  • (00:00–00:20) Project Begins — In November 2007, a fan developer named Mentor started creating a Half-Life 2 mod called Opposing Force 2 with a 7-member team, aiming to make a single-player sequel to Opposing Force due to long community wait times.
  • (00:20–01:27) Early Development & Hype — Concept completed by 2008; announced on ModDB with screenshots and promised features like multiplayer and a barnacle grapple tech demo slated for July 2008, though the demo was repeatedly delayed.
  • (01:49–03:02) Showcases Without Delivery — Despite promises, the tech demo never appeared; team shared assets, enemy models, screenshots, and early G-Man speech remakes, though core gameplay elements were often missing.
  • (03:25–04:10) Growth & Ambitious Plans — By early 2009, team swelled to 28 members; goals included 6–10 hours of gameplay, 14 chapters, a demo by August 2009, but the project faced an internal asset leak that complicated story rewrites.
  • (04:29–06:37) Development Turmoil — Leaks destroyed trust and forced revisions; two trailers were released in 2009 but no demos; multiplayer repeatedly delayed while team morale dropped and members quit.
  • (07:26–09:50) Partial Release — In 2011 a "stadium demo" was released with three maps and early weapons/enemies, but inconsistent visuals, mediocre AI, and poor design disappointed many expecting more.
  • (10:39–12:00) Slow Progress — Screenshots and models were shown through 2011–2012, but progress slowed; interest waned as developers became busy with other things, leading to a silent period.
  • (12:00–12:20) Official Cancellation — In June 2014 Mentor announced Opposing Force 2 was cancelled and all source files were uploaded publicly for community continuation—though none led to a full release.
  • (13:44–19:36) Opposing Force 2: Lost Attempt — A separate team revived the mod in 2018 as Opposing Force 2 Lost (with enhanced lighting/visuals), but the released version suffered confusing gameplay and poor experience, making it unenjoyable.
  • (20:20–21:32) Chaos Theory Revival — Another revival attempt began in 2023 under Opposing Force 2: Urban Chaos (later renamed Chaos Theory), showing promising assets and demo announcements, but updates have been sporadic and slow, continuing the long, troubled development saga—nearly two decades after it began.
