The Formal End to Tech TV

To me, Tallerico acts like a troll than anything. I know it's his opinion and all, but his justifications for his reviews don't really make sense to me. I mean, he actually lowered the review score for Viewtiful Joe because the name "Viewitful" was stupid. Huh?

True, sometimes his criticisms are completely juvenile. Generally though I like his his "skepticism before adoration" approach.

I had an idea for a Judgment Day parody show that I wanted to do with Leguna. The name would have been "Final Judgment Day," and it would have been the same set-up, with Leguna as a more serious Victor Lucas type host, and myself as a completely INSANE Tommy Tallarico. (Despite the fact that Leguna actually resembles Tallarico a little bit, I felt I could come off as much crazier)

The point of the show would have been to make fun of the style of their reviews; games would have little to do with it. For example, for Grand Theft Auto Vice City, "Victor" would open the segment by giving the facts about the game, saying things he liked about it, how it's awesome, 10 out of 10, etc. Then "Tommy" would go off on his typical explosive rants, starting with "ARE YOU NUTS?!?!" or "Are you FUCKING INSANE?!?!" followed by him trashing the set for no reason, then saying "You like a game where you kill people, steal their money, and run over hookers? So then you like THIS, BITCH?" and Tommy pulls out a knife, stabs Victor, steals his wallet, and runs off the set.

Another set-up would be Tommy trashing Enter The Matrix, but Victor disagrees and says the game is awesome, the best ever, "I love the square wheels on the cars," etc. This would be followed by another "ARE YOU FUCKING INSANE?!?!" outburst, but Victor says "I don't think you want to say that," and then an Agent Smith lookalike comes onto the set, clones himself onto Tommy, and says "I love this....game. You should all...buy it."

I know it sounds really dumb, but that was the whole point. ^_^;

Leguna didn't want to do it though. :( I figured it would make for a web page people want to at least check out, but he decided to start a gaming forum (no web page) instead. :P

Yes, WAS Icons. They're changing the show to this, however...

“Icons”: Icons will be the “Biography” show for the G4 viewer. The goal is to release the biographies in conjunction with major movies in 2005. The show is interested in producing shows on: Frank Miller, George Lucas, Pixar, James Bond, Stan Lee and Peter Jackson. Once the icons are set, we will be setting up interviews with their friends and associates.

UGH.

And there goes the last show I still tune into G4TTV for.

I still like X-Play and Judgment Day is the one good show G4 brought over. Once in a rare while Icons or Filter is okay. The rest, though, especially The Screen Savers, just awful. Even though the Kevin/Alex Screen Savers wasn't as good as the Leo/Patrick shows, it still wasn't toooo bad. At least there was some humor between Alex and Kevin. The Kevin P./Che-Lan Screen Savers is so painful and awkward you actually feel bad for everyone involved. The show now has all the timing and energy of a local cable access program. I feel seasick just thinking about it.

I started tuning in again for CES coverage and an interview with the creators of Tom goes to the mayor. It seems that che-lan is no longer hosting and has been replaced with sarah lane, so I think kevin rose will be back on hosting duty when he gets back.

Kevin P. isn't too bad, he likes to make fun of himself and the network a lot. PLUS, he uses year old internet slang! LOLLERSKATES

G4s goal is to become the IGN of cable television and based on the feedback I've been seeing, they are right on target.

TechTV was already sliding towards doom in my eyes once Sumi Das left Fresh Gear. It was practically inevitable at that point.

I met Sumi once at E3 and am still recovering from the experience. They should let her host Filter instead of that bimbo idiot who's on there now. Then it would be watchable, though still horrible.

So next time I watch G4, McGriddles will be everywhere?

You must have missed it when they had "Nintendo DS day". 70% of the screen was a Nintendo DS mock up, showing two screens. The top screen showed actual G4 programming, while the bottom screen showed Nintendo DS games. It was worse than the McGriddles

With nothing to do while home for the holidays, I finally got to see G4TechTV in action. Dear God. I'm still trying to see if that network actually gets ratings. Does anyone have any figures? But I guess it must; it's so mainstream its pretty sickening. The worst is, of course, what happened to Screen Savers. Instead of knowledgable people who actually provide helpful info, you have four jerk-offs who just want to look cool and offer zero insight. AICN is a good place for movie news? Thanks guys.

Nielsen ratings for G4Techtv

In prime time: 0.1 - Rank 62
Total day: 0.1 - Rank 55

Serves them right. G4TechTV is a shitty channel

It's not a very high-rated network, but then again it's only available to people who buy premium digital cable service from Comcast (and some satellites too I think). You can't really expect it to perform with more broadly available cable channels like Comedy Central or MTV.

We get it here in Bakersfield on Bright House Digital Cable. In WA, it was on Charter basic cable.

It's on DirecTV, so that's some pretty big exposure. But still, one can hardly expect it to compete with GSN. They've got Dog Eat Dog! :D

I'm not overly concerned with happens to the rest of G4, as most of the content of both G4 and TechTV's has always been crap.

This needed repeating. Screen Savers was the crown jewel of the network (fine, CFH too) whether the suits wanted it that way or not, but it pulled a wagon of shit behind it. even if G4 wasn't full of cocksuckers and instead kind Christian missionaries or something, the show still would have tanked one way or another just due to A) it wasn't in its native habitat and B) it was a holdover from ZDTV and fervent late 90s internet newbie-ism (link of the day!!!!).

I just keep hoping that all of the people from the good Tech TV shows band together and start up a new channel.

Okay, so G4 bought Tech TV to kill the "competition." Hey MORONS, WHAT COMPETITION? You couldn't have two channels, one focusing on VIDEO GAMES, the other focusing on all the tech/computer stuff? Lame.

From my understanding, G4 bought Tech for their distribution into 50 million US homes, not to kill the competition. When a new network starts it takes a long time to get distribution, I believe G4 previously was in around 7 million.

As for TSS, it's nothing like Pulse used to be. Going by the show yesterday it was about 20% game stuff (Josh Resnick was on with Mercenaries) and the rest internet culture and news from Mac World. It's more like Slashdot TV than IGN TV.

Does anyone know the story on how 'Unscrewed' ended? The host seemed all kinds of pissed during the final show, so I figure it didn't end well.

Oh, man, what a bunch of wankahs you are! Nobody watches the nether regions of cable TV anyway, so quit freaking out about it!

I just noticed that James Bond is listed. All the other line-ups for ICONS are real people (and Pixar), and then there's 007. So they're going to interview his friends and associates? That should be uh....interesting. :P

I think the frustration was in having relocated to LA to stay on the air and had them construct a new set only to turn around within a couple of months and be let go.

Yeah, I'd be pissed too if my new boss were the one's bankrolling Tommy, "I did the music in Metroid Prime, I SWEAR!" Tallarico's show.
