Any guesses as to when Lego will open preorders for R2-D2?

And will it be available on Amazon? shop.lego.com shipping prices are ridiculous.

The UCS stuff is generally made widely available and will be around for a while.

I thought they said the R2 set would be Lego exclusive. Basically, if you want it for MSRP, wait for Lego to do free shipping.

I am part way through my Imperial Shuttle Time Lapse video session. I have to take a break for the phone to recharge (and me as well). I aim to finish tonight. I have the main body and top fin done after a couple of hours. Just the nose and wings to go now.

That's what confused me. I've found out they say all UCS sets are "direct," but that is just bullshit that confuses people.

What they really mean is that you won't find it at Target, but you will find it at Target.com, Amazon etc.

Awesome, the mini AT-ST I got off ebay for like $6 showed up! Fun little thing.

I got the AT-AT one coming in the next few days as well.

Exclusive for a while. Town Hall is still Lego exclusive. It is only on Amazon because of resellers and it is marked up over MSRP.

Used to love Lego when I was little, so recently I built the Lego Technic Supercar. :3

I've always wanted it but was never able to afford it when I was younger haha.

I was very annoyed that I couldn't get any of the friends stuff for TRU's sale. LAME. I was forced to pick up another fishing boat and a dino set.

I then proceeded to Target and purchased the City Park Cafe just to spite them.

For you town collectors it's a great little set, and it's got all kinds of kitchen accessories to mess with- even a hand mixer!

What I think is cool about the Friends line is I've seen my son incorporating pieces into his sets, and it makes a nice middle ground for him and his sister to play with. When he plays alone, it's all guns, explosions, and fighting- be it with castles, police, robots, aliens, or ninja.

Now they're building places to go to and vehicles for her Friends figures. It's pretty nice.

I have seen her arm those ladies to the teeth with all kinds of weaponry though. Not sure what she's planning...

What are the product numbers for those?

The AT-AT is 20018 and runs a bit more than the AT-ST, cheapest I could get it anywhere was $12 shipped, and I saw several going for $20+. The AT-ST is 30054 and runs about half as much or so, I got it for $6. and saw a bunch in that price range, you shouldn't be paying more than $6-8 shipped for that one.

Just bought one of the Lego Marvel sets, the Wolverine Copter one. I'm basically paying $20 for a Deadpool mini-fig.

I'm okay with this.

That looks awesome. If I had the shelf-space, I'd buy that ASAP.

Also, do you guys have any problems get polybag legos? For the past while now I've been hitting up my local Walmart, TRU and Target at least once or twice a week, and aside from finding a single Star Wars poly at Target once, and my TRU having a million of the Anakin podracer polys I haven't seen a single one Star Wars or otherwise. I've been trying to find the new STAP poly since it looks awesome, but apparently no retailer (including amazon) seems to sell them directly online, so I'd be stuck paying at least $8 or more off ebay or even more from third party sellers on Amazon. Do I just have shitty luck in my area or what?

Also related, but why the fuck did no one tell me there's a sweet new Desert Skiff coming out this August. A small 213 piece set for $24.99 that comes with Lando, Luke, some other guy, and Boba Fett getting eaten by a Sarlacc mouth? Fuck yes!

Dear Lego-GAF: I have always wanted to build a Gundam with Legos. Is this a very hard thing to accomplish? Every model I've ever seen online looks super detailed and hard to make.

Yeah it's pretty big. About 1:10 scale I think. The doors, hood, and rear spoiler are all motorized as well. I've seen people convert it into an RC car which I might attempt at some point.

I actually don't have room for it in my room either so it's in our guest bedroom haha.

Such a great kit.

Probably put the big one together next weekend. Can't wait.

Little one was fun, bit repetitive on the sides, but interior and design is clever. As a small side not, the instructions sucked, and were worse than other sets when it comes to black/dark grey brick colors.

Dude. DUDE.

How much did the UCS Falcon cost you?

