The Game Awards 2023 Player's voice results

Kinda surprised for Hogwarts Legacy not being in the top 3 or 5, by the way some people were talking about it, it deserved to be right at the top.
And surprised to see Hi Fi Rush higher than Starfield, considering we know HFR had like 3 million players in like 6 months and Starfield had 10 million in like a week.
Guess Xbox fans are betting it all on Hi Fi Rush after all.

BG3 is just fucking incredible.

I hope it sweeps, it is everything people who lament the current state of gaming ask for. And I love seeing how much love it is getting in these kinds of popularity votes despite the more niche genre.

Even allowing Hogwarts Legacy in this voting was a huge deal since the main awards all tried to bury it. Seeing it make the second round is nice, I wonder if their secret voting black box was even counting every single HL vote lol

Okay couple of things to point out.

1) Why the fuck games like Genshin are there? those games get in line every year and take the place of new games that deserve to be there, like Pikmin 4 and Dead Space
2) Its important to remember that this is Round 1, you can vote for 10 games, later the vote will be lower, so the result will be different. Some people will give up on some games, so the top 10 may shift, i expect TOTK and BG3 to stay high, not sure about the rest.
3) The Winner of this have never won GOTY at the show, but there is a first time for everything.

Cyberpunk 2077 tied with TOTK just blows my mind... CDPR seems to have a captive fanbase.
It's more like the Zelda fanbase has realized what a recycled and disappointing game TOTK is, so they will gladly let CDPR take the spot with an actual DLC that is worth the money and isn't disguised as a full game.

Hey would you look at that. hogwarts at 10. I guess it was not a conspiracy after all. Game just cant hang out with the big boys.

Same goes for Starfield. It didnt get nominated NOT because there is an xbox bias. It didnt get nominated because its not good enough for goty.

Also, this destroys alannah's argument that gotys are a popularity contest and only games with big marketing budgets get nominated. Look at all the gaas trash with millions of daily players right at the bottom. BG3 barely had any marketing until it went viral because it was a great fucking rpg. Not because of marketing dollars.
While I don't think it should have been nominated for GotY, even though it was the number one seller of the year, it should have at least been nominated in one of the various other categories. Most can agree on that, but we know why.

Well there you go, this "Xbox Tax" phrase going around is one of the most retarded things I've seen being peddled in gaming spaces. The blame goes in all directions but themselves.

What other categories would you nominate it in? Its definitely not best graphics, best narrative, best acting or best action adventure game.

maybe best adaptation but thats not a category. Any other year like 2022 or 2021 which were really weak, and it gets nominated. This year plenty of games got higher metacritic scores, some over 90 and were not nominated.

phantom liberty this high, pretty surprising. Would have picked bg3 as well for me, only game this year met my expectations.

TOTK likely won't win GOTY, which makes me very happy.

As a huge Zelda fan, no game in the past has disappointed me as much as this one.

Best Action Adventure

  • Alan Wake 2
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
It had no chance. Every year thats the one category that is jam packed with big contenders.

Weird to see all online games clumped together at bottom.

Kinda invalidates list to me, cause only a certain demographic is voting.
correct. as always, 'it all depends on who you ask.'...

so, yeah - this's the opinion of that particular group of 'players' actually interested in this thing called 'the game awards'...

Baldurs Gate 3 is the easiest GOTY pick in a LOOOOONG time and the fact this year was packed with great games........ is a testament to it greatness.

Action/Adventure, its better than Jedi Survivor, based on audience scores and this list.. Definitely Audio design and Score and Music, it did get nominated for a Grammy.

thats because the audience are idiots. star wars is leagues ahead of this game.

Score was really good and probably shouldve been nominated. if it also gets nominated at the bafta then we can say there is a conspiracy.

My sister is a huge Zelda fan, she played almost every zelda game since a A Link to the Past, including a few remakes and BotW. TotK was the first one in a long time she couldn't bring herself to keep playing.

This doesn't mean anything for Alannah's argument because she wasn't talking about the Players Voice award.

How so? For all we know Hogwarts could have been 10th in the critics vote too. We don't know anyone buried it.

You're talking only about the GOTY award itself, I would imagine? There's no way Hogwarts Legacy had worse music or art direction than some of those games which were selected for the other awards

The GOTY, art direction and music awards are all based on the critics votes I believe. I don't think we can say with any certainty that everyone who voted for other games in any of those categories intentionally did it to bury Hogwarts.

Pretty good list, I'd place Phantom Liberty above BG3 and miss Jagged Alliance 3, also would put Alan Wake 2 above Zelda. But all in all, good'un.
