So my PS3 died (YLOD) even before I could play this game. My question is can I play CS I and II through PS TV without owning a Vita? I have PS4.

You could just contact Sony and just tell them you bought the wrong version on accident and want to switch to the Vita version.

You can play CS on PS TV.

Fortunately I didn't buy/ordered the PS3 version of the game yet. I'm just thinking about the cheapest solution to play this and the sequel.

Oh. Yeah, PS TV + physical version is the cheapest way to go and I'd seriously doubt that CS2 wouldn't work on PS TV when CS1 does.

I won't front though. That battle against the first boss is the first time I've ever felt sorry for a boss in an RPG, in like... over a decade.
The dude is clearly outmatched, and then he's down for the count... but it's not enough to finish him off cleanly while he's lying on the floor. You all have to join together and curbstomp him with the "power of friendship" (You're already demolishing this guy 4 on 1, and now it becomes 9 on 1!). Then while he's basically not a threat to anyone anymore, you lop his head off all stylishly, but rather than eliminating a threat, it looks like you're just executing him in cold blood.

That's probably not what they were going for, but I felt like it was kind of surreal given the setting and acting. The heroes are the monsters lol

In case anyone wants to do all subquests in the game, it's easier to follow the guide/roadmap. There are some very, very hidden subquests that you'll never be aware of unless you talk to every NPC every single day/evening phase.
Do they have unique dialogue during those phases? If so it's not a problem for me :p

So the only reason I haven't played Trails games is because I really dislike grids in battle systems. Should I still give this a shot? I've been wanting to play Trails in the Sky for a long time, so I sort of feel silly skipping to this, but it seems to be less grid heavy after a quick look.

I had that impression too at first but just go in ignoring the grid at first.

Its doesnt actually play like a SRPG in that sense. Its actually closer to Chrono Trigger desput being on a grid

I dunno. Its a hybrid in a lot of ways but characters dont need to be told to move then act. Movement and position actually setve much more interesting functions.

Trust me. Its an amazing combat system. It will really click the further you get in

It also may vary on what characters you have in your party on that moment. What immediately comes to mind is a quest in Cold Steel II which holds back information on a plot point the series hasn't touched upon since The 3rd but is only wholly revealed if you happen to have two particular members, one possessing the link to The 3rd and one possessing new information, in your party. On the one hand, hidden stuff like this makes it required to have a guide on your lap. On the other, however, recommending friends to "try x to get y" is nostalgic in its own way, I think.

In for vita digital sometime next year. Its going to be weird hearing the pretty great soundtrack in context - I was not expecting the game to come to the US. Glad to be wrong!

Found the LE at a local Gamestop, went for PS3. Tried to cancel my preorder on Amazon immediately but they gave me the "it's already prepared to be shipped, it's out of our hands now" spiel so I guess I've got another PS3 LE coming in about a week. :x

I don't need two so I guess I'll just send it back to them for a refund when it arrives.

...

God damn that splash screen looks good on my big ol' Sharp flat panel.

In your situation I'd probably give away the extra copy here. Spread the love!

If that's not financially feasible, I'd likely return the copy received from Amazon to Gamestop out of convenience. And maybe get more money back if you live in a territory where Amazon does not charge sales tax.

I'm surprised no one is really talking about the game, but only stories on purchasing the game.

Is no one actually playing it but collecting it instead?

I paid good money for this Dynex!

People are doing Christmas-y stuff with their family, or playing Xenoblade or Yakuza 5. Or all of the above. This is genuinely the worst time they could've picked to release the game.

I still really want to play it as soon as I can, though. It's been way too long since I've played a good JRPG.

NeoGAF is the place where people collect videogames, rather than play them.

It's a massive game and people are only getting started, only a few from the press were able to play it since last week.

I personally only talk about games a lot when I'm pretty far in. I'm still in Chapter 2, and things are still revealing themselves.

Not much to say except it's an improvement on Trails combat in quite a few ways, and there are so many little quality of life improvements that I am really happy with it so far. The story is interesting and fun so far and I still love talking to random NPCs just like I always do in these games. I actually found an NPC on campus with a very distinctive accent, and when I traveled to the countryside a little later on in the game and talked to some of the people inside a random house there, I immediately recognized the accent - and once I talked to the mom of the house, it turns out that it really was the household of that same girl.

People who are playing are too busy to play instead of posting, enjoying the prologue so far, but I can tell this game is going to be really meaty.

All valid points... I do have a backlog of nearly 1,000 games I either haven't opened or played an hour of. I'm also one of those people playing through Yakuza 5, Xenoblade Chroniclex X and Trails of Cold Steel... This literally is the worst time this game could've been released. But it's definitely a solid game so far in its early hours, if a bit slow at times.

