Overseas was already batshit insane then. Maybe not Batmanshit insane, but it was already huge. Batman just never did as well internationally.

You are the second person to say this. Are we excluding The Dark Knight in this statement? 'Cause Spider-Man 3 is the only super hero movie that has done better than it internationally.

Batman and Robin did better overseas than in the US also. Only $30 million difference for Forever. $40 million difference for Begins. Burtons two did far better in America. Overall I'd say the rest of the world has pretty well been on the Batman hype train pretty evenly with the US.

I don't know, guys. The Gotham Rogues uniform is just way too meta; it doesn't fit in the universe very well at all. Why would a city that hates Batman model their football team in his image?

This isn't Community. Nolan should start taking things a little more seriously.

I think the big indicator of it having legs is going to be the reviews. It's going to be frontloaded regardless but if the reviews tank then it should be interesting to see where it lands.

Nolan's movies all do well with critics, regardless of what many of us may think of some of them. TDKR will be no different.

The reviews will say one of the following

"A fitting end to the trilogy."

"Grim and over-long."

and

"I miss Heath Ledger."

Everyone makes fun of the writing in these movies, but one of the main goals of blockbuster films is to be endlessly quoted, is it not?
Try to quote avengers it is total cheese, inapplicable ouside the movies and requires someone like rdj to pull off.
That's the difference in writing quality

Post-TDK, Batman has become HUGE in the international market. Four years ago Nolan wasnt a Recognizable director for the avg movie goer.

It is going to do crazy international no.s but still less than harry potter DHII.

Dark Knight did worse internationally than it did domestic. All 3 Spidey movies did bigger international business than domestic. Both Batman Begins and Dark Knight did less international than domestic.

I am comparing international vs. domestic, not cumulative. This movie will still do crazy bank, but I am interested to see if this breaks the trend with Nolan Bats to actually make more international than in USA.

EDIT: Of course, Inception did crazy international compared to domestic. So the Nolan effect may be in its favor.

Batman (well TDK) did so well internationally. I watched it in Hong Kong for release and everyone fucking roared when the bat kidnapped Lau in their home territory.

I dunno, could of just been HK then...

"This movie deserves a better class of audience" - DMCzaf

"this movie. FUCK. This goddamn movie." -speeding

"OMG. Greatest movie of all time111!!! Cinematic marvel. High art." - expendable

"batman begins is still better. 7.5/10." -solo

Expendable's quote is wrong. But the others are spot on. Especially DMC and Solo.

Something just occurred to me.

Regardless of how Selina Kyle feels about Bane, how does someone go from

"You're going to wonder how you ever thought you could live so large, and leave so little for the rest of us."

to

"You don't owe these people any more. You've given them everything."

That's a pretty drastic shift in concern.

Finds out that Bruce isn't some rich douche and watches Bane beat the tar out of him.

Finds out that Bruce isn't some rich douche and watches him get beat.

I have a feeling she doesnt quite understand the implications of what Bane is going to do. She is all for seeing the rich taken down, but after seeing what the city becomes, and finding out about who Bruce really is, she has a change of heart. I am also pulling all of this out of my ass. But it sounds plausible.

Pretty much. Similar to that of Rachel, who first sees Bruce as some rich douchebag in lambo swimming with girls and buying hotels and later sees him for who he is.

Selina must be attacking his public persona but soon realizes that douchebag Bruce is just a mask that he wears, and that crime-fighting and ass-kicking Bruce is what he really is.

Well I get that. And also, she may not know Bruce Wayne is Batman when the second conversation occurs.

However, the first quote would indicate that she identifies herself as one of the downtrodden members of Gotham's society, the disregarded, desperate masses.

In the second one she's like "**** em'."

Obviously her perspective has shifted in the second conversation, not to mention she's speaking about something different.

Conversation 1 is about the corruptness of Gotham's elite, and the disparity between the many and the few.

Conversation 2 is about everything Batman's sacrificed for the city.

They really aren't all that mutually exclusive.

everytime i see that gif of the cops hat getting blown off I laugh a little because I was there the night that was filmed in LA, same night I met Mr. Nolan himself. so good.

I can see the international gross being higher on this one, but not domestic. TDK will have higher domestic than TDKR.
I don't think it's nearly as absolute as you're making it out to be. Yes, it doesn't have The Joker/Health Ledger dying factor, but there's so much going for it regardless. The audience reception for The Dark Knight (and many, many people did love the movie outside of Ledger's peformance), it's the final big blockbuster of the summer, and it's being marketed as the definitive end of Nolan's Batman. The biggest factor will be how audience feel about Rises, of course, but I have faith Nolan can deliver.

And it's an absolute lock to beat TDK's international total, and by a huge margin. Maybe not by $400m, but I don't see an international total less than $650m.

I just don't think it has as much in its favor as TDK did for boosting the domestic gross. We shall see.

Of course, Hobbit will still best it, if even by a small margin, worldwide. :)
