Began parting out the Snowspeeder. Looks like it will come to around $200, probably less, unless some of the pieces I'm missing turn out to be super expensive. As for the stickers, it might have to be stickerless, unless I can find a cheaper solution.

Quoting myself for naivete. Nearly all pieces acquired and total is around $280.00, including shipping charges. Some of those remaining pieces though, man, a bit pricey.

This might sound dumb but I bet I'm not the only one here who experiences this.

Let's talk about back problems, people! Whenever I'm doing long LEGO builds I always wind up with lower back pains, and I often have to take breaks to get up and walk around. I've had to abandon a couple of long all-day projects and pick them up again the next day.

Anyone else or just me? Maybe I'm just getting old. But if not I'd be interested to hear how other people situate themselves when building to mitigate this. LEGO POSTURE!

I'm 28 and relatively healthy and get this all the time. My solution is to pull the chair closer to the table (scoot up) and move the pieces closer to me. I also sometimes put a bed pillow in between my back and the chair. Taking breaks every once and a while also helps a lot.

Good luck!

Done! Don't know if I have it in me for the other four...

And, look what arrived!

I started building the VW camper van last night, and seriously, fuck stickers. The license plates, VW chrome badge, and a few other items are stickers. It's such a pain in the ass to get tiny stickers level and centered onto tiny pieces, and there's even a few pieces with other printed stuff on them anyways. Would have been nice to get printed pieces for my $120.

Still a good looking build though.

Using the Apple Tree House, Hillside House, Stephanie's Mailbox, Emma's Car, Olivia's Desk, and various of others (a motorbike and Star Wars' Imperial V-Wing Starfighter from my husband's set for his own pure amusement of course), I was able to create this mega house couple with a two vehicle garage but it can fit 3 and a flying vehicle lol. The house is nearly fully white, but unfortunately the roof still has a lot to fill in to be more aesthetic looking. I did expect this though going in with a restricted pool of lego.

If anyone have ideas to fix the roof or something, I welcome it. One of the ideas is replace one of the roofs with a proper placed helipad than having it on the garage, I've thought about that yes. But unfortunately that'd mean I need to get one of the proper large flat piece to make it as a set on it. I don't have a whole lot of those. They're used for the floors of this two storied house and the garage obviously.

Hubby and I have been bitten the LEGO bug a few months ago so badly thanks to this thread, and I thought I could contribute a bunch of pics of how awesome a random MOC can do with a few sets. I spent maybe 20 hours total in building this thing. The real fun was to figure out how to manage with the limited colored set pieces as I thought it'd be. :D

I should also point out I had a bag of little extras from a bunch of other LEGO sets we had bought. Picking from that bag is rare though thankfully.

To save room on the pics and some 56kers here, I'll direct link the further angles of the exterior and interior shots instead.

This was the initial build. The roof was fantastic looking but the interior definitely left a lot to be desired though.

So I scrapped this house for a nice interior instead along with a garage. IMHO its worth it for finding a lot of neat detailing I had in mind. :D The chair is on a single stud to enable it to rotate, so its not loose.

I'm especially in love with my blue car I've made. It looking more like a beetle bug or similar to Professor Layton's red Laytonmobile lol.

If the set isn't too big, I dump it into the lid of a comics long box and sit it on the arm of my chair. Just have to be careful not to drop any pieces down the chair itself.

I bought a folding camping table so I can sit upright in the spare room. Was previously crouched over on the floor and would get backache and pins and needles in my legs

Nice work, Philia. Think my favorite piece is the dish cupboard. Simple and brilliant looking.

As for the roof, I would suggest getting another Apple Tree House if you can swing it. You will get a ton more blue roof pieces and more small windows. It will also yield two more half plates for you and lots of other useful bricks. That set is my go to quick fix for getting lots of good pieces for buildings easily and quickly.

I get it too, although I always build on the floor, cross-legged, so I shouldn't be surprised. And don't follow my advice there because I'm sure it would result in even more back pain for you.

I do it because I don't really have a massive table and I always built my Lego sets and played with my big bins of Lego on the floor as a kid, so it just feels right. Plus my daughter likes playing around with the pieces with me and if it's already on the floor I don't have to bend down to pick up the scattered bits.

It's all good until I stand up, anyway. The five hours it took to build the fire brigade required a few breaks to walk around and stretch.

Welcome Philia - glad you are one of us (one of us).

I really enjoy seeing user-created interior furnishings, since many LEGO models are so lacking in that. Nice work on the shelving/storage units!

Now debating about getting a folding table to use at home. Just to have a big set up of stuff to keep on display. If I can find room for it that is. Or just invade the dining room table and move the sets off it when we use it to eat those two times a year we do.

Wow, huge build, nice work, if a bit blocky ;)))
keep it up :)
And welcome to the thread :)

THANK YOU GUYS! :D

I kinda wish they'd put out a minifigure set of just the Fellowship from LOTR...probably for like $30-40. Do it Lego.

