So Bakkuma has brought up an interesting discussion point in his posting of those kick ass pictures.

Technic or System?

Personally, as amazing as Technic is, I can't get into it in terms of set buying. The functionality of all the stuff you can create is mind blowing, but I feel like MOC'ing with Technic is just far too difficult for me to grasp. Cranes, trucks, moving creations...All with Power Functions? I mean, it's awesome! But I feel like the System creations offer more expression in terms of an artistic sense.

Does anyone here prefer the Technic line? I've noticed almost zero posts on sets and creations from that line!

Nicoga3000 was it you that was searching for the Robie House? Either way it's on sale right now on amazon!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050COGZI/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I'll fire you a PM in a moment about your question - watch for it! And I was hunting for it at one point, yeah. I haven't dipped on it yet, but I'm definitely considering. $170 isn't bad for it, especially given the history of those Architecture sets. I'm waiting until March to buy any more Lego (tomorrow woooo), so I'm going to really have to decide which sets I want to buy. Between GE, Shuttle Expedition, Pet Shop, Town Hall, and this...Oh lord. -_-

Also, TheBez asked me about Fallingwater. Without going into the details I sent him, I wanted to post this to anyone who appreciates Wright's work:

This is a minifig scale MOC consisting of over 15000 bricks...Obviously Lego could NEVER release a set like this, but as much as I praise Fallingwater as being the best Architecture set available, this design really does capture the magic better than anything around!

Oh...oh my....

Dudes I would totally be down to trade if y'all are interested. And since they're just minifigs they can probably be sent in a normal envelope with a letter so shipping would be stupid cheap (unless you want or they require an actual package).

I have:

Series 5
2x Lumberjack
1x Evil Dwarf
1x Zookeeper

Series 6
2x Highland Battler
1x Butcher
1x Statue of Liberty

The only one I don't want to give up is Lady Liberty but the others are fair game. The ones I'm after are:

Series 5
Lizardman

Series 6
Clockwork Robot
Skater Girl

Checked on Bricklink and I'll probably buy some of the others I want off of that (Minotaur, British Guard, Clown, maybe some of the much older ones depending on price) but the ones above are more recent so I figure they're easier to come by. Had no idea the Evil Dwarf would be so valuable though :o (it's like $5+ on Brinklink)

I actually have the Royal Guard if you want to trade. I kind of hate the blind minifigures since there's only ever 2 or 3 figures I ever want from each series but I end up buying them anyway (not that I've bought very many). I actually have the lizard man but like that one enough to keep it heh.

Anyway so I've got these ones:
Royal Guard
Gangster
Genie (not a fan of this one at all heh)
Graduate

Thought I had bought a couple of the series 6 but I guess only 1 plus 4 from series 5. The only ones I was really interested in series 6 are the Bandit and the Robot but I've already given up on the blind bags :p

I'd be up for doing a Royal Guard for Highland Battler trade.

Just built Slave I, and that thing is amazing! I love it! The missile compartments and the semi automatic canon, and most especially the rotating cockpit. Super neat, and I highly recommend.

So I'm trying to build this for my 6 yr old son (it would literally make his year):

7622_Indy_Truck_Stunt.jpg

but those sets are obviously out of print and ebay is retardedly expensive. I have many (most) of those pieces...the "canvas" canopy I can make with a heavy duty cloth-paper...what I need are the truck bed side rails, and driver seat/compartment, which I can find on brinklink...the problem I run into is volume. I need a $0.59 and 4 $0.57 pieces (unfortunately from different sellers), but I'm required to purchase $10 worth of bricks from each...believe me when I say they last thing I need is more bricks...any thoughts? any one know of a way to get the exact pieces only?

The truck bed rails are the same pieces as the flaps on the wings of the Slave-1 if that helps.

That Amazon box is crazy. I've been a Prime member for about 3 years, probably getting 1-2 things a week on average of all shapes and sizes and never had a single problem with a package. They've not put my item in a separate box either.

Also, don't forget everyone...tomorrow is March and you know what that means!

They just slap a label on your LEGO box and send it? I'd be ticked, especially with the USC sets that have very good resale potential. And like I mentioned before, the Imperial Shuttle isn't very well packaged by LEGO to begin with, I can't imagine shipping without another box, and am glad I apparently got fortunate that Amazon sent mine in a separate box.

Woops I meant they've NEVER not put an item of mine in a separate box. Everything I've ever ordered came nicely in a separate box. There we go!

Just placed a nice order for my double points on Lego.com. Hopefully will be able to place another before the double points are up

Somehow the international shipping on Amazon for the Tower Bridge to Australia is only $25, so I'm ordering this tonight when I get paid

Co2Uz.jpg

Can't wait for it to arrive!

You should also buy a couple super hero minifigs, and have them fight on top of the bridge.

