Metal Grudge beauty shots incoming!

I didn't have all the parts in right colors, so I improvised a bit. When I saw how much red elements I had, I figured I could mix it up with some green and yellow to make it look more punkish. Then the idea came to put a 'hairstyle' on top, to complete that kind of image. I have in the meantime ordered panels in gray colors to use instead, but this look has really grown on me now. Maybe I'll just replace the black side panels on the cannon piece with gray ones. Black ones give it some kind of empty look there.

So I would like your input on a sneak peek of my moc project.
any ideas how to give it a little extra kick?
and also keep the deco on top of the bottom slopes on the balcony or not? imho it looks shit because I can only add studs to one side of the holder.
Left or right pillar decoration?

And a quick question concerning LDD, is there an easy way to see a complete partslist?
and is there an easy way of changing the color of a selection rather than recoloring each part individually?

When people resell these monster sets, are they resorting the pieces or something? If they come separated out in numbered bags, it's gotta be impossible to get them right in the tear down, right?
I've just parted out two of my large technic sets. Its impossible to put them in original bags as the instructions only show overall piece counts

but i bagged pieces in logical groupings so it will be easy for buyers to check all pieces are present and sort them

but it will vary. Bought a venator from ebay and that just had all pieces randomly thrown into a few bags.

Some great changes there. Like the double gears on the axles and the yellow beams are good too.

I'm still looking for my bionicle turret side parts. My order was lost in the post and now no one in the UK has them in gray. I was thinking about black but having seen it will just have to wait. Or modify it.....

Doesn't it make it more difficult for Lego if the Cuusoo builds are from a license? Seems like they would disallow them for that reason.

The site mentions that it's not an issue and that they will try to get the license. Which is pretty cool.

I was trying to find where on the website i read it but I can't seem to track it down.

Basically they're fine with it and their terms say something along the lines of "don't worry about it if it's a 3rd party IP, we will handle all the licensing agreements"

Basically it's another hurdle that might possibly prevent a creation from becoming a real set even if it does reach 10000 votes, IP holders might ask for too much money or the LEGO company decides the price for the IP compared to the potential sales isn't worth it and just decide not to continue.

the problem with cuusoo is that it almost requires an outside source to aggregate enough votes. the site isn't that active on its own. Eg minecraft can garner 10k votes in the blink of an eye but only through people posting about it outside of cuusoo.

Also, there are too many tiny MOCs with little thought put into them other than 'it looks roughly like xx license' and too many massive MOCs which are gorgeous but simply unrealistic to expect Lego to produce. That sandcrawler is a good example - 10,000 pieces for a relatively non-iconic SW vehicle?

What will end up happening to most of these is that Lego will just take the idea and rework it into something practical. the Western modular set is the closest I've seen to a directly implementable idea on there.

You're right. Personally, I'm hoping the guy who built the Sandcrawler gives out or sells the blueprints. I think it will be more fun sourcing the parts and building it over a period of time. Much cheaper too.

Yeah it was blatantly obvious that the minecraft community got that set through, the other 2 sets (the Japanese sub and satellite) got through back when only took 1000 votes to pass submission. Same thing is happening with the apple store lego set recently added, it's already at 1300 votes after 6 days, my batmobile only has 500 votes after a month.

The apple store will pass 10000 votes, but it will be interesting to see if it gets lisensed, it could go either way, apple may flat out deny it or they could roll with it.

The ones I've done are fairly small, a modular building no bigger than the others, some robots and IP based small vehicle.

Yeah, I didn't vote for the Sandcrawler because it would be ridiculously expensive. I bet many voters put in a way too low amount of what they would pay for it.

I did vote for the Western Town because that's actually realistic if split into 5 sets.

I also voted for a Macross Valkyrie, although I realize the license might be impossible to get. But maybe the toy license is not as messy as the anime license.

I would buy that western set in a hearbeat but yeah the sandcrawler is just ridiculous and impracticle for LEGO to actually sell in the state it's at on there.

Also I keep seeing some really shitty things like the "Dark Bucket" or whatever it's called, it's just a bucket of fucking Storm Troopers, seems like a really crappy one even if you do want to recreate the Emporer's arrival on the Death Star or something.

Will say I'm not really a fan of that apple store either, something about the outside of it I'm not a fan of...

EDIT:

I was watching thinking, "Nah he's not gonna actually destroy these, right?"
I sat in pure shock for like a minute :|

If the Apple Store gets enough support, I do think LEGO is going to rework it a lot to up the quality. Probably reduce the number of minifigs as well.

they might make it a generic tech store, but it doesn't really fit in either their town or modular style right now. Modular is mostly older architecture (although it might be nice to see something more modern, I guess the older stuff allows them to pack more detail in)

The Sandcrawler can easily be re-worked into a smaller model. The final interpretation doesn't have to be identical.

It's been a while since Lego had a Western theme, maybe too long. A glaring omission, perhaps.

I think Apple will roll with a Lego set for two reasons: (1) It will strength their cult-like following; (2) It will further immortalize Steve Jobs.

