"These collectible minifigs are pretty cool looking... hmmm, it looks like Series 6 is the most recent... that cowboy is cool, ooo a gray, lady liberty! yeah, wow that butcher would go well with my city..."

16 new minifigs later, I guess I am collecting these now as well... lol.

There are some I like, but this is one of the Lego things I can't buy into. I'd rather spend my monies on sets and loose pieces I want, haha.

I'm the opposite, I'd be okay if Lego just sold me packs of nothing but Mini Figures. I'd kill if they did that with Star Wars and their other licenses.

So I spent the past 2 days breaking down all my sets and putting the pieces in bins according to color (I only have like 12 Creator sets), and oh my god my fingers are destroyed. I can't even use my thumbs right now. I had to go to the LEGO store to buy a brick separator today just cause I couldn't even grab some of the smaller parts anymore. That thing is a life saver.

Good Bye Kryton,
hello Lego GAF avatar :)

My Tantive IV has arrived at home from Amazon.com. So no extra Customs charge and I may even get back the customs deposit.... not sure how that works really as I've never ordered from Amazon.com before (UK GAF here).

I'd rather be able to just buy the minifigs I liked and be done with it. I don't like that the older series minifigs are completely gone, either. Some of the first few series had some great figs that I'd LOVE to get a hold of, but it's just not economical to do so anymore. :|

Anyone build the Star Wars ARC-170? Really love the look of that fighter/bomber and was thinking of doing it next after the Imp Shuttle. Not a fan of the current X-Wing set, and the ARC just seems so much meatier. I really hope they make a newer version of the Republic Gunship, love that design, but hate the look of all the Lego sets they have done for t.

The X-Wing is a brilliant set, should really give it a try.

I think someone was complaining about the ARC-170 earlier, but don't remember why.

I was debating the X-Wing but it just feels lacking, of course looking at the UCS version doesn't help. X-Wing current kit just seems very plain and boring looking. The ARC-170 seems a bit nicer though I think it could be a bit fragile with the way some of it is designed, can't imagine those wings not being flimsy with how large they are and big guns hanging off the ends. The only complaint I know for sure was that they used sticker as the separation between windows instead of actual lego pieces.

Swore I wasn't going to buy any LEGO this weekend.

Ended up with the Creator Lighthouse (£25 from Argos. Bargain) and I bought a friend some Star Wars space-ship or other, the Y-Wing I think. I broke my 'never apply the stickers' rule for the lighthouse otherwise the rotating light wouldn't work. Must order new sheet.

Oh well, I'm not going to buy any this week. Honest.

Its double VIP points during March on the online store and in the Lego stores themselves (and a mini tie fighter from the 5th when you spend 50$/£/€)

Do you get the mini TIE only if you spend that money, or if you buy a set for that amount? I have £50 of VIP points that I could spend if I'd get a little tie too

Its why I'm holding out on the modular buildings too - should equate to a free small set or two with vip points

Yup - I will be grabbing Grand Emporium and POSSIBLY Pet Shop/Town Hall. The VIP points will be used to get me the Shuttle Expedition for a nice discount. :) March is going to hurt the wallet...

Wait the lighthouse has stickers??

Nooooooooo!

I think its just from spending money (March's calendar)

I'm thinking Pet Shop then maybe Grand Emporium. I've been looking at the Town Hall build but I don't really like it; could always buy to sell when it goes out of print though

The allure of it for me is partially the size, but also the great MOC pieces. :) I mean, to be honest, you sort of HAVE to buy them all eventually, right? Haha

Like SmokyDave said, they are VERY functional. Stickers used to be my bane, but I somewhat recently decided that I don't mind them. The T1 Van made amazing use of stickers, and without them, the model wouldn't feel "complete" to me. I have since decided to apply all stickers to a model I build (versus one I buy and part out for MOC'ing). The only time I avoid stickers is when the sticker is to be applied to multiple pieces at once or when they're large and unwieldy, as in the Scorpion Pyramid.

That is so cool. I love rare functional pieces like that. I was just reading that the UCS Star Destroyer has magnet pieces.

I'll never see them though :(

It's the normal little round LEGO magnets they've used in other sets. They're used to secure the big plates covering most of the ISD in 4 parts. Unfortunately, after a few years some of mine began to lose effectiveness and I had the plates on the bottom sagging off. I was so sad to see that, hah =(

Trying to wrap my head around making a TARDIS MOC when I am done sorting. I want to try and get the light on top to actually work, but am short on blue pieces to make a good roof to the TARDIS.

This is a ways off, but I am knocking ideas around.

Hm hearing that makes me want to avoid shelling out the big money for even a used kit of the ISD

I've been doing the exact same thing. Still trying to figure out how to do the lettering.

Interesting about the Tie Fighter. I have the flyer from my local store for March and it doesn't have have that section on it. I wonder if that's store specific or what. Either way I want it...

Oh, I was going to cheat and make it small so I dont have to do lettering. I am also trying to find my old city pieces that said "Police" on them to use. Now call box would be tough.

I was thinking small scale TARDIS. Like big enough for a technic figure.

Here's a bunch of links (courtesy of Eurobricks) that everyone into MOC'ing and advanced techniques NEEDS to read. In particular, the second link for The Unofficial Advanced Building Techniques Manual is a must read - it explains a lot of awesome SNOT lettering and crazy useful tricks.

@wetwired, I would suggest posting these in the OP as well under a heading of MOC/Advanced Techniques or something...I really think this should be readily available to anyone who wants to push the limits of their building. :)

Eurobricks has an amazing UCS MOC of the arc, including instructions and a parts list, if you're feeling adventurous

Ohh... just when I am almost done my Metal Grudge, blricklinking for a small MOC, also bricklinking to prepare for a large MOC SHiP and am parting out the UCS Falcon on bricklink to work out how to get that in as few orders as possible this could not be worse timing.

That Arc is a delight though......

I remember finding that online before but all the others should be a good read too.

I second your statment though, it's a great doc.

Carbohydrate's thread is also crazy. Check this out:

In his thread (which is linked in my post), he explains how to build the core for it.

Is anyone interested in going to Brickworld? It's one of the bigger Lego conventions in the US, held in the Chicago suburbs every June. What I think makes it interesting is if you sign up for the whole convention, there are workshops and round-table discussions on all things Lego.

There's also just a lot of cool stuff to see, like this:

outside-lotro-lego-barad-dur.jpg

Adam Reed Tucker, the guy who designs the Architechture Lego line is a founding member of the convention, so I hope/assume that he runs some of the workshops. At the very least he'll be there.

This is held only 15 minutes from my house, so I'm going this year for sure.

I've been wanting to go for years. Looks like this will be the first year I will be able to go.

My wife is from Chicago so we can stay with the in-laws and make it a cheap trip. I don't do the hardcore MOC stuff so I wouldn't need to setup there or anything, but the workshops sound cool.

I'm in!

Where's the best place to buy individual pieces that I can pick-and-choose?

I'm looking to make a pixel art thing, so I'm going to need a lot of 1x1's of specific colors, a large baseplate and some large black pieces.

I took a look at bricklink but that shit's confusing, going to "buy by color" and searching black brings up a whole lot of things that aren't black...

There we go, I was looking in the wrong section. NVM.

i have the old arc-170 from episode 3. it's definitely one of my favorite sets, i like it much better than the X-wing. i heard the new clone wars arc-170 is even better, because its more sturdy, has actual clone pilots rather than normal clones, and i think it comes with kit fisto.