There's a toy store that is 95% LEGO up near my gf's house, they have a shit tonne of mini figures that you can buy, I'm talking hundreds.

Might see if I can find a Batman and Superman there.

I like those minifigs a lot. Whish I could buy them without the shitty buildings.

So when are they coming out? I think I do want Gandalfs arrival.

All the sets we know about are out in June, then apparently there is another wave in December to coincide with The Hobbit.

Finally finished the UCS Batmobile. Took much longer than expected since the online instructions were really hard to read.

Here's the finished set:

Size comparison with a DS3. This thing is huge!

I tried buying a pet shop set from amazon the other day and it said shipping wasn't available in Australia

Noooooooooo! I just read that my local LEGO shop is organizing an AFOL shopping "day" next Saturday.
15% off and the Mini-TIE-Fighter for purchases over 55 €. And a special AFOL surprise.
And doesn't the double VIP points special start today?
Damn, I should have waited with my purchases. Any ideas what i should get for around 65-70 €?

Yes it started today, I got double VIP points for my order.

Where are you? Might check with my local UK store, although there isn't anything I'm desperate for
(spent over £800 last month though - 15% off and double VIP would have been sweeet)

wonder how flexible their returns are? I've only built the GE so far, still have tower bridge, imperial shuttle, pet shop and fire brigade unopened. Double vip points and discount could almost pay for the town hall

The concept of 'AFOL' freaks me out. We don't have AFOVG or anything. Just seems like a strange thing to explicitly mention.

Germany, Munich. I think the Mini TIE-fighter would otherwise be an UK-exclusive, no? So I kinda HAVE to get it...

Oh, and I can't return the stuff I bought yesterday, everything opened already :(
Although the thought has crossed my mind...

The mini TIE Fighter is also available here in Switzerland, just saw the ad in the LEGO online store, so I guess it's a Europe only thing.

I'm liking the Red.

Thanks. Red always makes things better in my book but wanted to keep a good amount of the metal look too.

I was never into Technic way back when and the only other set I have done (before the Grudge) was the alternate build of this;

ChcvZ.png

That was with my 9 year old nephew and he did about 10% as he got bored (loved playing with it though).

Doing the Grudge though has me thinking, big MOC's (SHiP's at least) need a techinc frame so getting some experience will be good. That's the best way the two systems can come together with the technc on the inisde.

Any customs charge? I ordered from Amazon.com and had to pay a deposit at the same time as ordering but the package didn't look to have been charged so hoping to get that back. Think it was about $30.

I'm hoping they do this here in the UK, I have the 6th of March booked off work to go and get some points. It's going to be a big month for me (I'm not even counting how much I have spent since getting back in after Xmas).

On my list for double points is the SSD, VW Camper and to expand my Technic parts stock the 8070 Supercar.

I do, yeah. I posted my finished 9392 & 9395 here. I'm going to grab the 8880 to go with my 8865 and I'll snap 'em when they're finished.

It's really interesting to see how Technic has evolved. I hadn't bought any sets for years and pretty much everything is different nowadays. Girders lost their studs, cogs became more varied and more complicated and everything just fits together better nowadays.

Town Hall is actually a pretty good offer for once, 200$ for 2766 pieces.

Pretty good price in Australia too, the pet shop's local RRP is $270 and the Town Hall is $250, our strong dollar is finally showing some benefits, even if we are paying $50 more than the US RRP and when dollar is stronger.

It depends on the seller. In this case it was Amazon direct, and they normally ship to Aus!

Just ordered it then, also picked these up after work

I really, really like the helicopter, such a cool design.

Yeah I'm surprised/glad we've managed to get this far through the thread without the term being used much, it almost says "LEGO is for kids but we like it too!" when let's face it; we all know LEGO is for all ages ;)

Also I love Technic but not sure If I prefer it, do have a bitchin' lorry with a crane arm on the back. Can't find the model as it is a bit old now but it's one of those that uses a compressed air system to move the parts with little switches and levers, messy build with all the tubes but a whole lot of fun.

Does anyone here ever feel the minifigs outside the packets to be sure they don't get multiples? every time I'm at the series bins, I am there for like half an hour, feeling for new figs I don't have while other people there just grab randomly & pay at the counter.

Yes.

/edit

Even end up chatting to store clerks most of the time while doing it, as quite a few put the box on the front desk.

Almost always get a "oh sure, some other dude was here the other day feeling them too!" reaction when I do it, lol.

Think of the potential... A Lego Zelda board game that takes place in a dungeon...

Minifig versions of Pit, Samus, Link, Toad... A rideable Yoshi with room for a Mario minifig... Man. That would be fun.

That would be so unhealthy for my wallet, its not even funny. If there were Zelda Lego Sets I'd have to buy a Forest Temple, A Water Temple, all small sets, etc etc.

But God it would be awesome
