So whenever I played the beta with others, I joined a party with them, which is why proximity chat wasn't working right? Guess I won't be using party chat in the final game though, gotta talk a lil shit to keep it interesting! Anyone know what the range is?

Wait, is there an in game invite system with your friends? I never used it.

Jup party chat disables ingame chat. I think proximity was arround 20 meters. Not really tested it but felt like that. And there is a ingame invite system yeah. All in group managment.

You can still hear other players through proximity chat when you have the party chat, you just can't talk to them. My group and I during the beta used party chat and there were a few times where we snuck up on rogues and you could hear them say "oh shit behind us!"

But yeah, I think I might use in-game chat when the full game comes out just for kicks.

What is a proximity chat,we only used party?

When your character is standing near another player you can hear them / talk to them.

They should disable party chat for this game, imo lol assuming the game chat is actually working properly. I'm kidding obviously but it does make it an even better experience. I loved hearing people wonder where I was while I was hiding in a building ready to pop them.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything

We could hear people while we were in party chat. Idk if they could hear us, they acted like it though.

Really hard to believe, I know, and even I'm not really convinced we'll see much of difference. However I'm certain we'll see some difference, so read on below to find out why!

First of, there's a huge debate about if Global Illumination is currently in The Division. For those of you not in the know, GI is a solution to realistically light a virtual world. It's a key feature of the Snowdrop engine (which The Division uses) and is the main thing that made the E3 trailer look so realistic.

Check out the Snowdrop trailer https://youtu.be/R2NJSAvuiQ0?t=48s to see it in action.

Basically, if full GI was in The Division,

I'm pretty sure they use full GI in their latest trailers too.

However the PC version we played in the beta, although it had good lighting, it certainly wasn't the most realistic. Basically, either Global Illumination wasn't in the build we played, or it was a very toned down version.

SO! Now we're all on the same page, I've found some interesting things online to suggest that the release PC version will look better than the beta.

First of all, this little bit of pre release info about the PC version:

> Optimized graphic settings & customized GPU effects: adjust a vast variety of technology treats, from **realistic lighting**, shading, snow particles, local reflection, fog volumetric scattering, depth of field and much more…

Obviously just marketing hype right? Well Phil Savage from PC Gamer

Had this to say about the PC build he played at Ubisoft in January:

> I'm far more confident about the state of the PC version—although that confidence comes with the caveat that what I saw was in a controlled environment using Ubisoft's own machines. For Ubisoft Massive and co-PC developer Red Storm, a good PC release appears to be a matter of pride. "Massive and Red Storm have roots in PC development," says Magnus Jansen, creative director of The Division. "Some of us are PC gamers, so it’s just very natural for us to give love to the PC version."

And in another PC Gamer article

Phil Savage also had this to say:

> The environments look great, and I can confirm that the beta doesn't contain all of The Division's graphics. The preview build had many more graphics, all of which should make it into the final release. It is a lavish and horrible place, which I find appealing.

So, what kind of graphics? Well the only other things missing from the PC beta build, besides GI, were more dramatic texture changes, such as snow fully melting when on fire and building windows using cube mapped reflections. So it could just be those effects fully unlocked, as again, we see them in the official PC screenshots and recent trailers from January.

But wait, there's more!

The reason I went so HAM about Global Illumination is because Nikolay Stefanov, the Technical Lead at Ubisoft Massive, is giving a whole GDC lecture about it in March, a whole week after The Division releases. You can read about it

Here http://schedule.gdconf.com/session/global-illumination-in-tom-clancys-the-division but I've quoted the relevant part.

> The session will describe the dynamic global illumination system that Ubisoft Massive created for "Tom Clancy's The Division". **Our implementation is based on radiance transfer probes and allows real-time bounce lighting from completely dynamic light sources, both on consoles and PC**. During production, the system gives our lighting artists instant feedback and makes quick iterations possible.

> The talk will cover in-depth technical details of the system and how it integrates into our physically-based rendering pipeline. A number of solutions to common problems will be presented, such as how to handle probe bleeding in indoor areas. The session will also discuss performance and memory optimization for consoles.

So yeah, Global Illumination is definitely supposed to be in the game. So again, we probably had it in the beta but it could be toned down for performance reasons, or wasn't fully enabled.

However, we are definitely going to get more polish it seems, although honestly I'm not expecting a big difference.

So don't get too hyped!

Very Interesting.

Did anyone ever find pants in the beta? I found lots of hats, scarves, jackets, shoes, shirts, etc., but no pants.

I found one pair that I remember (maybe a second but I'm not too sure)

Jackets were what I found the most of by far...then shoes and hats...everything else was just 1 or 2 or none at all

I hope it's true.

Despite that clearly ugly ass map that made it feel like I'm playing where's waldo with missions, it is awesome to see so many things to do in The Division.

EDIT: Will there be a dev to finally solve the over saturated maps? It's great you have so much to do, but does anyone out there have a concept or idea that would make it better or streamlined or SOMETHING?

Well I like actually discovering things on my own rather than just folling lines to markers and then checking items off a list. Obviously a game needs to be designed around that. But I am getting a bit tired of every game just force feeding you everything.

I made a DivisionGAF community on PS4 if anybody wants to join it, just search for 'hydruxxo' on PSN then scroll to the bottom and send a request to join.

You can turn it off using the map. The guide line.

Been a while since I bought a game not on Steam. I want to take advantage of the Prime preorder discount. If I get the DVD, will all I need is the DVD key to activate on Steam or at least UPlay? My PC does not even have a DVD drive.

if the physical copy has a code it wouldn't be a Steam code...it would be Uplay

the only way to get a Steam code for this game is to buy on Steam

Canceled my regular pre-order and upgraded to the Gold Edition.

I'm going all out on this one.

I wish it came with something neat though. Steelbook, poster, anything really. I'm actually amazed how barebones everything is regarding physical copies, I kinda expected Ubi to go crazy with this.

If you want crazy, then you need to get the Sleeper Agent Edition.

Been a while, but I'm kinda in withdrawal from not being able to play a beta. I also did throttle myself a bit in the beta not to burn myself out, but knowing that it was really stripped down I didn't really do much in there on purpose, just had fun. Basically messed around with the guns (Caduceus, FAL, AK were really good, disappointed with the snipers but then again the R700 wasn't in it) to see what I felt Id like to go after.

Yeah I took the survey buti t did feel like lots of those questions would be more appropriate for the full game, like shit about customization and skill variety and stuff, I mean, how can I comment on skill variety when we have 4 skills and can only upgrade 1? same for balance. No, the shield is not good when everyone has an assault rifle and a heal and an upgraded pulse skill, but I don't take that to mean that any of us know anything about actual balance. /facepalm.

Oh well, took it as honestly as I could.

Yea those films are pretty awesome. I remember when they did that for Ghost Recon Future Soldier as well. I watched it like 10 times.

I was pleasantly surprised by how well made it is. Those watches - I'm super hyped for the Sleeper Agent version. Yes, I will wear the watch to work :D The watches going off to call the Agents reminded me of this...

Yeah, I'm feeling it!

Did anyone ever find pants in the beta? I found lots of hats, scarves, jackets, shoes, shirts, etc., but no pants.

I had a few pairs including slim fit jeans and tactical camouflage.

Had a few hats, a bunch of jackets but I didn't get my scarf until a couple of hours before the Beta finished.

Shoes though? I had more shoes than Imelda Marcos
