The Princess Bride. Most definitely.

One of those movies that I loved as a kid, and can still get together with friends to watch nowadays.

Top 4 contenders? I would say that Willow or Legend should be taking The Princess Bride's slot.

You are out of your goddamn mind.

Princess Bride > Willow, Legend, etc.

The Princess Bride is my favorite movie from the eighties after Once Upon a Time in America. So it has to be The Princess Bride.

Oh man DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!

I came into this thread thinking Labyrinth all the way, but then I scrolled down and saw The Neverending Story and thought, "This is going to be tough!"

Then I looked to the right.

Fuck it, I cast no vote, I can't choose.

Yeah. This thread needs Willow. But Princess Bride MUST stay because it rocks. Get rid of the Neverending Story.

I don't even remember the Dark Crystal...what was that about?

Not in the Top 4.

No way. The Top 4 is chosen from a variety of methods to determine what four are the most popular of its particular genre at any one point. Sorry to tell you, but Neverending Story is more popular than Willow.

I don't even remember the Dark Crystal...what was that about?

Get out of my thread!

The Dark Crystal!

You can't fuck with the Jim Henson goodness, but I'm afraid not even nubile young Jennifer Connely boobies can compete with the Skeksis and Gelflings. The Dark Crystal is the sort of awesome movie magic that was untouched until Peter Jackson came along and put whatsisname's world to film. That hack. . . Tolkien. Yeah, that's it.

The LotR movies did a nice job of providing spiffy visuals, but The Dark Crystal handily bitchslaps that overblown pile of crap into oblivion as well. I would no doubt have a different opinion of LotR if the ending weren't so pat.

The Neverending Story was good as well. Fap points for the busty sphinx statue thingees with the laser beam eyeballs.

Now where can I get that special edition Dark Crystal DVD?

I can't wait to see The Mirrormask. Just because of the Jim Henson Creature Workshop involvement.

Now what about. . .

You tell him to get rid of the Neverending Story but not the movie you've never heard of? Leguna logic runs thick through your blood.

Princess Bride for me.
"Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father: prepare to die."

"You only think I guessed wrong - that's what's so funny. I switched glasses when your back was turned. Ha-ha, you fool. You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia", but only slightly less well known is this: "Never go in against a Sicilian, when *death* is on the line.". Hahahahahah."

I said "I don't even remember it," meaning I *SAW* it...it's just been a long time. :p Since I don't remember it, I'm not calling for it to replaced, just wanting Willow to be switched out with the ones I do know--

--Wait why the hell am I even explaining this? :lol

Willow is Lucas dookie.

I had fond memories of Willow.

Then I saw it again recently on DVD. I'm afraid the Lucas is strong in that one. So strong, that not even Val Kilmer, some 1-900-HOT-HOTT red head, and a bunch of really keen special effects can save it from ultimately being a wreck of a movie in the end.

The real fight between Neverending Story and The Princess Bride is which one has the more lame and obnoxious frame-story (Fred Savage and Gramps sure get on my nerves). Or which one has the better source material...

Willow made more at the box office than any other film on this list. "Not popular" my ass =\

:lol I haven't seen this movie in forever either, just had fond memories of it as well. I bet any of the movies (except Princess Bride!) would suck if I saw them again. :)

Perhaps he dislikes the Neverending Story and assumes that the movie he's never seen is better than the Neverending Story because he thinks the Neverending Story is bad.

The only one I haven't watched recently is The Neverending Story, but The Dark Crystal and Princess Bride have aged well.

Labyrinth has aged well, but since the tone is clearly intended for children, and has some grating non-Bowie musical numbers; it's a bit hard to swallow. Still it's not fawful. Just some of it will make you grit your teeth.

Willow on the other hand, was just kind of boring on recent viewing. Which sucks because I recall really enjoying it. It's just a pretty weak savior tale for midgets.

Box office totals do not account for all of the equation. And I never said it wasn't popular, but it just wasn't in the Top 4.

General concensus can include box office take, but it has several other variables.

Very tough category, very AWESOME category. I rank them thus:

1. Princess Bride
2. The Neverending Story
3. Labrynth
4. Dark Crystal

Willow and Legend are certainly classics that I would throw in the mix. I know there has to be more to this list, because god damn did I watch a lot of movies like this back then.

I've been trying to get somebody to watch Princess Bride for the past few months, but they just dismiss it by saying "I don't like medieval movies". Argh! It's so much more than that.

Anybody remember Krull? Not up to par with the top three, but I remember liking it.

Errr, such as? I don't think it really gets more objective than box office, unless you have DVD sales data....

Well, for example, on any given week you will likely be able to find a TV station airing the Princess Bride. Willow, not so much.

Not all the variables are objective. If you'd like to join the deciding council, which currently is made up of a grand total of 3 individuals, then you can e-mail us at:

Dark Crystal is #1. I like The Neverending story a lot too. Labyrinth is kinda shit and I haven't seen The Princess Bride recently enough to fairly judge it.

Nope, but we will circulate the nominations for the next thread to all individuals who apply.

Plus, we're giving away free t-shirts and punch (with pie!).

And for those wondering, Conan barely missed the Top 4, but I have other plans for Conan. Don't you worry. Expect Conan to come back in an upcoming thread.

I've never seen any of those movies, other than The Neverending Story, so I nominate this:

B00005MHOD.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

I suppose the movie isn't actually good, but it kicks ass just the same!

Conan's the best 80's fantasy movie. The Princess Bride is the only movie in this thread worth remembering (and I watched Neverending Story about a month ago).

This thread is useless without Willow. Its far and away better then Labyrinth.

The Princess Bride and Willow tie at 1, followed by the Dark Crystal, and then The Never Ending Story, and I refuse to acknowledge that thing with David Bowie.

The Dark Crystal, easily. It created such a unique living world, that the others movies cannot touch.

Princess Bride I feel gets too much praise. It's a good movie, but too forced. And the aforementioned frame story really stinks. However the movie wouldn't be the same without. I would say the movie would be inconcieveable without it.

Neverending Story is a bit convoluted, but still excellent, and has some great visuals, if they haven't aged so well.

I actually had the worse memories of Labyrinth. The movie is much better than I remember, and I actually enjoy it much more now. The music rocks, no matter what anyone says. Chilly down with the fire gang.

My order: The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Princess Bride, Neverending Story.
