Vince picked the wrong year to gut WWE to prepare to offload the company. AEW grabbed the brass ring and just solidified themselves as the premiere wrestling promotion in the US.

They just put on what was easily the best wrestling PPV in a decade. An amazing tag team cage match, CM Punk’s first match in 7 years, and then this:

Oh yea, and this:

Punk is happy:

I legit didn’t know people still watch this stuff. Last time I watched it Razor Ramone and Bret Hart were still in the ring.

Easily the best wrestling ppv ive seen in well over a decade. I’ve only finally just gotten a chance to watch aew in the last month or so (didn’t know About FITE tv’s international streaming of it until recently) and it’s been a joy. But that ppv was something else. So many great matches and moments. Especially the luncha bros tag match. What a show!

I stopped watching the turgid shit of WWE a good few years ago.

Sounds like Vince is going to get his much deserved comeuppance. Good stuff.

WWE has been past its prime for a decade.

Yeah but when most of your marquee names are aging out, there's not much in the way of a long-term future for the promotion.

I dunno, it just seems to me AEW was more of its own thing (for better and worse) when it started than it is now. What the industry needs is a new ECW, not WCW 2.0.

I doubt AEW will have given a lot of the incoming older talent the kind of stupid contracts WCW gave Hogan and co. They're what ultimately killed it. As long as AEW keeps bringing new talent up, and allowing them to be put over by older talent, then it should be fine. People are clearly so desperate for anything better than WWE's sanitised bullshit that I'd expect AEW to go from strength to strength.

Just look at this PPV. Yes the big draw at the event was Punk's first match in seven years, but the match brilliantly brought him back (you can tell he had fun again) and it also helped put over Darby.

The thing about Vince is, that he built wrestling and made it what it is. He would be pretty foolish to listen to what the fans want because from his viewpoint they don’t know what they want until he gives it to them. Vince wants big guys like lessner, strowman, and reigns. That is his ideal wrestler type. Strowman being let go was the biggest surprise to me of all the WWE releases.

I think AEW needs to have a plan for people and be careful about becoming too bloated with talent. WWE has to many people and though they have record profits and bad creative they are still the biggest player. AEW has to be efficient and smart with the talent. They can’t just pick up wwe former players and send them out there. They made me like mix when I didn’t care about Ambrose. They made Cody a big time player when wwe didn’t know what to do. They made Jericho build their business when wwe just used him to aggravate people.

there it is a lot of work to do, but they can’t become the thing they hate and they are at risk of that.

I only started watching recently and it's very remeniscent of good old days of the NWO/attitude era. I'm waiting for the moment the crowd throws debris in the ring. Pretty shocked Chris Jericho is still wresting at his age.

It's also good to hear "wrestler" instead of that bullshit "superstar" moniker. Also very impressed with the women's roster...

First PPV I have bought since I was a teenager and it was worth every penny. Such a emotional night, my wife didn't understand what the fuck was going on but my excitement was apparently infectious cause she was getting into the final few minutes. Perfect PPV and fuck WWE "sports entertainment".

Also Bryan Danielson's music is a banger.

The tag team cage match needs to be shown to people to convince them about AEW. The most athletic wrestlers in the game. Took what Owen Hart started and elevated the show.

I’ve been watching AEW from the start because I had a real bad case of “WWE bad”. But it’s turn to a case of “AEW bad”. They have gone from plucky indie fed to WWE lite.

The booker has made some really poor choices with their non-WWE talent like Hangman Page, MJF, Shida and the majority of the women’s division.

He requested for time off because his wife is pregnant. He'll be back and in the upper card.

Agreed, she hasn't been on TV since she lost the title. She's been winning on Dark & DE every week though.

Riho also hasn't been used on TV and as we saw tonight from the pop she got, she's still over.
His booking was off way before taking time off. The whole drinking thing was done poorly. He comes off as a sad drunk most of the time. Also who ever does the title cards makes him look bad. I know it’s an inside joke, but it looks weird to a casual fan, like myself.

I like AEW but I'm still getting weird vibes from them. They have people's win record under their names for crying out loud, like these matches aren't booked.

Kinda silly stance to have when they just put on the best wrestling show from any company in years.

the show is booked fine.

Would removing them improve anything?

Oh I know, I watched it.It was a good PPV, Just saying the company just feels indie with a bigger budget to me.

Because that's what they are. They were basically just Ring of Honor but with the Jacksonville Jaguars money when they started.

I remember, I went to one of their first PPVs when they came to town, fighter fest.I just hope they grow past this phase.

Yes but only because they're invested in the buildup, and how it was acheived. It's also very juxtaposed with the levity of the company.
the records just add more context to the buildup. Wd saw that multiple times with the build-up to this show.

I don't know, I don't like it. Still going to watch the product, even with my gripes it's leaps and bounds more entertaining than what WWE is putting out right now.

Very happy with the PPV. I'm loving the stories their doing at AEW. WWE has been rough. RKBro has been on of the few reasons to watch RAW.

WCW and the Attitude ERA were the GOAT of all time, I tuned into AEW when it made its debut on TV and watched only a few weeks, its DEFINITLEY up there with quality, the moves they do are some of the best i have ever seen, makes WWE seem like a kids wrestling match

WWE has been boring for a long time. Hell, when I turn it on I rarely pay attention to the actual wrestling.

AEW holds your attention.
