Damn, that set is that cheap? That looks like a fantastic set and a great price for such a nice looking set. I am used to all the amazing looking stuff being $150+

I just finished it up and it really is a nice set. It reminded me a lot of Model Team. The little details like the satellite and robotic arm are fantastic,

I bought this one a couple week ago after not playing with legos in close to probably 8 or so years. Really liked it, only wish the launchpad was a bit sturdier and better.

Yeah, the launchpad is pretty much just a stand, but the rest of the set is nice enough that I don't mind.

Spambots on GAF? Never thought I'd see the day.

They must really think it's worth getting an advert on here; I've only just got my account after several months of waiting! I assume the bots don't care if a website takes seconds or months to send them an activation link though.

On topic: Has anyone else bought any of the MUJI "LEGO Bricks and Paper" sets, with the stud sized hole punch? I only found out that they'd been released outside Japan when I randomly decided to see if there were any eBay sellers offering them or anything.

The UK MUJI site has a choice of 2 sets (one about 9.2 pence per piece (not including the paper), the other a crazy 23p per piece). The hole punch is sold separately for about a tenner and comes with a template stencil to mark holes that are proper stud widths apart. The US site looks like it has most of the sets, but I don't know what the prices are like there.

I got the punch and the 9.2ppp set ("Animals/Vehicles") and it seems pretty good. My only minor gripes are that the hole punch doesn't store the punched out circles and that you don't get any plain card (only pre-printed sheets for the included models), but I've been having a hard time finding any evidence of the sets appearing in MOCs or any fan-made designs etc so I don't know if people just don't care about it or if they don't know that it's available. Maybe it seems too childish to most AFOLs?

Here is a size comparison of the Imperial Flagship, Queen Anne's Revenge, Black Pearl and the Brickbeard's Bounty.

I7Fsx.jpg

The Flagship is much larger than the others, having a full deck above the cannons. The Flagship also has roughly 1700 pieces, compared to 1100 on the Queen Anne and 800 on the Black Pearl.

That said, I think all of these ships are great, as they each bring something different.
I was looking into building the Queen Anne's Revenge. Looks fantastic.

How does one go about getting all the parts for this thing? Plus on the flickr photos, they don't identify all the parts. I mean i get some of the basic ones, but others I wouldn't even know what to call them. But I really wanna build it.
Not to discourage you, but it's not going to be easy.

I did it though, I ordered all that's needed for that beast and will be assembling it soon. Cost me around $200 I think, and I ordered practically every part required as I want to keep the ones I already have for other models.

What you first need to do is go to the instructions pages where it lists all the parts, starting from here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/28134808@N02/5505524531/in/set-72157626089946815/

When the pages load you'll see that all the unusual parts highlight with a rectangle around them, when you hover your mouse over the picture. Hover the mouse over the rectangles to see the comments about that part, and a link to BrickLink.com which outlines what the part is and where you can buy it.

My suggestion is, order all the electric parts (motors, remote, receiver) directly from shop.lego.com, using pick-a-brick, as they are cheapest there. You might as well order as many axles, pegs and pins as you need from there as well (and a turntable part!), but most other parts you won't find there. So, compile a list of all that you need, using the provided links to bricklink, and order as much as you can from one seller. The one I managed to order tons of required parts from is this one: http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=d.robin

However, he didn't have a few important parts, most notably this one: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=64178 and some others, so I had to make two other orders from bricklink (plus one from lego.com with electric parts). It's too bad the author didn't provide an XML list of all the parts compatible with bricklink, so the site could do automatic searches for you. In any case, just familiarize yourself with bricklink and start searching there until you find a store that has the most needed parts.

Thanks, though my problem is that I don't even know what the common parts are called.
Most of the parts will be in the "Technic" sections of each Bricklink store. I don't know the official names for many parts either, I just know in which section to look for them, flip through the pages until I find something that looks exactly like what's on the picture.

For example, in the store link I posted, you'll find gears in the Technic - Gears section on the left hand side, under Parts: by Category:
All other stores are organized the same exact way.

This type of part for example, will be under Technic, Liftarm
PfNT3.png
wyvxs.png

This type of thing will be under Technic, Pin
4LCqz.gif

etc. It takes time, but that's the only way to do it with what the model's author has provided us.

