The Division Beta Thread: Make Manhattan Great Again

I'm digging this so much more than the Alpha.

Day 1... But I'm done for today. I'm going either PS4 or PC on this, so I'm excited for tomorrow to see how those fair.

It's not a game... It's a beta

pretty much from past experiences
the beta has become almost 95% of what the full game except bigger but my issues are with the map size.

this is the game .. I doubt they could add major game elements like stealth etc in a month in a half.

My concern is that random players I match with in fireteams are going to gank me in Dark Zones.

That'd really, really annoy the shit out of me.

Well its an RPG so the closest to stealth you gonna get is LOS. They've been very open about this, its not a Clancy game in the tactical sneaky way. Not at all.

And the map is much much bigger at release compared to this.

The game is pretty much meh for me right now

The armor variety is lacking
The shooting is okay
No stealth options
Collectibles galore for Xp
No civilian interaction other than pickups
All these buildings .. only a select few interiors
Minimal character creation (only face, hair) and weapon customization

Character creation is unlocked more in release, there are two tabs we can't even access right now.

But otherwise I 100% agree with you, after 2 hours I'm just bored and the game is just not that interesting except to explore. The shooting is not good at all for me personally, way to zoomed out to have that "weighty" correct feel games like Destiny / blops3 / battlefield have.

The cover is fun sometimes but annoying as fuck sometimes, its like that animated gif where two guys are shooting each other right next to each other but behind blocks. Enemy grenade spam is annoying as hell. The extraction stuff is funny, sort of a mexican standoff situation when you get a few people in the same spot.

I mean the only difference between release and beta is a lot more zones, more story missions, but mechanics wise everything is similar and there isn't some amazing new content we are going to see. I'm still buying the game at release, but gonna buy it on console, play for 2-3 weeks, and trade it in. God bless the people who buy digital or season pass, I think you are going to feel totally ripped off.

I will say exploring the subways is really fun for me, I woulda loved a single player version of this game with a real story line and perhaps a dark zone multiplayer component.

Your correct in that regard! The game will increase in content on the full release but don't expect some sort of genre defining feature to come out on release day. What your playing now is what your going to get in the full release x10. If that doesn't sound appealing to you than I suggest you step away from the game because this is clearly not a game for you.

Same thing happened to me, had to wait almost an hour to get another email saying i was "activated" and the beta was ready to download on Uplay.

yeah, got my email a few minutes ago as well, so I suppose it's as simple as redeeming it on Uplay.

I'm not home at the moment, so I hope the traffic lessens by the time I get home.

I don't think I will feel ripped off from my 30€ game that I will get 50+ hours at the least out of, all of them in co-op with one, if not multiple friends.

but to each their own taste.

also, please do tell how the game does not have "a real storyline".

As with any MMO since its not tightly scripted you get into weird situations. We can't really tell much since only one story mission is unlocked, but for example when I walked into the base of ops after saving the Doctor, on my way to go talk to her in the lab I passed by an NPC who told me that the one eyed captain is missing and asked me to go find her (I got the mission but its locked for beta). A few seconds later I talked to the doctor and the captain walks in and tells me I did a great job...

The hospital mission was extremely underwhelming as a first mission as well.

I definitely agree I won't feel ripped off from the game, but I am going in not expecting a great game just an ok game.

Looking forward to jumping in tomorrow. From what I'm reading tepid seems pretty hyperbolic. Seems like some people really like it and some are 'meh.' It looks better than I was anticipating for sure, though I was pretty skeptical from the very first reveal. But now I'm excited to try it out!

That said, the 'it's a beta' responses to criticism are cute. The game is out in 5 1/2 weeks. This is a demo but spelled BETA.

I expect some good music to be blaster from you while playing Dark Zone.
I request video.

I think it stands in regards to content locked in the beta... however, a lot def. are forgetting that modern "Betas" hell, even "Alphas" are nothing more than glorified demos most of the time. The Division's Alpha was pretty much what's here in the Beta from what everyone's saying. I'm not saying they didnt/wont take the performance and our experiences into consideration from them but the games mostly locked up being only a month-ish away from release.

I got a code from the nvidia promotion and redeemed it for the PS4 via the uplay site. But how to start pre-loading the client on my PS4?

Why can't I access the beta? I click the bet pin and it's asking "do you own this game or app?" . I've been trying all day and that's all that comes up?

I had a quick go this morning when it went live.

It looks quite deep with lots of gear slots and perks. I'm sure people will figure out the optimal combos though.

Although the game involves shooting it is very much a shooter last and all the other things first. There is no ringing retort to the gun fire and the enemy flinching looks a bit weird. They don't seem to get knocked back much.

The matchmaking and joining with friends looks pretty cool, I can see my friends moving about in the map which is a nice touch!

If you want a slick loot based co-op game to play with mates as a hobby then this looks awesome. If you want a tight campaign based cover shooter then maybe not.

It really sucks that uplay locks you in the country where you're at. I have a US PSN account but currently living in Spain and after creating my uplay account and submitting my beta code it generated a EU code. So stupid... I'm a sad gaffer now :(

My goal is to mold the darkness zone into the video for 'Good Vibrations.' I just hope I can make Marky Mark in the character creator.

Well this should be a PSN only issue cause for some reason PSN NA and EU dont use the same system.
Same for DLC. Everything got to be the same region. Weird as balls.

Not only that, on top of it, uplay creates your account assuming you are from the region from where you are creating the account. Of course this is true for 99% of the cases but for me that I'm currently abroad it sucks :(

What's different? I thought it was the same content and build as the Alpha with upped fidelity? Anyone know what exactly changed?

Figured I'd drop in and give some impressions. I'm still not sure how I feel about the gameplay, and whether or not this is a game I'd sink my time into, but there are some cool things. *I do like the intense recoil. It feels like it adds an element to the shooting and prevents holding the trigger nonstop through a firefight.

As was mentioned, the ability to change some visual settings is nice, and the game overall looks pretty good. I'm pretty impressed by how smooth everything looks.

The little details are killer. I lived in NYC for college and it's cool to see all the little NYC touches all over the place. The huge metal sheets covering the road where they had been working on something beneath, the construction smokestacks over the manholes, the city bike dispensers, Hudson Piers along the West Side Highway. That's all pretty cool. I lived on the Upper West Side, so not all of this is familiar.

I happened to be restocking after a firefight and noticed that I had to replenish 500 rounds for my main weapon and was thinking how hot my barrel would've been after shooting 500 rounds in a few minutes. About an hour later I noticed that the barrel gets red hot after shooting consistently. Sweet.

Helping "citizens in need" is also a nice touch. I'm not sure if the reward is random, but I've had two really good drops from giving out bottles of water, etc, and a couple completely worthless items.

Doesn't change the fact that there are locked options in the character creator and the obvious fact that there is going to be more armor variety in the actual game. They aren't just going to put the whole game out there as a beta. There will be restrictions and things cut that will appear in the final game. That is where these "cute" "its a beta" responses are coming from and justifiably so.
