That was a mouthful.
I loved these cartoons as a kid, and I love them still. Sure they're a bit altered (especially ROTK) but they do a few things better than the movies IMO. I still prefer their version of Gollum to the one in the movies. The songs are memorable (and for the most part, slightly altered versions of the poems Tolkien wrote in the books) and the animation is great for something done 30 or so years ago. The character designs are wonderful.
But don't take my word for it...