For the canadians, indigo.ca/chapters is having a 20-25% all lego sale. Some of the items aren't available online, but check the store stock. The Chapters near me had 9 X-wings in stock (8 now). I walked out with the X-Wing, Snow trooper Battle Pack and 2 Series 6 collectible minifigs.

Only have phone camera on me.

Probably gonna go back and for more minifigs.

Holy crap. I had no idea chapters sold lego . This is awesome! Thankyou!

This is what's important to remember - Lego even states this in their terms on the site. If you like a model shown, support it for the model and not for the potential price! :)

the feck - they made Prince of Persia Lego sets? Were they any good?

They were...Meh. There was one set that had a lot of specialized pieces, but it also had a lot of clear pieces with a light brick. That was a cool one (I bought it at a Marshall's for like, $15). The bigger castle set was neat, too - but none of them ever seemed worth spending full price on to me.

I'm lieu of spending any money, since I could probably blow a thousand dollars on Lego sets in an instant (yet have nowhere to put them), I just browse those MOC websites and Amazon looking at stuff I'd like to buy. Managed to restrain myself. Found out my mom has kept all my instruction books and Lego pieces at the house though, so if I feel the need I know there's a Skull's Eye Schooner, Galactic Mediator, and one of the old electronic train sets waiting for me. =D

So Lego has renewed the Star Wars contract for 10 more years...and with most of the main ships already released as UCS sets, where can they go from here?

The way I see it, they can go in two directions: reach deeper into the prequels and expanded universe and release lesser-known ships, or they can re-release some of the fan favorite UCS ships like the Falcon, ISD etc.

What do you guys think? I know re-releasing past UCS sets is something Lego would probably never do, as it'd piss off collectors, but it's also ridiculous to have these amazing sets only available for a couple years before skyrocketing into these silly price ranges because they're out of print.

Yeah, the black really doesn't look so good there. In my mind it was a good replacement when I was ordering it, but it almost looks like there's just a gaping hole there if you just glance over it.

Do something based around the Rogue Squadron and Tie Fighter games. I want to see more ships. Ships everywhere.

But would they even sell much in the mass market? Sure, dudes like you and me fucking loved Rogue Squadron, but the vast majority of Lego Star Wars fans don't care about building AT-PTs and stuff.

I think that part of the license renewal involves allowing them to keep the rights to some of their older sets. Maybe? I have no idea...

As for where they can go, I imagine they can still expand on some of the current universe, release things they haven't previously been able to, or (like you suggested) start re-releasing some sets. But I imagine re-releases would be more redesigned and reimagined.

I wouldn't mind a little of both. That motorized sandcrawler on Cuusoo (scaled down to a ~3000pc set) would be really sweet. I wouldn't mind seeing a UCS AT-ST too. Or a UCS Medical Frigate or Calamari cruiser. A few new ones coupled with re-released but improved past sets would be nice. For example, a new UCS Falcon but with a detailed interior for lego minis (more like what the new Falcon set had) would be great.

I think this is the win/win scenario, if Lego wants to keep folks interested in the Star Wars line.

I imagine a new UCS-type line, with LED elements on the back of the ships, better SNOT techniques, more pieces etc. This is what I'm hoping for.

Not that I wouldn't love building Dash Rendar's Outrider...

There are still plenty of ships that need the UCS treatment from the original trilogy. Also, I don't think any prequel or expanded universe stuff would sell as well if they made an UCS of them. Just look at them trying to clear out the Obi Wan Starfighter.

After a few new ships (medical frigate please!), I think we will get completely redesigned UCS sets of old favorites. I think a Star Destroyer will be first on the list, just for them to make a sturdier one that does not use magnets. And this year's super popular (on GAF at least) new X-Wing model shows just how much room for improvement there was over older versions.

Perhaps for UCS we could get a really awesome Cloud City model.

Cloud_City.jpg

aww - Who cares what they think! =P

I kind of agree. But all they need to do is use a different colored piece or just replace that rare piece with an only slightly different version and throw in some new mini figures to keep collectors happy.

You could make so many great individual sets from Cloud City. Make an awesome catwalk area for Luke and Vader's duel. Or a really super detailed Carbonite freezing chamber.

Has there been a good model of the Cloud Cars?

Not to my knowledge. And you're right - they could almost do a whole Cloud City line. I wouldn't put it past them (if they decided to revisit that theme), especially given how remarkable some of the more recent sets have been.

I think with the whole Star Wars 3D thing starting up, they'll be releasing sets that are themed off of the current film in line. There was one location in the new Trilogy that struck me as a GREAT idea for a Lego set. It was that weird building that it always rained at...I don't remember what it was, but it was a really cool location that I think Lego could do some great work with.

A Kamino set would be neat, but also kind of boring. Of course, you could make a set of building the landing platform and have it to scale for the Slave I set out there to land on.

But if there was one location that could have an entire line based around it and have so many different styled sets, it is Cloud City. Unless they want to make a new modular building line and have you built either Coruscant or Mos Eisley.

Kamino? That was one of the best-looking levels in the Lego Star Wars video game.

I don't buy prequel sets, though.
