OH MY GOD.

This design was submitted for the Design by Humans t-shirt contest and they didn't select. Those fools!

Dammit. Now I can't unnotice Hardy's pinky. That thing looks fucked. He should just lop it off. It can't still be serviceable.

I have yet to ever fully read a Dark Knight / Batman comic book. Could anyone recommend me a few before I go and see the movie?

TDKR looks to combine elements from The Dark Knight Returns and Knightfall, if you just want to see the comics related to the movie. Similarly TDK is largely inspired by The Long Halloween, and Begins is Year One and The Man Who Falls.

by the way have you guys ever noticed in Batman 89 during the scene where they are breaking into the safe at Axis Chemicals Bob the Goon looks directly at the camera? Always bugged me even as a kid.

There's a reason he's Bob the Goon and not Bob the Guy Who Had a Career in Acting.

Azzarello's Joker was so disappointing to me. The art is gorgeous, but the writing is... eh.

Couldn't disagree more. I love the idea of stripping away all of the glamor and mystique and just featuring Joker as just a deranged thug. The ending is especially great. It works even better as a companion piece to Azzarello's Lex Luthor: Man of Steel. Not sure which one I like better. They're both some of my favorite comics ever.

Anyone who recommends The Dark Knight Returns will get smacked in the face with deviant art.

What's especially disappointing about DKR, is that parts of it are brilliant. Bruce solemnly walking under the streetlights after a sad meeting with Gordon. His reflection on what he was supposed to be. The special edition's opening newspaper article. And then's it all thrown out the window for a bunch of caricatures, cut-rate satire, and the usual Frank Miller insanity. As a more restrained, nuanced story, it could have been a masterpiece.

I dunno. I know that's what he's going for, but it just ended up feeling like Mark Millar excess to me.

Holy shit, he's the masturbating bum from IASiP.

Ugh, no. I hate Millar more than any other writer. Azzarello actually puts thought into his stories. Gives his characters dimension. Millar just throws in "rape" and whatever other depraved thing he can think of and acts like it's deep.

I want to watch him masturbate to Partyman.

I did enjoy his Red Son.

I hate Millar too (I preferred the film adaptations to his actual comics). Maybe Azzarello's writing just didn't click with me. I just wasn't particularly engaged with the story, it began feeling excessive in places. I dunno. I was pretty excited for Joker, but I felt a little let down by the end.

But it was worth it for the art alone. My God, the art is beautiful.

Hey, I had missed the new TV spot. Just seen it, it was really good. Love Fox's line
'and yes Mr Wayne, it does come in black.'

Batman: Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, The Man Who Laughs, The Killing Joke, Batman and The Monster Men, A Lonely Place of Dying, Batman Gothic and Dark Victory.

If you want to read something that that really set the tone for what Batman is seen as today read tales of the Demon, Year One, The Dark Knight Returns and Long Halloween. Those are probably the most influential Batman stories over the years.

I just saw a Mountain Dew TDKR spot where it's Batman with the police fighting mercs. Nothing from the movie, looked like a bunch of stunt guys on a backlot.
