I have a question; has anyone here tried any of the LEGO "board games"?
I just noticed there are a bloody lot of them and wondered if they were any good, or just standard dice-roll games but with LEGO...

I got the girlfriend the Lego Harry Potter Hogwarts game. It's actually pretty fun even with the base rules but the game encourages you to house rule things and I'm sure with a few tweaks even adults could really have fun with it.

Supposedly the Heroica line is like a light D&D type board game.

Had to go up to the attic today and found my tote of Lego toys. Spent a couple hours today just looking through to see what all was in there. Plan on picking up some zip lock bags tomorrow and sorting through them. Only thing I have still put together is a Slave I set my little brother got me for 2010 christmas. Rest of the pieces are from when I was younger. Probably end up picking up a sub twenty dollar set and a minifigures pack or two after work tomorrow. I had nothing planned for Tuesday until I got this tote down. The GAF MOC build sounds awesome and I would be interested.

If we are allowed to sell on here I have 6 boxes of series 6 minifigures that just arrived :)

I'm splitting them off into sets to sell and I'll sell off the spares as well

Took a day off today after busting my legs at an assault course yesterday.

Decided to build the truck & helicopter set with my 2 1/2 year old as our second piece.

he's obsessed.

This is so awesome, I need kids so I can relive legos for a while

Even as a joke, suggesting that you should have kids just so you can play with lego is sick and insane.

You get toy trains as well! We're starting with Brio and will move on to Hornby later...

Yeah he's a proper boy, Thomas trains, pixar cars and lego ate his obsessions.

I'm going for all the 3 in 1 sets, saves money for our weekly builds.

Plus as a bonus, you get to fix the wrongs of your childhood. My father swapped my scalextric for a Hornby train set, and although I liked the trains, I never really got over it. So my son gets Scalextric :)

Scalextric drift cars are witchcraft.

Nice to see Brio trains are still played with. I used to combine the two, using Lego as support for my Brio train tracks.

Also Tycho and Gabe need to learn that it isn't "Legos".

My kids, aged 3 and 6, love them so we have a bunch of them. LEGO's philosophy is to make simple games with a lot of randomness, giving young kids more of a chance against older ones and making losing something easier to deal with. So, in general, for adults, the games are a bit simple. But it's a great way to have fun with my kids with surprisingly few fist fights.

Of the ones I've played, Ninjago and Harry Potter are the most interesting. Meteor Strike is a nifty Pachinko-like game that isn't a simple roll and move type game. Upcoming, there's a Star Wars Battle For Hoth wargame that looks like it has some potental.

As for Heroica, I love it for the theme and pieces, but out of the box, the rules are too simple for adults (though credit is due for making a dungeon crawl my 6 year old can enjoy). With a few basic rule changes, it is made more bearable, but really, I see it as a toolkit for making your own D&D-like game and microscale epics.

The great thing is that most of the cheap brand alternatives to Brio are track-compatible as well, so you can mix the Brio stuff with Bigjigs, Tesco, and whatever other brands you can lay your hands on and create an awesome selection of tracks.

But not Ikea, as we discovered too late. :(

I've heard good things about some of the board-gamey board games (a friend who's very into his Euro-games has the sheep shearing one, for example). I've got Creationary, and that's kind of a different experience because it's the one that's more about playing with Lego in the framework of a game than playing a game made of Lego. We've tended to take a very free-form approach to it (no scoring, just taking turns building stuff for the others to guess) as the rules seem to be so open, and it's a great party game.

I am interested in the Roman Legionarre figure from that set. I have picked up about 10, and got 3 mechanics :/ but no Romans.

I might spring for a few aliens as well.

So nearly bought that set today, might be the one I grab next week.

Let me know how many Aliens you'll be willing to sell. :)

Has anyone else ordered from the LEGO site and experienced long delays between the placement of the order and receiving a confirmation email? I just ordered the Jedi Starfighter kit from them about an hour ago and while it's possible I'm spoiled from dealing with Newegg and Amazon almost exclusively, it seems odd that they wouldn't have sent something by now.

I would give it a little bit. They aren't AS quick as Amazon and the likes. If you don't see something within a few hours, you could probably call customer service to confirm it (or check your account on lego.com).

10220 VW camper is bang on that price and an amazing set, very intricate and looks great.

10193 medieval market village for a bit less.

10231 Shuttle expedition for £81.99

If you like any other themes like Star Wars or buildings, let us know. I'd be tempted to try the Fire Brigade modular which is £100 so a stretch, but a lovely set too. Or one of the 3-in-1 creator sets.

I was expecting the Camper Van to be more expensive!

Will definitely get it sometime soon. I like Star Wars and buildings too.

Tower Bridge on bricklink is only around £165 delivered from The Netherlands..

ooh, and the Imperial shuttle for around £200.

Over £100 is stretching it too far for me, I'm afraid.

I'm guessing I should buy from the official Lego site because the Camper Van is £100 on Amazon UK.

Model Team is discontinued though, right? It was one of my dream LEGO when I was a kid but I can't find it anymore.

Loved that line.

I got this for my birthday in the 80's.

Bought this one for 100 guilders at the time. I can;t believe I spend that much as a kid.

I bet I still have all the parts. But through the years most of the bricks got kinda chewed up. Mostly by my brother.

Just got my first LEGO set since... 1990-something (last one I bought was some Pirates one set, with a palm tree, jail and some monkeys ^_^).

The 2012 one is a DUPLO 85-pieces set for 1-1.5 year olds.

Yeah it's not really mine if you know what I'm saying :)

Damn, it feels good to be back into LEGO!

Just wait. Inoculate with DUPLO, wait a couple years, dip into LEGO, and you will remember why you bothered with children in the first place. It's the fatherhood equivalent of a religious experience.

Which DUPLO did you get? Just the basic one?

I bought this Creator set this weekend, first Lego set since I was a kid.

Do you think the brick separator is essential? I already accidentally put 2 1x3 pieces together and had to use a knife to get them apart.

It's dangerous to work down the street from the LEGO store at South Coast Plaza... I went during lunch and got the 3 new Star Wars Mini Planet sets. They are only 9.99 a piece. Will post photos once I get a break and can build them.

I think that's gona be the next set with the kid for me to do. That or the yellow plane one.

I went down the rabbit hole tonight, deep.

Lego.com brickpedia, digital designer the lot.

I'm gona need to get him some figures to play with too.

I'm in Australia to be clear, might not be worth the effort if you're overseas. I have 5 spare aliens, I'm debating whether to keep them for myself or not though :)

If you are in Australia and are interested, make an offer :)

Well, Lego-Gaf, after weeks of lurking in this thread, I finally made my first personal Lego purchase in 16 years:

The comment that this set was close to being discontinued spurred me into action. Whoever said that deserves commission from Lego.com.

I'm just happy that you ran out and bought it. :) I LOVE that set. I'm thinking about buying another one for MOC purposes.

Thanks gaf, I just got back from the Lego store. I ordered the VW Camper, and I also ended up buying 4 of the mini creator sets, the race car, fire truck, airplane, and digger. Couldn't find the dump truck though
