With stuff like this I just "hop" around from other events I'm looking forward to.

E3 is just over two weeks away! And then Prometheus the Friday after! And then Google I/O a couple weeks from them! :D

Me in front of the Universal IMAX screen. It's even bigger than it looks here (I'm well in front of it)

Was at a comic book convention during the weekend, and much to my surprise I saw someone cosplaying TDKR Bane.

Too bad he was in a wheelchair though :/

Man, I enjoyed The Avengers, but the internet is seriously making me start to loathe it. It did nothing new. Oh wow, some funny one-liners and a last act involving the destruction of a generic American city. HOW REVOLUTIONARY AND BOLD. Believe it or not, people can enjoy dark and light summer movies all the same. Fuck this shit slinging nonsense.

I hope when Avengers 3 has a deus ex butler and an emo dance number, everyone doesn't retroactively hate 1 and 2. :(

I like how after the avengers every superhero film has to be light hearted and full of optimism.

edit: I don't know what's worse of that link, the article itself or all the people in the comments agreeing with it. there's no big science to the avengers success, people wanted a movie that showcased a bunch of superheroes teaming up against one big threat for ages, plus with 5 movies building up to this and it actually being a good movie... there's not surprise it's doing so well. there's no 'america suddenly wants optimism'.

tdkr will do mad money, maybe not as much as the avengers but it'll still be successful. does that means every superhero film needs to be light hearted and 'fun' to be successful? no.

It's been 7 years since he used Fantastic Four as his soapbox against Batman Begins, but Devin is still beating this drum. Let it go, man.

It’s great seeing The Avengers taking time out of their city-destroying final battle to assist civilians and to work with the cops.
That's because the actual alien-destruction-part is being done by Thor, Stark and Banner. The rest are left with ground-duty. What else were they supposed to do?

It's the same misguided thinking that led some people to say that after TDK, everything had to be dark or gritty. They were wrong there and wrong here too.

The lesson that should be gleamed is that if you produce a well-made, entertaining popcorn movie with good word of mouth, you'll be rewarded. It doesn't have to say anything about America's mood as a country right now or any of that nonsense, especially when we haven't even seen how TDKR will fare in two months. This whole analysis feels premature.

The Watchmen tried to do something different yet it was not as well received as this 1.

Agreed except it wasn't a generic American city.

Though it was the most fake looking NYC I have seen in a while.

Avengers was great where I expected it to be really mediocre. In fact it was so good that it made me not care about some of the flaws in logic (not comic book movie but just in general).

Of course I am also biased since Batman is my favorite comic character and TDKR is my most anticipated movie of the year and possibly forever.

Am I the only one who treats the whole Avengers vs. Batman thing as apples and oranges? I mean tangerines?

The Avengers is a child's film. It's a cartoon brought to life. It's a goddamn disney film for christ's sake. You might as well compare Dark Knight to the Incredibles.

bunch of words which make no sense, have no connection and don't matter. People watched TDK for entertainment and people will watch TDKR for entertainment. People loved Empire Strikes back and Two Towers didn't they? Both Empire Strikes Back and Two Towers were in the face of tough times. ESB was during the great recession of the early 80s and Two Towers was a year post 9/11 and beginning of Iraq War. But as you also remember. The movies which followed had an ending which satisfied the viewers, pleased the viewers and ended the story. It brought a happy ending regardless of the outcome for the viewer. TDKR is in the same vein. There is a REASON it is called The Dark Knight Rises and not The Dark Knight Falls (That was TDK)

I had a dream last night that TDKR was out and immediately became without contest my favorite movie of all-time

Hopefully I'm a prophet

Except for the part in my dream where there was a scene of Bruce training JGL as the new Batman, who wore the exact same suit and everything

That's funny since The Incredibles is one of the best super hero movies made. It was what a Fantastic Four movie should have been.

People compare Dark Knight and Avengers because of their comic book origins.

Why are there idiots that think:

Batman will die

JGL is Azrael/Batman's replacement

I swear some Batfans occupy a world of fever dreams. The main heroes in superhero films never die and Azrael was a fucking joke that will never be put to celluloid. Or Nightwing. Fuck's sake. Please note this isn't directed at anyone specific in this thread at all. Just shit I'm seeing elsewhere.

Bookmarked for later ridicule.

He just doesn't like the Batman character and absolutely hates Batman fans, so he hides behind editorials like this. Then he goes to twitter and says "There is a really awful contingent of Batman fans. Not all of them, just a vocal and psychotic minority" which describes fanboys of everything in existence. He never tweeted about Avenger fans attacking that woman who gave it 3/5 stars, because that would mean there's an awful contingent of fans for other characters, can't have that.