Judging by the piece numbers those PotC ships don't rely on "huge plastic item" right? Still, do they float?

These parts really revolutionised Technics. Before you only had the ordinary bricks with holes AND studs. Nowadays you have all those cool compact parts that kan be used in many more ways.

This thread and the Tested one really makes me want to shell out for something like tower bridge. Unfortunately my last Lego purchase was a bit disappointing as I picked up the LEGO Star Wars ARC-170 Starfighter (8088). There are just way too many special pieces in that set for my liking.

Tower Bridge is simply one of the most fantastic models around. While being a bit pricey, it really does deliver in every possible way. Not very many special pieces, magnificent final product/display, and a CRAZY good price:piece ratio.

E: Also, my Wal-Mart has a TON of sets on sale. I haven't researched the actual vs sale price to see if it's worth it yet, but if you're in the states and looking, Wally World is a good place to start.

Wow that's awesome, where are you getting it? Everywhere I've looked online it goes for at least 1000+ dollars.

I want a Millenium Falcon but I'm probably gonna settle on the mini-fig scaled one that came out recently.

No the Lego store $140 and TARGET! $140!!! Saw it there the other day, told my family go get it!

On the QAR, the very bottom of the hull is not once large piece, but it is 7 unique pieces that form the dark brown bottom of the hull (below the gun ports), as well as higher portions of the bow and stern.

Since it is not one singular plastic shell at the bottom, it would not float.

My local Tesco got all the new City/Forest Police, Batman and the shitty Dino sets in today!

Hoping to go back on Friday to get me some

I just got a small but unexpected tax refund which is enough for the tower bridge or imperial shuttle (or two modular buildings). Hurrah!

A while ago, LEGO created official instructions to build the touring bus from LEGO Rock Band. There was no set for the model, though, so you had to build it from your existing collection. The problem was, there are a few uncommon pieces in there and a lot of orange bricks (which I certainly don't have a lot of).

For a while, I've been meaning to go through BrickLink and cobble together the pieces needed for the model, and I finally did it. It took a while to identify all of the pieces, but I finally have them all ordered. I can't wait to build this thing.

The final model probably ended up costing me about $50-60, but I'm trying not to think about that.

Wow, that's a tough decision! Fire Brigade + Grand Emporium would probably be my choice, simply because those are going out soon. But Tower Bridge <3

I'm heading to Seattle on Feb 10th and staying next door to the mall which happens to have a Lego Store (Bellevue).

I told the missus I was spending money on Lego while there! Anyone been to the store in Seattle and provide any insight? Any info on Lego stores in general?

I almost bout the Creator Log cabin set yesterday for 30 bucks but held off since I'll be going to Seattle. I was thinking about the Shuttle one, looks super cool for a good price but want to see if smaller sets would be cheap and buy like 3-5.

The picture you posted is the Collectors edition of some sort :p

Here is the one for $150
http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Millennium-Falcon-7965?p=7965

Yeah, there's multiple versions of the Millennium Falcon - set 10179 that was posted is the Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon which came out in 2007 and is now discontinued, hence the huge 4-digit price for it. It originally retailed for $499.99, has 5000+ pieces, and is almost 3 feet long. Needless to say it's a very sought-after set, hence the replies being as such. The $139.99 one that's in stores now is the 3rd version around that price point and has 1200ish pieces - much smaller than the 10179 version but still a nice big set.

Of course there are even smaller Falcons as well.

I dug out this set and I've been working on it the last couple nights:

I had to stop because I was missing the eyeballs somehow, so I emailed Lego and I'm waiting to hear back if they have any instock to get as parts. As a whole, I think I've kinda rekindled a love for Legos. I might go and buy a set this weekend.

Being a huge fan of sculptures (See my old post), I wanted to find that one. One guy on another Lego forum had one for sale, but he just stopped communication with me. :|

This thread (and my co-worker) are such bad influences! I was at downtown disney last night and apparently I get 10% off at the LEGO store with my annual pass. I bought the new X-Wing set. I really like it! I'll try to post some pics later if I can get off this conference call at work. I still need to build my mini planet sets as well...

