The Expanse Season 6 - Official Trailer

Was more into the alien tech, protomolecule and all that than this Belter terrorist dude plot. But still looking forward to this.

Hopefully this season 50% of every chapter isn't Naomi crying.
I will say though, last season was some of the best HDR I've seen in a sci-fi series. All the tech and lights were fantastical, and they look to be building upon that.

I've tried multiple times to get into this series, but every time I miserly lose interest in it. Why?

I like space / warfare stuff.

Who is flying the ship? I didn't see a "not-Alex" in there.

I wonder if they had the time or inclination to wrap up the alien stuff or just stick to the books like they have been and leave the door open for a future series/film. Book 9 isn't even out yet, I don't think, so I can't imagine this will spoil whatever they have planned for that book. Though that last scene with the girl suggests some sort of conclusion different from anything in the books that I can recall.

Nankatsu Nankatsu you should try the books first. The show is wonderful but I feel like it really requires the book to fully process what is going on. This show really needs a annotated version that gives info to the new viewer.

That's not what the books are about either. The TV show is pretty close in theme and scope from the books, the authors themselves are involved in the production as co-writers and producers.
I guess, it's just not for you and that's okay.

Me, I love it. I love the Drama and the politics.

Just one? Damn, might let this percolate a bit so I can binge. This kind of heavily serialized show sucks when dripped IMHO.

Out of curiosity, is the Roci flying itself because they are just not addressing Alex or has the pilot position been replaced?

Yeah just the one ep.

Naomi is the new pilot. For now anyway. No idea if that gonna last.

I've never read the books, but my buddy has. He says the show is following the books pretty much to a tee.

Why in the world the author decided some random human is more interesting than a planet-destroying alien/machine/protomolecule is beyond me; but I definitely agree with you.

I am all over this shit this weekend.

Gonna once again throw shade on the books, the show is way, way better. Which is a rarity.

Last 3 books

How would you deal with the timeskip?
Frankly, I wouldn't even do it, or at least keep it to a shorter period and age up the actors slightly. Nothing really important other than giving the Spartans time to grow requires that skip, so just compress it.

The Cockatrice

I'm retarded?
Didnt even see the trailer let alone knew this was out, holy fuck and this is one of my favorite shows. Fuck yeah will watch it when its near the end.

I just started watching the first episode and I was very confused.

Then it dawned on me that season 5 had completely passed me by, which is odd as I remember really liking it. I guess all the delays meant it missed my radar.

2nd half of season 5 was terrible! Naomi son is a little bitch or the actor isn’t very good! That family storyline went too long! I really liked 1-4 season!

They should’ve just replaced Alex with another another actor(I do think it would’ve been hard to replace).

Will still watch and hope it’s as good as the 1-4 seasons.

After last season cliff hanger, this first episode is a slog! The son confirms he’s a little bitch! Can’t even take a punch….wtf..won’t spoil!

Really looking forwards to this but damn they did Alex dirty last season. The Inaros saga feels pretty low stakes after the first three seasons. Not sure they can wrap things up in six episodes.

According to reviews, things are still left open by the end. A shame, but with only 6 ep what else could they do.

Didn't they say in interviews they would have a somewhat open ending for possible future movies or something if someone decides to give them the chance someday?

And can't really have a definitive ending with 3 books still left to cover anyway.

Any particular reason they decided to stop here? Ratings been meh again?

Season 6?

I should check this out if it's lasted this long, have only heard great things

Starts out slow but S1 and S2 is up there with the best sci-fi I can recall watching.

First episode was pretty good.
But man the Nagata family are the most unlikable people in the galaxy.

To be fair even with a full 10 episode season it would have been hard to give a definitive and satisfying ending to the Belter plotline and the whole alien tech one.
If amazon doesn't want to renew it for more seasons I guess it's better that they finish the current storyline and leave things open instead of trying to rush some definitive ending.

