The LEGO Thread

How did this thread suddenly explode like that? It had about 500 replies within its first 6 months and about 3500 in the last 2.

I never stepped foot in this thread until just recently. Then I found out there are a bunch of awesome new Star Wars sets and decided to jump back into Lego for the first time since I was a little kid.

~$500 later, I have 7 Star Wars sets, dozens of posts in this thread and I'm totally addicted.

While we are on the topic of collectible minifigs, I'm not sure if everyone is aware of the upcoming VIP "fan's choice" set:

Sweet, I need the Elf Archer and Evil Cyborg. Elf goes for over $12 on eBay and I just can't justify that price when I can buy a pack of 4 Mandalorian warriors for that price.

I was kind of shocked at the "Fans choice" selections as well. I would have thought several of the other choices would have won out over most of these.

What were the original choices available?

It was the first four waves I think- asked when the fourth wave was currently available.

But even then it was something vague like 'vote for your favourite minifig and see then in an exclusive set'. I voted the wave 1 Forestman thinking we'd have a tree-fortress.

Obviously nope :(

If anything, the Zombie would have been on that list. As mentioned before, the zombie pack probably nixed that.
Zombie pack?

So I'm trying to build this for my 6 yr old son (it would literally make his year):

but those sets are obviously out of print and ebay is retardedly expensive. I have many (most) of those pieces...the "canvas" canopy I can make with a heavy duty cloth-paper...what I need are the truck bed side rails, and driver seat/compartment, which I can find on brinklink...the problem I run into is volume. I need a $0.59 and 4 $0.57 pieces (unfortunately from different sellers), but I'm required to purchase $10 worth of bricks from each...believe me when I say they last thing I need is more bricks...any thoughts? any one know of a way to get the exact pieces only?

if its OOP (and you've checked that the pieces aren't used in other more current sets), then you're unlikely to find them on lego pick-a-brick online or even in the missing parts on lego.com

So three options I can think of:

- find other sellers with a lower minimum, recognising that might mean paying more for those parts

- buy the minimum $10, picking out what you consider to be valuable/saleable parts to pad out the order, then set up a little bricklink store yourself to sell them on (its free to set up)

- work around the problem. There are tons of creator sets that don't have complex cockpits like that, I don't really know why Lego went with that - maybe to keep the piece count down. And the side panels could be done with normal hinge plates with additional plates/tiles attached - if you use 1 stud high tiles, you could use two like this = to make a panel style for the side

I have a feeling that "Fan's Choice" selection was based largely on what sort of over-stock they had. It sounds shitty and non-Lego like, but I really think something of that nature played a larger role than any votes did in that selection. As such, I have no desire to grab that set.

Check your local Craigslist. I went on mine last night looking at Lego and there were a few people selling the OOP Indina Jones sets for not insane prices. You never know!

How do those with cats manage? I've got a little girl who'd probably end up swallowing pieces as soon as I walked out of the room.

Great tip, thanks! I now have another site to refresh everyday looking for a good deal on an OOP UCS Star Wars set haha

My cats don't give a shit about my legos. As soon as they smell them and realize it's just plastic and not food or catnip, they go away. The hairs can be a problem sometimes but I always Windex my table before assembling anything.

I love how this thread just suddenly exploded from a few pages to now 40.
I thank all the gaffers for bringing me back to my love of lego which I somehow forgot as the years went by. I'm building the 8070 super car and just won an ebay auction for the greatest super car of all time, the 8880.

lol - I wish I could mine to be that way. She has a habit of grabbing small items and stashing them somewhere. I was installing a new PS3 hard-drive a few weeks back and she ran off with the plastic cover for the hard-drive the minute I turned away.

I had $30 left over after dinner with friends. Stopped by a Toys R Us sale & picked up these...

Good Haul. 10 out of 13 series 3 I bought were uniques. Wish they had the previous series as well though.

