...the hell? Space Invaders Revolution (DS) is out?

I know it's been out in Japan for a while, but I haven't even seen one damn tentative release date for the U.S ANYWHERE.

But apparently the localized game is already out here?!

Some people have even reported buying and seeing it at Wal-Mart!

I know the game isn't really that great, but it's budget priced at $20. And for something that really flew in under the radar, I might just pick it up if it may be worth something.

What the fuck.

Seriously, Bill Schwartz and his Mastiff crew really need to get themselves together.

I know they suffered a quite e bit of embarrasment from pressing the spritual successor to Space Invaders (SPACE RAIDERS) on the GC... but they should at least put themselves in front of every SKU they have on the shelves.

They dont even list it on their damn website.

Very nice folk at mastiff, but seriously.... why such a soft launch?
Why not even a mention online?

C'mon Mastiff!

Yeah the Aussie Version is just a Red/Orange Gradient that Text and 3 Crappy Low Res Screenshots. Really who needs another Space Invaders?

I saw this at Wal-Mart the other day too. I might pick it up. Is it supposed to be decent?

Decent as in maybe 5-6/10, I suppose. It's basically what you'd expect.

I hear there's some touch screen control. Does anybody know if it has to be used or can we do the traditional controls?

EDIT: http://ds.ign.com/articles/598/598810p1.html

I guess you can use the original controls (D-Pad and buttons). There are two types of gameplay. There's the Classic game with everything on the top screen and a little hub on the bottom that you can use if you so desire and then there's "New Age."

New Age has a better presentation, certain goals and missions, and has a take-off cutscene before each battle.

Eh... it's only $20. I might as well get it.

I will have no negative Mastiff talk! Technic Beat is so goddamn good it's not even funny. A shame even a community like GAF didn't give it any love :(

Mastiff did very well by pressing Technic Beat AND LaPucelle....

but seriously...

they didnt even mention they were pressing this.
not to ANYONE!

also...

the logo work?

i mean...
the type they used for REVOLUTION is the same crappy font you see on the back of a t-shirt for your local firehouse's annual chicken barbecue.

i know its a budget title Mr. Schwarz... but c'mon!

Ok, that's some incredibly bad logo work. But that being said, besides the logo, I kinda like that boxart.

as ugly as the layout of that design is...

Mastiff still takes the cake.

there are plenty of starving artists in San Francisco who would freelance a design job for one hour for 20 bucks and get clearer results than what Mastiff did.

seriously... what were they thinking with that ugly ass type and cheap ass lens flare.

its really even insulting to the intelligence of the "budget concsious" consumers of the walmart variety.

sure... these may be the folk who use that type on their redneck auto garage t-shirts... or to promote a small town karate tournament....
but they dont need it on their video games.

what the heck are you thinking Mr. Schwartz?

I've been pimping it hardcore for like 2 years (actually almost 3, now - it came out in winter 2002), dude, since its original Japanese release. :(

yeah i think that typeface is an italicized CEZANNE

anyone agree with me?

so fugly.
so not right for this.
so.... bad.

Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's worth buying. Please do yourself a service and save up money to buy the GOOD games.

BUMPDATE!

I actuallly just found myself in a walmart this last night...
Much to my suprise...

The horrible Cezanne type featured on Amazon's version of the cover art... IS NOT THERE!!!!

The pressed version features a much more clean cut disco type that at elast more reflects the type in the SPACE INVADERS logo.

Thank you Mr. Schwartz.... thank you!

Anyone have a pic?

I have to give the nod to the US version for the better boxart.

This sounds like good gaming...as long as its on the cheap. Not worth $30 though.
