What I meant was, alot of people(me included) highly favor great artistic talent and winning design over let's say, high resolution textures. :) (Not that FEAR and PGR3 is lacking)
I've played alot of PGR3 but I still personally choose WipEout Pure(PSP). Im not saying FEAR is a lesser choice, Im saying it's naive saying: "people listing ps2 games WTF ?".

Okay, so I'm not sure what to do here--since GAF has decided to go with a top 10 games of the year format that I neither understand nor like for ranking the Games of the Year, I'm not sure whether or not to go on with collection of data and building a database for a final count in the next week or so (since I figure the thread will die by then.)

I'll figure out later tonight, but playing favorites with a GOTY thread is uniquely annoying.

GOTY 2005: Shadow of Colossus

RE4 might be a defining factor of the generation, but where RE4's impressiveness will be shuffled away with next gen, for me SotC's overall originality, ingenuity of design, and as a significant discussion point in the 'games as art' debate will last far longer in video game history than RE4 *puts psychic crystal ball away* :)

All I can think of are the games I remember spending money on or almost spending money on. I haven't played NEARLY enough games in the last 6 months. Notice the lack of SotC and other such titles.

1.Game of the Year : Resident Evil 4 (I don't think it was the best in any individual category though. Lots of games looked better, lots sounded better and lots had more interesting gameplay. But this game did so many things so well. What a great way to start a year)
Runner-Up: Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones (my favorite game series this gen comes to a close with some of the best platforming in any game ever.)

2.Best Visuals : Project Gotham Racing 3 (jaw droppingly beautiful)
Runner-Up: Shadow of the Colossus (makes me wonder why no other company can get their games to look this good on the PS2)

3. Best Audio : Advent Rising (truly amazing game soundtrack)
Runner-Up: Condemned (by far the most immersive sound I've ever heard in a game.)

4. Best Gameplay : Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones (the platforming in this game is pure gaming sex)
Runner-Up: Lumines (pure addictive gameplay. So simple. So fun)

5. Biggest Surprise : Condemned (I knew nothing about this game until the week before the 360 launch. What a treat)
Runner-Up: Lumines (I had no clue a puzzle game could be this addictive again. Tetris who?)

6. Biggest Disappointment : GUN (not because it was a bad game, but because it had so much potential)
Runner-Up: Madden Xbox360 (what a garbage rush job. I am so glad I rented it first)

Huh? What's so confusing. Just see what [set] of two games per categories are getting the most shout-outs. Just by scanning the thread I already saw a few standouts for a category. I mean, that's what you expected when you created this, GOTY for a set of six categories, everyone (cept one or two) followed it to the bone.