After 3 days of inexplicable delays on UPS' part, my Imperial Shuttle has finally been delivered!

It's going to be a long two hours of work until I can come home.

Today's haul:
69.99 Mini Modules
1.25 Holiday Stocking (x2)
3.99 Brickly
4.99 Valentines Box

The small sets were a great value, especially the stockings at 1.25 each.

img_0304q7xu0.jpg

And I met another AFOL who picked up green 2x4's by the box. Kinda pick-a-brick with special conditions. Gave me the business card of a local group of enthusiasts. Succesful day ;)

I'd like to have the butcher, sleepyhead, roman soldier.

Crash Test Dummy sounds cool too, haven't seen it yet. However its much too much effort to go look for those three (or four)

One of the two figures I've end up with doubles of (I've only bought a few of each set), the other being the skate chick from this series.

Dudes I would totally be down to trade if y'all are interested. And since they're just minifigs they can probably be sent in a normal envelope with a letter so shipping would be stupid cheap (unless you want or they require an actual package).

I have:

Series 5
2x Lumberjack
1x Evil Dwarf
1x Zookeeper

Series 6
2x Highland Battler
1x Butcher
1x Statue of Liberty

The only one I don't want to give up is Lady Liberty but the others are fair game. The ones I'm after are:

Series 5
Lizardman

Series 6
Clockwork Robot
Skater Girl

Checked on Bricklink and I'll probably buy some of the others I want off of that (Minotaur, British Guard, Clown, maybe some of the much older ones depending on price) but the ones above are more recent so I figure they're easier to come by. Had no idea the Evil Dwarf would be so valuable though :o (it's like $5+ on Brinklink)

When I first came out of my "dark ages" I went all out and the first thing I bought was the entire first wave of indy sets, including that one, so good. I wish I had picked up the venice and plane duel sets though, only 2nd wave ones I got were the small camp and cairo market sets.

I have tons of spare skater girls, but I'm in Australia

No wedding set?

Well, I don't even know where to start. I guess this is Amazon's fault. They tried to ship it in the actual Lego box and obviously that didn't quite work out, hence the three day UPS delivery delay (after I paid for two-day shipping).

I'm pretty sure you can ask Amazon for an exchange especially with how busted up that is. Was this Amazon or a 3rd party through Amazon? That doesn't seem like something Amazon themselves would do.

It was through Amazon itself. I am getting a replacement and also asking them to overnight it and give me some sort of compensation for the grief all this has caused.

Hopefully they'll reply with, "we are also shipping you the UCS Super Star Destroyer free of charge as our sincere apology." :p

Probably plenty of pices missing aswell i'd guess.

I would contact Amazon. All my big set purchases from there came in a bigger box and the sets were usually perfect.

Will say that they really improved LEGO packaging with the SSD. Inside the box are 3 large boxes to hold the bags (and one more to hold the instruction book). The Imperial Shuttle is just bags in the box and with that many bags, the box is not strong enough to take it, not surprised it fell apart on it's own.

That's good. Their customer service department has always been great for me when it comes to returns. I had an issue with a DSLR I ordered around Christmas and they overnighted me a replacement.

so it looks like Lego cancelled my order for UCS millennium falcon parts. They never sent me an invoice and the charge never made it past pending in my bank account. Now it's vanished and they never even sent an email notifying me.

I would have been finished buying parts with that package. Pretty shitty.

Call them. They have great customer service. A friend of mine was missing an entire bag from his Hogwarts Castle and LEGO shipped him a new one with no hassle.

I hope Lego never pairs with Nintendo because I'd go broke.

Really nice PC setup, dude. Kinda reminds me of my own:

Let us know how it pans out!
Of course!

Another Grudge representing.

I've changed a few parts in both type and colour and awaiting a lost (by Royal Mail) BL order to finish off the turret and correct the colour on some other parts I used from stock.

Overall very happy with it but I refuse to calculate the overall cost.......