The first three seasons were spectacular, but the show became kind of boring when it shifted away from the alien/protomolecule stuff and focused almost entirely on the personal stories mixed with politics (Naomi’s arc with her stupid son was especially lame). With so few episodes left it looks as if there will be no satisfying conclusion to the whole alien plot, which reminds me of the horrible way the White Walker storyline was concluded in GoT. It seems writers have a really hard time to properly conclude story- and plotlines these days.

as a reader of the books I’m glad those are around.

it is retarded they don’t have a pilot on an already limited skeleton crew.

namoi is regressing as a character and instead of being strong like she was in the first few season she is shit.

holden also made break through a and then regressed to his old self.

also the alien shit is a constant backdrop in the books and isn’t supposed to be a big bad but just something to be in the background. It’s always going to be a mystery and unsolvable. It is just showing how humans do the same shit even when given a huge opportunity to change.

I don’t even expect the books to have an answer for the Killer alien organism. .

Probably not enough hits from fucking normies ignoring fantastic sci fi. Sucks we couldn't see all the books adapted.
There is a big book plot reason why.

I want to rewatch this in HDR so bad.

The decades-long timeskip could have been a factor. Maybe they'll pick it up again in 5-10 years, seems to be a passion project of sorts for Bezos.

edit: That being said, criminally underappreciated show. Easily the best sci-fi since BSG and, unlike that show, actually seems to be sticking the landing.

So I just caught up. The sudden death of Alex really felt cheap so I looked it up right after finishing season 5. I had no idea about the sexual assault allegations. They should have recast Alex though, even just for one season.

I didn't like season 5 that much. Not really a fan of family drama. The terrorist plotline was okay.

Season 6 seems quite good so far. The aliens are actually back and unlike how I feared, they are having the characters call back to Alex's death to a degree. There really does still need to be a pilot though. The son's scenes are still boring.

Episode 3 was decent. Things feel rushed though and most of the relationship stuff is a bit of a drag.

I'm so pissed James blew the torpedo. I can't stand her son. I knew they wouldn't kill them yet but man I wanted them to.

IMO Holden now has blood on his hands for everything Inaros does from now on.
And yeah, Filip has been such a terrible addition to the show. They are obviously building towards him betraying or at least abandoning Inaros, but he is just so fucking unlikable it's hard to care.

I'll watch till the end but the show has really gone down in quality since they started focusing on the Nagata family

Why does it seem like almost every show has to go down the toilet these days?

At least Good Omens was great and didn't outstay its welcome (nor deviate from the books too much). And The Tick was good but that's gone (although it would seem that's for the better). I guess Invincible, but that really depends on if they fuck up the next season.

Maybe it's just bias but I've often found shows tend to get worse when they change networks, even when much of the production and creative team remain the same.

The first 2 seasons of Black Mirror are still the best, and it start getting gradually worse when Netflix bought it
Arrested development went from good to terrible when Netflix took over
The expanse started to decline in quality when Amazon took over
Brookly 99 went from dumb fun to boring and increasingly woke when it switched to NBC

I agree. I know Naomi has been feeling bad about fighting her people. This guy is murdering the whole planet though.

Yup.
And her kid is an annoying brat, a murderer, has been directly involved in genocide and was willing to shoot down his own mother just the last episode. I hope when he inevitably goes against his father he sacrifices himself to take him down or something, if they try to give it a "see? He's a good guy now!" twist I don't see how it could feel earned.

I've only watched the first 3 episodes this season, but man, that fight against the Pella and 2 other ships might be my favorite one to date. Alex and Bull both had some crazy engagements in prior seasons, but this one was insane. The high-G turns preceded by railgun shots, and then Bobby demanding to take control of the cannons. Then the strategy of sending a volley of PDC rounds in the direction that the Pella was dodging...it was all tense and enjoyable.

This show better get a 7th season, even if on another platform. How does the best sci-fi franchise not have a massive following? Space dogfights have never been this well thought-out, or this well-shot. The use of zoom and panning shots is amazing. The cinematography of these space battles is so much better than filling the screen with fodder and explosions. Here, every single shot has purpose, and feels important. I love this show.

Oh yeah, the Rocinante is easily my favorite sci-fi ship. I can't think of any ship that punched more above its weight than the Roci. I feel like the Roci is as much a character in this series as Going Merry and Thousand Sunny are in One Piece.