So excited. The lady and I decided to take a road trip the week of July 4th, and it's gonna lead us through King of Prussia in Philadelphia. LEGO store, ahoy!! Gotta start savin' dem pennies.

Visiting the wife's grandparents in Florida this week. Plan on making a trip to the Orlando Lego store tomorrow And going broke before starting the long drive back to ct.

Planned on Death Star or SSD, but now think I will go nuts on the pick a brick wall (pray for good selection) and get Pet Shop to finish the modular line off. Maybe grab the minis as well.

They refrain from doing that for a reason, you know :p

Same reason we can't just buy an Avengers minifigure set.

I know, but a man can dream. I bought the Avengers sets because they weren't too horribly expensive and they make for decent display pieces. (Outside of the Hulk Breakout set) I just don't like that most of the LOTR sets are playsets, plus they're priced super high.

Only Moria and especially Weathertop are overpriced. But BN has Weathertop for $50 in store before coupons. That is best non discounted price.

For you, I took a better photo. :D

Thank you. Yeah, that's my favorite. Such implied detail using minimal pieces. Love when things like that happen.

I think you should get the Death Star someday. You'd really benefit from all the potential MOC pieces and I'm sure have a lot of fun with all the minifigures included!

I was planning on doing this too this weekend. Leaving my comfort zone & start going to mom & pop shops outside the state with friends, looking over everything for Lego & birthday gifts for my 1 year old godchild. So jealous of that thrift store pickup of Lego a few posts back.

I want it. Just because of the Figs and sheer number of bricks. Will see how strong my will is at the store.

Speaking of which, I begged before, but will again: anyone have a VIP 10% coupon they aren't using and could email or pm me? My catalog didn't have one.

Sorry Phonc, I didn't get one with mine, either.

Excellent job on the MOC, Philia!! You did some great details. Never saw a Mini-stereo, before.

I didn't get a coupon in mine, either. I wonder if they target people who do or do not have stores in their area and send the appropriate catalog out. Ain't no LEGO stores in Pittsburgh, thus I got no coupon. I'd love to have one when I reach Philly.

Thanks! I really love to explore the details. I want to say that Minecraft helped me a lot to hone in on the imagination of detail work for the interior. But the set pieces left over from the building just sort of lend themselves to their usefulness. :D That's why I felt compelled to do this "limited" MOC to see if I can go far with using up every piece that was available to me. It only pushed me to be more creative and more efficient I think.

Hubby's happy and thought my build was "cute" and commented that he will buy me a couple of those brick blocks similar to this one
lego-brick-box-blue.jpg
to allow me to go to "town" on the details lol.

But to be honest, I'd LOVE to do the Townhall set and build the interior from the back and complete the buildings proper.

This happens with me as well.

Which of the modulars is going out of print? My wife has given me the OK to buy R2D2, but she also said that she would help build and it the modulars if I got into those.

I believe the Fire Brigade is the oldest and most likely to go out of print next. But since everybody is buying it up because it's going out of print Lego probably has less reason to stop printing it.

They don't consider that at all. Go through the most recent mailing and you'll notice FB and GE missing. Town Hall's box doesn't even include FB - it's going VERY soon and should be purchase if you're into Modulars.

I would guess it will go OOP around the Summer releases. That's my guess, ha.

So will grand emporium survive til around christmastime?

Thinking of purchasing my first modular. What is the best set currently available that makes use of neat items (toilet/fishtank) and "interactive" features (Town Hall elevator)? It's hard to make a decision based on photographs alone. They all look so neat.

From what I've gathered Fire Brigade will be the next one discontinued. Is that correct?

Also, is there any chance that we'll see any more Dark Knight themed sets with the release of The Dark Knight Rises? I really want a tumbler.

Speaking of the fire brigade, I've got a little bag on the corner of my desk with the extra pieces from when I built it the other week.

Other than the usual suspects (one stud bits, a lever, technic connector, etc) there are at least ten of these two stud sliding pieces left:

gL0He.gif

I've gone through the instructions a couple of times since I built it but cannot see where the hell they go. I know some are for windowsills, but even the manual and box state there are 23 of those pieces in total and I know I've only used about half of that. Anyone have any idea, or am I going insane? Nothing looks wrong with the build and I never had a problem putting anything together.

One of the very few persons in this thread doing it right!
That's also probably my preferred position also, for saving my back, which people were talking about earlier--kinda sitting in a squat position with occasional shifting. I also like lying down but then my elbows start to get carpet burn. The worst is sitting cross legged or anything where my lower back is rounded. Sometimes i do it without thinking because it seems so natural, but I always regret it. But the best thing is to just get up and move around a lot.

Also Philia, that house is awesome. Finally had a chance to click through all the pics. Love all the details like the plants, armchair in an offset position from the floor studs, flower pots outside on the ledge. I like that the roof is not uniform: it looks like the houses in my neighborhood that have had various renovations so not everything matches like a cookie cutter house. It's how houses should be.
