountain was pretty good and I loved Black Swan. But it would be similar to Fincher's I think, I'd like to see it taken in a different direction or not at all.
 
I think a Shane Black written/directed Batman movie would be very interesting. A heavily sarcastic, demented Batman would be great. Plus, if anyone could pull off a decent Batman/Robin combo onscreen it would be Black as he is the master of the "buddy" schtick.

So what I'm essentially saying is bring back Val Kilmer as Batman and get Robert Downey Jnr as Robin and we're set.

He could do location shooting of the Bat Cave from there.

Shane Black's quite a good choice as well, I don't know if they'd be any good or not because we know how awful the Schumacher films were, but they do need to be more like a comic book or I'm not really interested.

that's sort of what you need, isn't it? You need a franchise that is so messed up that a studio don't know how to fix it and would let a young exciting talent do their own take on it, which is how nolan got onto batman. We might have gotten that without batman and robin.

But the batman name as it is now is more likely to be a burden to established directors and young ones will likely be pushed around. I would say it's even limiting for Nolan. Rebooting for th sake of rebooting a series isn't gonna do much good.

Yeah, I really don't see where they're going to go from here. It's a difficult one because it's their biggest money maker but they either carry down the tried and tested road and people will eventually get bored and ideas will run out, or they take a risk and go for something new.

I know this is a few pages late ... and i'm not really a fan of the film that much but i like that you pointed out the sci-fi horror aspect and that feeling of dread as there were times i felt that was some of the only things the movie did right. I went to this flick with a pretty good group of friends one which had said for years.. like since middle school.. that the only two things that really scare her are lightning and aliens...

it was a wonderful thing to sit next to her durring the rising action in WotW. Like.. white knuckles forgetting to breathe she was so scared. Wonderful. I'll forever give props to the scene of tom cruise running through the streets with ashes of people all over him. Pretty great visual spectacle through out the whole film.