$1700. New, sealed, and still has the LEGO shipping box. All in all i think I got a pretty good deal when you see sealed ones going for near $2000 or more on ebay.

yeah, good deal. I paid like $900 putting together mine through 30 orders on bricklink, but you got the 100% complete set. You can easily sell it for more down the road, and it's going to suck when I read a shitty pdf instead of a giant ass spiral bound instruction book while building it.

$1700 is a great deal for the Falcon. I go through Bricklink for all my OOP purchases as well - much more knowledgable and reasonable sellers.

Post some comparison pics with the regular Falcon once you have the monster built.

so jelly about the UCS Falcon. I'd be tempted to bricklink it at some point, but I think I'll probably hold out to see if they do something similarly crazy now that they have the license for another 10 years, even if it's not the Falcon but something else. I'd be willing to pay over retail, but even at $900+ to bricklink it I dunno man. That's still incredible though.

Also I'll probably post the pics tomorrow, but we just built both of the Pirates ships, both were totally incredible, my wife was literally ecstatic building the bigger one so good times.

Finished the Imperial Shuttle build. The time lapse went freaky during a few parts. One part the lighting bloomed way out for a bit. Then at the end it got out of focus. No way in hell I am redoing it all though.

I am waiting for the iPhone to finish encoding the video now and will upload soon.

There are some issues in the video, such as the light blowing out randomly at one interval, and then out of focus at the end, but here is my Imperial Shuttle build from this afternoon. I think it took about 5 or so hours. I didnt really time it too well.

http://youtu.be/0AG4IrG5eaE

The video is 24fps, but I am thinking of slowing it down to 15fps just to see more detail. I used Frameographer for iOS, which was a really nice program and simple to use. I shot at one frame every 5 seconds for this one, until the end when the shuttle is on the stand, it was 1 frame every single second.

Awesome, now I think I want Frameographer. I know my Timelapse Pro app lets me lock Focus and White Balance, can you do the same in Frameographer? If so that will fix the problem you had with this video. I always make sure to lock those before I start.

When I built mine I stopped for the night after the body, but I skipped ahead and built the stand.

I dont see any white balance controls. It has the tap to focus that the normal camera app has, but I never noticed it was out of focus until I was done with that part of the video. It was in focus as I set it, but i dont know why it went out of focus. I must have grazed the screen as I stepped away.

Kitties! For about an hour one of them was pacing around my legs. She almost spent a chunk of the build on my lap.

When I built mine I stopped for the night after the body, but I skipped ahead and built the stand.

First time I built it I did the body then fin, then went to sleep. I did the nose, wings and stand the next night. This time I had the pieces sorted and organized, and I was doing it a second time so I knew what to expect. I also had a larger work area.

I did take several breaks during the build. Especially to recharge the phone and to get some food to recharge me.

When I watch their demo video I see at the bottom it says AF/AE lock, did your app say that? If not there must be a way to lock it.

Just messed with it a sec. If you hold your finger on the screen to focus, it will then lock. Nice to know for next time.

Okay cool, glad you figured it out. I make sure to do that on all my projects before I start snapping otherwise weird stuff happens, as you saw.

Neophyte mistake. I will know next time I do a mega build.

Maybe I will disassemble the modulars next and rebuild those in time lapse. And try and build the second one like a boss...with it attached to the modular before it!

Or for extra crazy, attempt to build two modulars, connected, and at the same time. Man, just planning something like that sounds like a nightmare.

Oh man those are some crazy ideas, but I love it. I will definitely record one when I build my Imperial Shuttle, I just need to make some time.

To me, the key for taping a build is to organize. Having the pieces sorted makes it go smoother. That way half the video is not me digging around for one piece. It still happens (I dumped all the flat (no studs) pieces in one bin), but it is nearly invisible on the video.

But the idea of building two modulars simultaneously would be VERY hard and VERY time consuming. That would be a multiday project for sure.