Does anyone have this TIE Fighter?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005VPRG10/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Seems like a good cheaper set for me to start with, but still looks nice and enough pieces to keep me entertained for a night or two.

What I was really looking at was the 10212 Imperial Shuttle, but I can't justify paying that much for one toy.

That set just came out on Monday so I'd bet not many people have it yet. I'm considering getting it myself. If you read the review on Amazon it sounds like an excellent set overall. I decided to get the new X-Wing (9493) to start out with and I'm very happy with that purchase.

Oh I see. Ya, looking at this youtube review and will probably pick it up.

I've got the new TIE fighter, it's the best version they've done. Decent size, and some new staff for my Death Star :)
Cool, thanks! Does the droid fit somewhere or is it just to display on the side?

I don't think so...most of the floating sets indicate on the box or in the advertising if they do.

edit: whoops, beaten. Well, there you are.

Ahh I see, I guess it was expected because of it not having a single piece.

Only been a few time to mine, but the staff is very friendly, and prices are good (I really expected higher than list prices). Build tables, brick bins. Tons of people around the mini-fig bags feeling for a certain figure.

I'll be building the Ultimate Build Mater tonight. Only a small kit but if it's anything like the other two, it'll be a really nice build.

I'd be lying if I said I'm going to get any work done today. Just going to stare at my laptop and wait for the evening.

for UK Gaffers, Tesco have a couple of big discounts on Queen Anne's Revenge and Harry Potter's Castle. Works out at about 1/3 off (25% discount + 10% coupon).

Neither were on my radar, but both are now tempting :P

edit: bought Queen Anne's Revenge. £66 after discounts, free pick up from my local store on Friday. Its £103 on lego.com

Nipped out at lunch to pick up 8677 (Ultimate Build Mater). Dropped the missus a message to tell her I was hiding in the mancave with LEGO tonight and she said the words that I've been dying to hear:

"Can I build this one?".

Yes, my love, yes you can. Once she's hooked, I can double the LEGO budget. Sweet.

I have not rocked Lego in ages... but the last sets I was into were the OG Pirate sets.. seeing these bring back memories.. how do they compare to the old pirate line?

Oooh. Might check this out when I get home. But I'm leaving for a holiday tomorrow morning so I guess I'll just have to let the parcel bounce and sit in a warehouse till I get home.

Only ship I've ever had was the Viking ship (always wanted a Viking set as a kid so this was a must) so a pirate ship will be a nice buy.

I actually have the first Hogwarts. Found it in a TK Maxx years a go for cheap. Guess that's a little tip for the UK GAFfers here, but their Lego supply have been rather limited in recent years mind.

get it delivered to your local tesco for pickup, then give them a ring and ask them to hold it for you.

The Pirates line came back in 2009, and was a throwback to the classic pirates sets - good stuff. The ships on the far right and left were the beginning and end of that line, which was discontinued to make way for the Pirates of the Caribbean sets, which produced the two ships in the middle. The PotC sets are cool in their own way, but are much less colorful and "classic" compared to the OG pirates.

The PotC line is set to be stopped this summer, so maybe some more traditional pirates sets will be coming out after, or maybe the whole theme will be taking a break until PotC 5 is released in theatres.

Check your guys Targets, I was in there today and they had a couple of sets on clearance. They had the starwars Clone Turbo Tank marked down to $83 from $140, and some other ship that was around 40% off MSRP.

Okay, I was just starting to think about skipping the Fire Brigade, but it looks like I'm going to have to have it.

I hope you know what a lucky guy you are! ;) I can't be the only one who turned green with envy...

"aargh, where's that bloody little black squarey piece?"

"Dave, I think there's a piece missing"

"Ow, broke my nail trying to separate these two flat bits. Stupid toy"

You can but dream though :P

Okay, I was just starting to think about skipping the Fire Brigade, but it looks like I'm going to have to have it.

I'm still in two minds. I much prefer the Pet Shop. The only reason I'm even considering the Fire Brigade is due to it being discontinued soon. Seems a strange reason to buy a set if you aren't that into it.

I might buy it but not open it just yet..

Apparently they hold on to it for 14 days so I should be fine.

Now convince me why I shouldn't spend £66 on this.