Beat prologue.

Battles are suuuuuuuuuuuuuper snappy.

Sara's cool.

All the boys wear cool slacks.

OK, kids, we can exhibit personalities now. By this point in FC, Estelle had accused her dad of infidelity and beat up a wounded kid for being loud.

Philistines.

And in a position of authority, too! Erebonia's more fucked than I realized.

Yeah I could go for some better personalities at the point I'm at, which is still chp 2 but still. I don't see your FC example as a good one since I found FC to be boring up until about the middle of the game. The combat being a bore didn't help either.

Cant talk about what instantly gets backlogged. =(
I havnt even started SC yet due to a few other games holding me up.

Only played up until the Prologue so far, will play more later. Kinda wished I had gotten the Vita version now, the game's graphics definitely seem more Vita suited. But def looking forward to playing more.

Hey, quick question, I pre-ordered the Lionheart edition from Amazon, but as of this moment, it's still not yet shipped, which I'm attributing to them not having stock since it's now out of stock. Is there any hope for this? Amazon still hasn't communicated anything tome about it. Was wondering if anyone knows or has experienced something like this before.

I would be daunted too if I had to beat Xeno X before this. That being said, I loathe Xenoblade combat so I avoided Xeno X as well, so I went straight from beating Trails SC to beating Yakuza 5 to playing Cold Steel.

Are there audio issues with the game? Right now Rean's dialogue is not voiced while everyone else's seemingly is. This is right after the prologue.

I totally know the feeling. I might give up on Xenoblade Chronicles X and come back later.

That's a crazy schedule. I stopped at the end of Chapter 5 in Xenoblade Chronicles X and moved onto Yakuza 5 instead because it was more fun to play...but I've been sidetracked for hours with taxi driving and Virtua Fighter 2...I am still only 1/4 of the way through Yakuza 5 in the amount of time it'd take for me to beat other 10-15 hour games.Probably wasn't the smartest move for me to start Trails of Cold Steel.

So close to caving and getting this on PSN. EU copy can be my back-up. There's no chance at all of the saves being compatible with EU is there, so I'd be tied to getting the second one on US PSN too?

Just watched the videos in the OP. Holy shit, I really like the look of this. Bout to buy right now.

I'm in the middle of TiTS SC, so I'll probably hold off on starting Cold Steel until I'm finished with SC.

Nope, that's deliberate. Even with that being the case, Rean has WAY more spoken lines than anyone else in the cast, so I presume it was a decision on Falcom's end to keep voice costs down (this was their first in-house game with anywhere NEAR this amount of voice acting). Couldn't say for sure, though, but either way the exact same number of lines are voiced in the English version are voiced as in the Japanese one, and there are indeed a bunch of scenes where Rean is the only one silent (and a few where only one or two characters are voiced and the rest are silent.) It's kinda weird, but it is what it is.

Wow, great impression. I'm still on the first day after the first dungeon. So not too far in. I'm finding it way nicer to play than Trails of the Sky (I found it too slow and too wordy at the beginning couple/few hours) so I'll try to stick with it. I'm surprised about the details you mentioned. That's crazy.

Ah okay, it just seemed really strange that everyone was talking and Rean wasn't so I thought something might be up. Thanks for the answer.

These character designs look so much better in the 2D art than in their polygonal models. It's kind of strange going from SC to this when despite the large year gap in between them, SC actually looks better.

That being said, I do agree with other people in that the 3D animation in this one leaves a lot to be desired. I'm willing to give that a pass, though, since the sequel, Cold Steel II, improves a LOT on the animation front and the games before this were squashed pre-rendered chibi-esque sprites on an isometric camera - it's clear they had a bit of a rough time going from that to a full 3D environment with 3D characters for a game of this size.

Falcom also said III will be a huge jump from Cold Steel I and II graphically, so it might even be a PS4 title.

I'll believe "huge leap" if the Vita version is not included for CS3, because that limitation is far greater than what a PS3 can limit graphically. We both know that isn't the case though, Dio; I will eat the pin from my LE box if Falcom drops a Vita version for CS3.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't since Ys 8 is. Didn't they say they wanted to start moving to PS4 too?

Anyways, played the prologue last night and enjoying it. As always, the music is amazing. after hearing it so much out of context, its great to see it in game. It does feel a bit rough though, I feel like moving is a bit clunky at times, the camera is kinda weird, but its certainly not the worst and more than playable. Liking the combat, really feels like a natural evolution of the Skies games. Already having a great time just walking around and talking to NPCs.

That's something inconsistent in the game. Read will talk during a few dialogue scenes, then don't have voicework during the next. Further into the game, that'll happen more frequently, where during the same dialogue, it'll go from all characters being unvoiced, to voiced, and back to unvoiced.
