And Europe am cry. At least those of us who wish for an even more united Europe. Not a good day.

The United States of Europe? The European Federation? The Republic of Europeland? The European Empire? I for one thing don't fancy any of those...

So that one vote will go an incredible way in determining how Europe evolves -- so too the world, etc...? What was it about exactly? Strengthening the EU in some way, I guess...

-edit- nm, constitution. forgot all about this. reading the other thread now

It's the fourth: European Empire. If you study the euro-constitution you'll realize that EU is trying to become USA. And that's very bad. The French are smart.

So France is the only country so far to have said no? I read that the Dutch are voting NO as well next week.

Well, depends on how you look at it. They don't want to be what the USA is, but they DO want to form a confederacy of countries. The pros for the whole thing are great, but its not until you look at the cons of the EU that you start to get cold feet. The French realize, though, that until this shit gets totally ratified, they're the ones that'd be charged with upholding it--politically, militarily and economically-- with only Germany to help.

Plus, it'd forfeit the rule of law in individual countries to a higher court, which france is strongly against. You show me a frenchman who's willing to have his case tried and judged by a jury of Italians and Dutch, and you'll have done something special.
